Good news and bad news.

I said I'd post here when I got an update from the publisher, and I got one late last week.

The publisher has decided that they want to print the book in color, rather than the black and white we had been planning on the entire time. This is good because it makes a better product but its also bad because they have pushed back the release date to Feburary, and raised the price a few dollars!

If you pre-ordered the book, your retailer should be contacting you, with a very polite email informing you of this.

I am very sorry about this and apologize to everyone who pre-ordered the book thinking they would have it by now. I had no way of knowing that this was going to happen, and just want the book to get out there.

Again, I'm very sorry, all I can say is that at least we know the publisher is comitted to the project and wants to do the best they can with it.

If you've ordered the book and have a pressing question that can't wait until Feburary post here or PM me and I'll see if I can help you out.

-Douglas

Warning; If your wife and baby child have just gone to sleep you may want to make sure your volume is turned down so you don't wake them up. If you already did, my apologies.

I'm disappointed in the delay, as I'm wanting to start my winter training program now, not in February. Having not followed this thread I was hoping to order the book today. Oh well. Here's how Stackpole Books responded to my email inquiry:

The Self-Coached Climber that used to be listed on our website has been
removed due to changes to the book. The new publication date is February,
2006. This new version will have the original black and white drawings, as
well as colour art. The DVD will still be included. The new price is
$34.95 and the new ISBN is 0-8117-3339-4. (The cover will be the same as
the one you see flashing by in the slideshow under 'New Titles' on the website.)

The Self-Coached Climber will be returned to our website approx. January,
2006, when we have final information regarding page count, size, and other
details of the new version of the book. However, if you wish to place a backorder for this
title, you can contact us at the numbers below to place the order over the
phone.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have any other
questions.

Thank you.

Fluxus,

Thanks for the updates. I'm looking forward to the book. Having to wait a few months for colour pictures sounds worth it.

I can't wait until Feburary to find out the secret to time travel. Can't you just spill the beans now?

I already posted it, but I did it from the future so, I guess it won't be showing up for a while.

Well, the publication delay is a pity but I hope that ultimately it will be better for the book. As phlsphr wrote, I was hoping to get started on my winter training soon with a bunch of new tools.

I was just about to write an irate e-mail to Amazon, form whom I pre-ordered the book, but now I know the reason for the delay. Strangely, they have not been in touch with me regarding the price increase, so hopefully I've locked them in at the pre-order price!

The price issue raises a good question, I check with Stackpole and see if they know anything.

Well, Amazon cancelled my order, saying, "Though we had expected to be able to send this item to you, we've since found that it will not be released after all." I tried to search Amazon for the book and it is no longer listed. So, perhaps there are some gaps in communication between Amazon and Stackpole.

I know, Douglas, that you are in no way responsible for any of this, but thought you'd like to know what I'm receiving from Amazon. Like many of us here, I am eagerly awaiting the release of your book.

Just so that everyone knows:

the book is still coming out but due to the re-print in color the old ISBN number was deleted. Amazon saw this and started sending out the emails that you all got saying that the book was not going to be published. This is entirly an Amazon error, the book is being published, the final materials for the re-print are going to China this week. But the book is being published under a new ISBN. The publisher is contacting Amazon today.

Sorry for all the confusion, thanks for the support, and thanks to the folks who sent me PMs alerting me to the situation.

Doug,

I've got the book and DVD. They arrived just the other day. Thanks for the advance copy. I'm going to try to get you a review before they hit the shelves.

Sounds like a great book to have. I'd like to read the review mentioned above. Can anyone post the link for it, please? Thanks.
