Well as of now i am an illegal alien in the lovely land of the US of A, so am headed up to Canada with a 12mth working visa, with my destination being Canmore/Banff for the winter, but the trip will start with Nova scotia. I catch the ferry to NS ont he 19th, i will be staying around Halifax and Trenton till the 27th, and then head over to Newfoundland, St Johns, for a week, and then up to Quebec/Blanc Sablon via the ferry, and from there i will hitch hike my way across to canmore. YEAH BABY! what an adventure! Besides NS and NL, i have friends in Montreal, Kingston, TOronto, Sudbury and Winnipeg. so will definitely be in those areas. wouldn't mind spending a couple days around quebec city. None of these friends climb, so i would really appreciate it if there were some people out there that would take me under there wing and show me some of the fantastic rock around the country. PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE :D I have a good trad rack to offer, and in a pinch would use my doubles, but really want to keep them pristine until the ice season. PM or Post would be swell! cheers, sal.

I used to live in NS, still know a lot of people there. It sounds like you're into route climbing, and I'm afraid that I've seen mostly boulders on this website. Send me a PM on what sort of stuff you're interested in doing and I can try to put you in contact with some folk that can hook you up. The Climb Nova Scotia BB is down :? but you may be able to contact some people from Teth's website: www.novascotiaclimb.com.

If you want to come to Edmonton I can show you around. I frequently go to Jasper, Canmore, and Banf. I want to ice climb more this year and I know some sweet places. I met two guys form OZ on a house boat trip and became pretty good friends with them. They were great guys but they just went home. Cheers

Wow, that sound's like an adventure. You'll have to let me know how the hitch-hiking from Blanc Sablon goes. Are you going to hitch to Cartwright and then grab the ferry to Happy Valley-Goose Bay or take various boats down the coast? I'm in Calgary with daytimes and most weekends free to climb. Let me know when you reach Alberta, I'll be glad to head out for a climb with you. I also spend a bit of time in Medicine Hat (for work). I'll potentially be in Montreal in November (first week or two). If you are there then we can hook up, if not...then in Alberta. Have an awesome trip. Halfstep

I am stoked to get into a bit more - did a couple weeks of mucking around in the adirondacks this past January - i just have to start liking the cold a bit more! :? and as for the hitchhiking - i don't have a plan whatsoever - thats the beauty of it - but i do appreciate any tips anyone has to offer!!

Well to be honest - i am a bit of a coldie (WHen you haven't had a winter for 4 years and the avg temp of your winters was 12 degree C you don't really have to wonder why!) but i am going to give it my best shot! And if anyone in Canmore/Banff has any friends of friends that are decent people and renting out accomodation for cheap - dont forget that you (kinda) know someone who would be great! ! !

Have you considered a stop in Bon Echo? http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=38209 Quite unique climbing and arguably the best multi-pitch in Ontario. It's located half-way between Ottawa and Toronto. I see that you're coming through Ottawa - I may be available to show you around our locals crags. George.

Hope it is still warm enough there to climb some rock, and if not, hope the ice gets good quick! I am pretty new to ice - but eager to get into it! woo hoo - something else to buy gear for (but just wishing had someone elses credit card  !)

hey i think the plan is for me, scallywag, and jumpingrock to go climbing at one of the gyms on wednesday night. anyone else is certainly welcome to join us too i'd say. i had suggested TCA since it's closer to my house and I just like the atmosphere there better (it's generally a lot less crowded than oasis), but if it's better for others to go to oasis then i'm game for there instead. i'm certified for belaying at all the downtown gyms and to lead/lead-belay at oasis, so it really matters not to me where we go. fawkes - is there a reason you'd prefer oasis (membership or something) or is it just your local hangout gym? if you want to come on wednesday we can probably go there if you'd rather -ian

So i have another spanner for the worx of us all getting together and meeting :( I don't think i can get up and back from Hamilton tomorrow night to go climbing. I was going to be in toronto for the day so it was going to be sweet - but now that is switched until Friday (so yes Ian - i think 5pm should be fine now) so it would be a very costly (and long) night just to pull some plastic, coming from Hamilton. So no go. Would have been great to meet you Jess, but i guess atleast i will still see the others Friday when we head to Lions Head. Sweet.

I live in Thunder Bay, Ontario. You'll have to pass through here to go out West. If you're coming through between Oct 9-17, maybe we could figure out a day, there's several areas here that are pretty fun. You're a pretty damn good climber, so I suspect I wouldn't be able to keep up with you. Anyways, I realize long trips are pretty intense, so I will offer you a cold beverage or 2, if Thunder Bay is a spot you would like to stop in. If you check the routes, I spend my time at Silver harbor (because the climb's are short, it's like a sport leading training area) or the Bluffs (because it's a 5 minute drive from my house) but I'd be willing to hit Orient Bay, Mount Helens or Climber's Cliffs. Andrew I'm not usually a hostel, because I don't usually want to expose my family to 'people I've met on the Internet'.

So i made it to Canmore! woo hoo! i am now actually in Banff - looking for a job and a place to live. There seems to be more prospects here. so if anyone wants to hook up for some climbing let me know. I am staying at the Alpine Club in Canmore. Would like to atleast get some indoor climbing in one night soon. cheers, sal. Andrew - cheers for the offer, but i decieded to fly from toronto - was worried about how long i was taking to travel and wasting my work visa, so will probably reverse the rest of the trip sometime next year. Thankyou very much, and i will let you know if i am ever in the area.

Welcome to Alberta, You're just in time for the weather to start turn and the snow to fly (forecast for this weekend). However, the weekend is a long ways away and anything can happen. I'm in Calgary, but head out west fairly frequently. Let me know if you want to get together (availability is most day times until 4 and every other weekend) Enjoy the Rockies Halfstep

Hey, I'm looking at a possibility of flying into Calgary and heading to Banff/Canmore for a weekend of ice climbing sometime around the 1st half of December. I have a buddy who is a pilot for Air Canada so can we say cheap airtix? :D He is currently trekking in Patagonia so it will be another week before I find out. Then we would need somewhere to stay. He may have somewhere in Canmore or there is the ACC clubhouse but free would be better :D ..... hey free is good. Just because I have a semblance of a job now doesn't mean I can stop dirtbagging. See you again soon, hopefully.

In reply to: Of course you can come stay! My place is pretty small, but we'll figure it out. I can always ask John if you can crash with him as well. that would be AWESOME!!!! although the ice is forming pretty slow here, but should be OK by mid december. keep me posted. sal. Plans are on the way for a quick jaunt arriving late Wednesday 8th Dec and departing late Saturday 11th but no tickets booked yet. Will you or John have room for two people? I hope you will be able to get some time off to climb with us. Maybe you and John should close the store and just go climbing with us. I may also have some other buddies in the area between then and Christmas if you need climbing partners. Send me an e-mail if you want.

Hi Sally, I want to climb ice or alpine from Dec. 20 to Jan 3. Are you free? I search someone who can climb every day. It will be a pleasure to meet you.

Joss - i work 5 days a week right now, but would love to get out and climb with you at some point - send me a PM and we'll figure something out. I don't have a car and i am still very much a beginner in the ice area, but with a pretty good trad background.

I was "restructured" out of a job. I have nothing to do, so I can climb anytime during the week. I have the flu right now but should be good to go in a few days.

In reply to: is this a subtle hint that she shouldn't climb with me ren?!! oops busted I guess next time I'll have to be abit more subtle.  seriously, joss Sal is a great person to be around, just don't piss her off...she'll hold a grudge for like three minutes on ya. She's a quick study and an absolute joy to be around. Even stading in line at the bottom of a climb.
In reply to: I was "restructured" out of a job you remember what you said to me before I left Kev? In reply to: "get the hell out and don't come back! That's the last time you piss of my wife you waste of skin!" no no that one the other one...In reply to: "Man i wish i were like you and could climb everyday" yeah that one that one...cafeful what you wish for man...congratulations on the recent unemployment. Eric was a dick anyway. NOW you just have to get better or suck it up, get dressed and go climbing already man sheesh!!!
