The time I was most relieved to have duct tape: DUCT TAPE GAITERS! :D Sure, I'm walking on fresh ski tracks here, but it took well over an hour of wading through hip deep snow to get there. ;) http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=40697

go to a craft store and get a pattern. instead of using material, cover the pattern in tape. tape all the pieces together and there ya go! Get different colors and just be creative.

I once took an entire roll and made a ball out of it and stuck a peice of webbing through it and wedged it between my door and stairs. I then proceeded to hang off of it for about 30 minutes to prove a point.

If you are patient, you can make killer duct tape wallets. It takes a while, but are very cool once finished.(lol waterproof too) My friend and I also managed to make a pair of cargo shorts with duct tape. It took 2 hours and they were uncomfortable but very neat to loook at.

About 10% of the sheath of my haul line is duct tape. I heard you are supposed to retire it when you have either 20 core shots or 20% of the sheath is duct tape. Any truth to that? 20% seems a bit low don't you think? I mean the real strength is in the core, the sheath is just for protection of the core. TRADitionally yours, Cali Dirtbag

I think it was last months Outside Magazine that had a quick page about best duct tape stories.... the best was a quick one liner "I duct taped my broken hang glider while in flight". Personally... I've used it to bandage leg gashes, prevent blisters (or cover blisters), put the heel back on a jungle boot while in the field, replace sewing when making a stuff sack, reinforcing zip-loc bags, etc. etc.

When I was doing geology survey work in Labrador we used it to seal up our clothes to keep out the flies when they got really bad. A couple of wraps arround the ankels, arround the wrists to sealing on the gloves and some more keeping the edge of the bug hat sung. At first it really looked silly but after a few days We would do anything to keep the flies out.

I must say that it works great as a bandaid or to close a wound, but taking it off when you're back in civilization is the hard part! I guess you should leave it. At some point you will become one with the duct tape.

As to its medical uses...we always carry a little bit in our first aid kits at camp when we go on hikes and stuff. I've found it works pretty well to tape over a "hot spot," before a blister develops. Taping over a blister is sketchy, especially if it has already popped. Peeling the stuff off your skin without taking loose flappers with it is pretty difficult.

I was painting the interior of my house a few weeks back and my dog came in while the paint was wet, got herself stuck in a corner, and had to back out inadvertently rubbing the wall. Being 11 years old, nasty and a constant shedder, she left a wad of hair the size of a tennis racket. So, I went in with tha duct tape and removed the hair! Voila...

I love duct tape for kid-nappings, it is so handy and fast, you don't have to wory about knots and if you put it around the ankles realy tight circulation gets cut off and running away is harder then ever.

I got new white shoes for Pennsylvania American Legion State Police Youth Week a few summers ago. We marched around everywhere at that camp and ran for at least 20 minutes every other morning. The bad part about the new shoes (which I had to get 'cause white was the dress code) was that they wore the skin right off of the back of my heel. They were tight, like any marching shoe should be, but had an unecessarily high rise on the heel. I'm never buying Adidas again. I woke up every morning before we ran just long enough to place a nice coat of duct tape over the hot spot so my skin didn't wear away to the bone. Thanks duct tape!

IN climbing, duct tape is great for protecting static cordage from abrasion. I use silver, black and camoflage as the terrain requires. Duct tape is also useful to secure a better rope protector when rope is moving over an abrasive surface or edge

I live in alaska....need I say more   . Time to go find the picture of the bush plane that was duct taped together... Not having any luck. If anybody has this picture lying around its actually quite funny... That stuff is strong! Doubled over duct tape can pull cars out of ditches! Thats probably 10kn of strenght in something so small! The climbing companies need to look into what makes this so strong!

Duct tape can be bad. The glue comes off. It degrades. When you're ready to step up, upgrade to Gaffer tape.

True duct tape atrisans don't just stick things together and patch stuff with duct tape. They create things that previously didn't exist. With duct tape and a bit of creativity anything is possible. Though, I will echo glowering's remark. Gaffer tape is even better than duct tape. It's true. No, really. It's true. Tuna, surely you know this.

Ripped a hole in my pants while post-holeing (sp?) in waist deep snow, should have brought the snowshoes. Fixed it up real nice with duct tape to keep the snow of my boys. Sucked cleaning of the residue to sew em up though.

I tell my patients that duct tape is good for warts...the girls don't like it too much though. Not a life saving usage, but interesting none the less. I once taped the walls of my tent together when they ripped apart in the middle of the night during a hurricane one fall on a fishing trip. That was more of a lilfe saving feature of duct tape I guess.

Believe it or not, Euroford, cloth "duct" tape is no good for air ducts. Foil tape or a brush on sealant should be used. This is a common misconception, and in a lot of places, a code violation.

When I was in college, in an acappella group, I was in a skit where I was a 'music repairman'. The group sang a chord, and one person intentionally sang off-key, resulting in a nasty sound. I was 'called in', and proceeded to locate the singer who was off-key. I whipped out some duct tape, and slapped it on his face. The next chord sounded great, and everyone laughed at the skit. But then the singer who had the duct tape on his mouth had to get it off. In making the big motions necessary for a big laugh, I had actually slapped the duct tape quite firmly on his face. When he peeled it off, it hurt quite a bit, and he let out an involuntary, loud 'OW!'. The audience found that funnier than the skit. -aB ps: he forgave me, eventually.

In the US Navy for 6 years... Plenty of uses to include: Tape wires down on floor or out of the way. Tape wires back together after splicing (much wider than electricians' tape). Repair broken hoses. Attach leg splint to broken leg. Rappelling harness.( :D Good times  ) Taping annoying people to walls. Patch hole in water tanks. Repair hydraulic lines. Shower curtains for that added cleaning privacy. And my favorite: Hand made seat cover for the chair that I sat in for 8 -14 hours a day and shared with 12 others. = no ass stank 8^)

The guys on Myth Busters actually tried this out on a car radiator and it did work for a hole about the size of a screwdriver. I was as shoked as they were!!! I don' t know how long it will last, surely long enough to buy some real sealer.

I can make lots and lots of things with duct tape. The most unusual thing would have to be earrings. My ex's brother taught me. Paper clips work well for the part that goes through the ear. Other than that, it would just have to be private use

Duct tape is an esential tool for any rock festival. Tie up annoying drunks (although she was alergic to the glue and had to go to the hospital) repair wrecked pants, repair tent, built cooler, and a lot of other stuff. If the thread is still going when im at home, i will post pictures. qwert

This past April I was trained to respond to a Level B hazardous materials / weapons of mass destruction incident. I was kind of distraught that they rely on duct tape to seal up all the seams on the suits, holes around the masks and sealing up the areas around the rubber boots and gloves. So duct tape must be pretty strong if the government says it can withstand smallpox and mustard gas!!
