Wait till you get on real rock, and begin bleeding! :mrgreen: The first time I climbed (89 -or- 90), I went straight back to the local gear shop, and dropped a ton of ca$h on a rope, slings, biners, shoes and a harness... I was actually in the gear shop BS'ing w/ the owner (who was a friend of mine), when I met the guy that took me climbing that afternoon. While he was unsafe and no longer climbs, we have remained close friends ever since. While I did have about a 10 year hiatus from climbing (1993-2003) I'm now on my 2nd rope, 2nd harness, 5th pair of shoes, and am forever looking to add more gear to my rack! :wink:

Since this will be your first climb ever, you'll obviously be on a top rope, and HOPEFULLY will have a competent belayer, so even if you do fall, you'll weight the rope and hang about 20" below where you let go. Do as the others all say, and don't be afraid of falling. Don't get to a point where you're all stressed out and start clinging to the holds ( it's a perfectly normal reaction, unless you know better!). Just keep climbing, take rests when you need them, and keep climbing. If you think you're going to fall, just keep climbing. When you actually begin to fall, yell " F-A-L-L-I-N-G", so that your belayer instantly knows that your life is now in his/her hands for real. One of the most important aspects of climbing, is the understanding that it's actually more mental than physical. For most of us, that took a little time to understand! :idea: How come I am sore afterwards if its more mental? :)

Just remember to always check your knot. Make sure your belayer has a clue and be safe. The fundamentals of climbing take the longest to learn and are the most important, you should be overly aware of all the measures of safety no matter how strong you are or how long you have been climbing. : :D

Just do what everyone else is saying. Remember the feet. You'll probabaly be pumped after just a few routes, but stay with it and go back for more later. After your first few times even, you'll feel the difference. Have fun!
