I headed out to Ragged yesterday morning before I had to go to work. Someone had removed the rap anchor from the top of the Wiessner Slab. So just a heads up everyone, don't expect it to be there.

It has to be some sort of curse that every day that I'm available to climb the weather is forecast to be crappy. :x So despite what the forecast says, I'm going to be up at ragged Tuesday if anyone wants to join me. I'm just hoping the scattered showers are not on the cliff. Sean

I was running the loop at Ragged yesterday...and guess what I found.... It was ON FIRE! The top of Main Cliff had 3 separate fires going 2 where just tons of smoke but 1 was definitely burning. I ended up calling the Fire Department and it took them forever to figure out where I was. So be careful when you are anchoring off of trees up there. dev

I haven't had the time to get up to central CT lately so I've been working on some problems @ Mt. Laurel . It's better than the gym and alot closer. I might be available to climb this Saturday though... Sean

I'll be down (home) in Hartford this weekend and it looks like the weather will be great on Sunday. I'm in need of a partner for Sunday if anyone is interested. I was thinking Ragged as I've never been there before and I grew up only 30 minutes away! I'm just learning to trad lead this summer so I'd be happy cleaning (up to 5.10 or so) for someone who might teach me a thing or two. I also wouldn't mind trying out some of 5.6/5.7's there myself. Shoot me a PM if you'll be around. Thanks. edit: I have my own rack (passive only at this point). Tripp

So, since no one is posting anything, I will. Yesterday Noseblob Dudemanbu and Devkrev headed over to Owl's Lair, mostly because devkrev is a wuss and doesn't like the cold, but also because he wanted to throw Dudemanbu on the best 5.5 this side of Jackie. And thats what we started out on. Dudemanbu led clean and effortlessly, and right at the top 10 feet out from his last placement, he almost got bit by a baby copperhead. It was sitting right ontop of the "thank-god" jug on the last move before the top-out, and thank god he didn't go for it. Quickly he topped out fast as a jack rabbit, set an anchor, and set about waking and moving this snake....to the bottom of the cliff. It survived the fall, and was quite upset. Noseblob did his best Steve Erwin impression (without all that getting stabbed in the heart business) and moved the snake to a safer location. The rest of the day was spent with me rope gunning (i.e. whimpering and crying about no gear) up a few routes (a 5.4 and 2 5.8s) and Dudemanbu bravely onsighting a dirty gross 5.4 (with 2 stars) at the Citadel, if you have never heard of it, good for you. We pretty much spent the day on the "other side" of Ragged Mtn. and if you have never been, and like copperheads, endangered species of newts, and dirty choss, go check it out. dev ps. we didn't have a camera nor phone with camera capabilities.

hi, my name is gabe, and i am pretty new to climbing. i started climbing in june and have been doing a lot of gym and wall climbing, but have only gotten out to the crag a few times. i was wondering if there was any climbing group in ct that i might hop onto, or if anyone doesn't mind showing a newbie some tricks. if it helps- i'v eclimbed 5.7 outdoors and don't really keep track of what i do in the gym, as i mostly go just for the work out and the fun. oh, i live in west hartford. thanks for any help you can give. -g edit: i'm 17 if it matters.

Hey Gabe, The only thing about you being 17 is liability. You are off to a good start by your introduction though, no "I CLIMB 5.11++" only to find out its in the gym later on. A group that might work for you is the ctclimbers.com They TR one night a week somewhere around CT. But they may be climbing indoors now. But they are friendly enough. dev

Hi, my name is Shira and I'm 23. I recently returned to climbing after a six or seven year hiatus. Then my climbing partner abandoned me for California, so I'm looking for people to climb with. I'm from New London, but I don't mind driving a bit. I have no gear, so I guess I'm looking for someone who wants to climb indoors (I used to go to Prime Climb in Wallingford), or someone who doesn't mind taking me under their wing for outdoor climbing. I'm also not at a point where I want to lead anything, so maybe I wouldn't be any fun outdoors.... Anyway, anyone near New London, Wallingford, or anywhere in between - I'd love to be in touch with you. Thanks.

Hey Shira, welcome to CT. Prime Climb is a really nice gym (as far as CT gyms go). If you go on a weeknight, most likely you won't have a hard time finding someone to sling you a belay. Climbing outside is starting to get a little cold. On Sunday I had my first "numb hands while climbing" of the season. You said you didn't have any gear, does that include harness/shoes/personal stuff? dev

Hi Dev, thanks for the info on Prime Climb. I do, in fact, have a harness, shoes, etc. You're right, by the way, it is getting cold. (I just came back from climbing in Utah and Southern California, so I forgot that winter is actually coming.) Where in CT are you from?

It definitely is getting cold out, went out today and if your not climbing in the sun your hands are going to be freezing.
