So I started a new job this week, and all the walls around my office are covered in some weird rock mosaic... pretty damn tempting in the typical workday.

I'll save the chalk from the walls and arrange it neatly in lines all over my desk

does it take gear, or will it require bolts?

Grid bolt it. If you get caught tell them you're on the Christmas committee and it's hangers for decorations.

Does Santa bolt on rappel or ground-up?

Check out that chimney on the right side of that buttress. That roof at the top of the chimney looks gnarly. It will so go. If it were me I wouldn't be here talking about doing it I would be talking about already having done it. Get on that sucker before someone else ticks it.

Just in case this isn't a troll, check this stuff out carefully before you climb it: often it's a facade of rocks which are cut flat on the back, stuck about 1/4" into concrete, and liable to come off at the least provocation.

Sure would be a shame to get busted because your body was found at the bottom of your rad proj, dude!

People get really pissy when you climb stuff like that. One evening during a youth function I free-climbed a bell tower at the church we were at. Once on the top I rigged a webbing anchor and a pull-down single line rappel. I had endorsement from the youth director (a fellow climber) but the management was not thrilled at all. It helped alot that they didn't find out until my feet were safely back on the ground.

Picture of the tower. I climbed the back face, with help from the left face visible in the picture.

Looks fun, but be careful...maybe start with some traverse problems and stay low to the ground.

Theguy is right about the possible weakness of this wall. You should be able to see just how thick the stonework is by looking at the outside corner joints. Even if the stone veneer is thick there is no way of telling how often or how securely it is connected to the structure behind it.

Have fun...Be safe

Get on there and record first ascent..then you get to name the route! (I suggest "Dina's Last Paycheck")

There's a building where I work that I want to climb so badly... It was built in 1890-ish? It has a slightly slabby/rocky face that in parts is about 30 feet (9-10 meters) tall. I did pick up a night shift once and snuck over there after dark and climbed a few meters ina couple spots...way fun! I have access to the roof and it's awefully tempting to set some anchors during the day and toprope that sucker after dark. There's soo many routes possible, they should throw some ropes and open a climbing gym. From 5.8 to 5.11, I'd say. Aretes, face, open books... Maybe I'll wander over there and get a pic...

since none of these RC n00bs are willing to tell you where to set the trad anchor, I'll just draw it for you. use 3/8 x 3" with fixe . use 3 bolt on pitch I anchor cause rocks looks little loose.

yaa, call USNAVY to bring his k-mart drill and drill it for you

I think he may be right about the three bolt in this instance.

[edited to add:] Of course, I'm an American climber.

I got the FA on the facade of the local Longhorn Steakhouse. My wife was furious, but it's a mixed marriage - she doesn't climb.

I just thunk of this...

I should get bonus points for having to drive 350 miles each way to the nearest crag. So that hair raising 5.5 I led last month should go in the old log book as 5.7 or 5.8?
