Black Diamond Equipment, a leading global climbing, mountain sports and freeride ski brand, is hosting the 2nd Annual Salt Lake Climbers Alliance Fundraiser Thursday night, June 23. The event will take place in front of BD’s SLC headquarters, in the parking lot, otherwise know as the Black Diamond Courtyard, at 2084 East & 3900 South.

“After the success of last year’s SLCA event, we can now call this an annual fundraiser,” explains Colleen Nipkow, Marketing Manager for Black Diamond. “It brings Salt Lake’s vibrant climbing community together to benefit a great cause and provides the SLCA with exposure to new members.”

The Salt Lake Climbers’ Alliance is a 501c(3) non-profit organization. Created to promote climbing opportunities, the SLCA preserves local climbing access and encourages stewardship of the environment. Located within minutes of Salt Lake City, the Wasatch Mountains are a climber’s paradise. These mountains host an incredible variety of climbing terrain, from long, multi-pitch routes in alpine settings to a lifetime of bouldering. Unknown to most climbers however, is the patchwork of private and public lands that make up the boundaries of the Wasatch. From private property to wilderness, this variety of land ownership is almost as diverse as the rock types themselves. In the past, infrequent use of many areas kept access problems to a minimum. These days, pressure on the Wasatch canyons is at an all-time high, not only from climbers, but also from a large pool of user-groups.

The event will run from 6-10pm and will include an evening full of food, drinks, raffles and music to benefit the SLCA. Additionally, there will be poster signings by Black Diamond athletes Alex Honnold, Kate Rutherford and Sonnie Trotter. The fundraiser will be held outdoors, rain or shine. All children under the age of 21 must be accompanied by an adult and please no dogs! Tickets are currently being sold at both the BD retail store and I.M.E. for $30. After June 18 tickets will retail for $35.

Associated sponsors include: Desert Edge Brewery, The Front Climbing Club, IME, La Sportiva, Liberty Mountain, Maxim Ropes, Metolius, Momentum Climbing Gym, Mountainworks, REI, Rockreation, Sterling Ropes and Utah Mountain Adventures. Please join us in celebrating the 2nd Annual SLCA Fundraiser!
