I usually winc at "uh-ohs" and "oh shit" but for my last climb I think the phrase that took the cake for what you don't want to hear would be... "Have you seen my friend I came here with? He said he was going to go free-solo a route and I haven't seen him in a while..." We did find him btw

This was just something I saw at the gym, but it was pretty funny... A guy tied into rope and proceeded to climb. When he was about 25 ft up, his belayer goes "Oh shit! I'm using the wrong rope!!!" The climber frantically grabs on and looks down (like this-> ) just to see his belayer on the right rope and laughing his head off.

Whoa! This could end up being quite funny: As I was reading through the toher thread linked in here, I came across this post by dynoduck:
In reply to: climber is half way up the climb: Climber: Where do i go from here? Belayer: Up! That very well could ahve been me  (the belayer I mean) Dynoduck is from ontario, wehre I usually climb, but that's his only post since june 30th of this year. I'd love to find out if it WAS actually me he was quoting  It happened like this...I was pretty much forced into taking my friends idiot girlfriend and her friend with us up to Mt. Kelso on the niagara escarpment. She was (is) a complete moron, woudln't listen to a damn thing I said, and I really didn't want her or her friend to be climbing because they were being complete immature asshats and comprmising the safety of our entire party. I just got absolutely fed up with her and thats where the "up" came from. We were climbing just left of jolly roger, and man I'd love to know if dynoduck was in the party on jolly roger at the time.

Last weekend my friend and I were at Maple Canyon. I was going for an onsight of a nice little 11c. About 2 bolts from the top, I hear My belayer- "Oh, S**T!!! Ummmm.... Landon, you better come down Me "Why? What? (Getting a bit scared) My belayer- "You just better come down!" I get down to the bottom. It turns out that he had taken a leak a few minutes before, and not done up his harness afterward. Not only had he not doubled back, he hadn't even done up the buckle, it was the his legloops lowering me down  And it ruined my onsight too. I got back up and redpointed it though. I can't believe I even let him belay me again

The worst thing I've heard and it was directed to me was... " SLACK!!! SLACK!!! " I was belaying, my partner was out of sight and I had to take him off belay to give him ALL the slack I had  . He was at the end off his rope. The pitch was a rope stretcher and he barely made the belay. That was NOT on my agenda for that day. I hope I never have to hear that again!!!

The worst thing to hear while climbing is, "Check it out, I read yet another thread on 'The Worst Thing to Hear While Climbing' on Rockclimbing.com..." If anyone else brings up what to do if you find a route of quick draws... so help me I will beat you in the head with your own computer. Actually the Sister comment ("...She was a beast and bed and only 17")being quoted was mine, but I got inspiration for it from someone else months before. I looked through to try and find who originally said it, but can't. If it was originally you let me know, because it is still the funniest thing I've ever read at this site.

Several years ago my son tackled his first lead on a little sport route in Garden of the Gods. When he made it to the top of the route he yelled..... "What should I do now?" He wasn't kidding and I couldn't see the anchors from my position. That was fun..!!

In reply to: If anyone else brings up what to do if you find a route of quick draws... so help me I will beat you in the head with your own computer. May as well throw in camalots vs the world, shoes, friggin ropes (three or four this week, and it's only two days old), trad racks, "which is the best [insert carabiner/quickdraw/cam/shoe/boxer shorts/toenail clippers/hear gel].... P.s....I was climbing the other day and there was this route with shiny new bolts and lotsa real nice quickdraws. I debated whether or not to booty them, what should I have done?

this was actually on a house remodel job i'm doing with a friend,(we put a skylight in) the pitch of the roof is steep, and the shingles are those old wood slippery things...(as he drives up to the curb in his dodge) "john i cut a hole in my roof and i'm too scared to get up there and fix it. then later that day, after we had set up a rope up to his roof....oh shit john...you better come off belay....so i slide on my butt down through the sky light...john, why doesn't this look right? he didn't clip the figure 8 through the carabiner :O then with another friend, his first lead, getting up to the chains at the top of the route, "oh shit, what do i do now?"

When someone is belaying their buddy on a gri-gri and the leader is halfway up the route and the belayer says, "uh oh dude your the hand!" If you don't get it look at the diagram on the side of the gri-gri.

dan, if you were leading trad and not having to lower you are very lucky, and you should always tie a knot at the end of your belay end so it doesnt whip through the ATC when lowering or during a fall, it happens, read the climbing article on sonnie trotter at VRG. 80 footer and decked. Maybe you should take me along on some of your trips?
