I have found something out. Stop using shampoo for like a week, and you dont need to use it anymore! I've been showering, but not using shampoo because rubbing my head made my teeth hurt (dont ask me why) But now my hair looks like I have used shampoo! It's AMAzing! i'm gonna leave it like this now Keep It up ~Jeremy

Shampoo is overrated. I use it on and off. If I'm just rinsing off before I go to school or something I don't bother... water will do. If I'm sweating like a pig and then I'm just staying home I also don't bother. Most of them have bad things in the like laurethyl sulfate (or something like that); however water alone won't clean oils (natural or otherwise) from your hair so you need (well... not need) to use it every once in a while. Plus, I like the way some of them smell... but not really on me so much. Depends on the scent, but I don't really like smelling like Herbal Essences all that much. I start feeling like a flower or a fruit (ha ha, pun half intended).

Piss? yup that's where soap comes from (or came from I guess). Apparantly in some places they use camel urine as shampoo (and supposedly it's the same consistency as shampoo... I'm not sure though). Goooooo uric acid [ This Message was edited by: kriso9tails on 2002-07-04 20:40 ]

Actually, dreads require shampooing daily to strip all the natural oils from the hairs making it more likely to knot up.

Shampoo is effective at cleaning hair, but not if you use it daily. I recommend washing your hair 2 or 3 times a week and using a leave in conditioner.

You're partly right. Shampooing is only necessary 2 to 3 times per week, but not really for cleaning your hair. Shampoo's main objective is to clean your scalp. Your scalp produces an oily substance called "sebum". Without the use of shampoo, your scalp will get a build-up of this sebum. This allong with your natural shedding of skin cells, will form chunks of flakes, on your scalp, which will then peel off, exposing an oozing open sore underneath. (Thank you Joji's Academy of Hairdressing, I'll be paying off that student loan shortly.) Do your hairdresser/barber or whatever a favor and wash your freakin head, you dirty, dirty boy. Oh yes, and my husband has a beautiful head of dreads that he washes 2 to 3 times per week. You can clip them off and use them for air fresheners.

yeah, i barely wash my hair. it's dry on it's own so if i leave it for a few days it gets the oils going. it depends on your hair type though

I heard that when you stop washing your hair, your scalp produces less oil because your not stipping it off everyday. So when your used to washing your hair daily and miss a day, you will have double the oil, but if your body doesnt produce as much you will still be normal. You can't use shampoo before you get your dreds. You have to wash your hair with Bar Soap

I'd take him up on that deal. It'd cost ya $500 to have me do it. But I'd refuse if your hair is straight, 'cause straight hair dreaded is just uuuuuuugggly! ...and 2-3 times per week is just fine. Yes, if you wash it everyday your scalp will overcompensate for the oils you are stripping away. ...and of course you like to be called dirty. Every boy does. Lucky for me I found the best dirty boy ever.
