was anyone else at Seneca this Thursday? The weather was absolutely beautiful, couldn't have wished for anything better. Here's a picture of some intrepid climbers mounting a late descent down Traffic Jam.

I go to school in Grove City...Ive heard McConnell's Mill is amazing. So if you're still looking for someone to climb with- I'm in. (maybe when it's not still snowing) I haven't climbed in W. PA yet- just moved here from Southwest CO for school.

You've been lied to. It is fine for what it is, but not close to amazing. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone road tripping from alaska to climb at the mill.

I like going there only because it is very close by. There is a good number of climbs and a ton of boulders. I find the area is slow to dry out. I understand Bill (log in name charley) lives close by. He seems to go often.

I would be willing to go if we find there is a warm day one weekend this winter. I look forward to meeting you.

...are there warm weekends in winter in western pa? (sorry for the alliteration) I'd love to go if such a day comes around. thanks for replying and filling me in. Do you know if the wall at Slippery Rock is any good? I've seen pictures, but haven't gotten a chance to climb there yet. I have a feeling it's going to be awhile before climbing outside becomes an option.

Harky, the mill beats nothing. I have seen ppl travel from new york, co., and scotland to climb there. I think they were stopping on the way by. As far as warm weather in winter, were you sleeping all day last friday when it went up to 65'. It was also nice and climbable sunday. Read a few of my posts in here. you could have climbed every week except dec. and maybe some of that. I climb there when it is 30'.
I climbed outdoors 17 straight months once.
Sru has a nice wall. It is 42' and is fibreglas that looks like rock so you can climb alot and not be on holds bolted on. It is also only $5/person/day and includes pool, shower, bball courts, weights, many machines, and cardio apparatus.

If the weather guy is right, sunday is to be 37 and cloudy following a 28' nite and a rainy day. You should be able to boulder. I can show you what is there and we can get some bouldering in and still make the steeler game. Oh, you're from Co. Let me know and we can decide on a time.

Well, after a 17' night, the rock was cold at the mill today. Down climbing my first climb on h&r block my fingers were numb. After a little hot air they were ok. I had a good time bouldering and came home with sore tips and shoulders. I saw one other climber, from cmu. I got home in time to watch the steelers beat the broncos.

Rain is predicted for Sunday. I am going to try to be at Logtown on Sunday. I haven't picked out a time yet. I will have to see when my friends are up for leaving pgh. Is there a time you are planning on being there? I would like to hang out a bit more since we missed last time.

I AM AN IDIOT

I reread what I wrote. Rain is predicted on Sunday. So, I am expecting to go on SATURDAY. I sent out an email to a few friends and received no responses yet. I may not have anyone else coming. I personally don't care about time. When are you meeting your friend on Saturday? I can send another email requesting that we make it to lisbon by then.

I am extatic. I had a great day climbing today. I went to logtown quarry in lisbon, ohio. It's one of those places where you climb out of the hole in the ground. Met John and John in the lot and we went on up cause I didn't know for sure when others were getting there. John led this 5.8 or so climb and I got on it on tr even though I have never done it. I came off a cpl times and made it two or so moves further than ever before. We went on down to footloose a 5.9 and I struggled on it for a long time then said the hell with it. By this time Dave has gotten here and Dan, Kubi, and some others from da burgh. Then we went down to Beam me up which is usually wet. Today, in Jan. it was mostly dry. John again led,He's da man,. I did slippery as an eel off the same anchors, a 5.8 I have never been able to finish. I completed it. Not pretty but done. My finger tips were frozen and trashed when I finished it. My legs and arms were shaking and I couldn't feel my fingers for the last 10-15 feet. I am excited, cause thats a big deal for me. There are only two other 5.8's That I have ever gotten up. Later I led the 5.4 classic crack, trad. It was a great day. 53 degrees and sunny in January in nw Pa/ ne ohio. It don't get any better. Climbing with good friends in jan and still making progress at my age. DAYUM!!

Indeed, that was a great TR. My day was good as well. We arrived at Lisbon as Bill was in the middle of the 5.8 climb. It was good to meet John and John. Jim (kubi) and I led all of the climbs that were on the Front wall that I saw except for one variation. Jim ended up leading the 5.4 trad corner crack and also a 5.9. I went for the hardest onsight trad lead yet attempted for me. The 5.6 took lots of good gear. I didn't see the move to top out right away though. So, I downclimbed and had to give it another go after hanging for a bit. I am still glad that I stuck to making the hard move above trad gear. It eventually went easily, but I had to overcome my own fear. My girlfriend, Lam, ended up climbing well overall for the day, and Brian decided his injury was too much to climb on. He will be back another day to do those leads. Both of them spent a lot of the day on the slackline too.

I look forward to the next time we get out.

What I did by scotty may have been a 5,7 variation, the guidebook is not that clear. I am still happy I did it, cause I have been on it before and not made it. I don't care about the grade but at my age it's nice to make it up a route you have failed on before. I think we all had a great day. Today it's raining, monday will have some snow and the next ten days do not look good for outdoor climbing. Sorry for those who didn't make it out. Hope to get out with you guys again soon.

I was just noticeing a post starting a gathering in rumney this summer. The eastern part of pa has a gunks gathering in the fall. I think wpa should have a gathering this summer in seneca and maybe one at nrg too. What do you think. Maybe if we keep it simple and just have community meals or eat together at the same time we could simplify eating. All we need to do is climb and then get together to drink and tell lies after dark. What do you think. The rondeveau is in may at nrg. We could go to one in june and one in july. We could do sept and oct also. Let's have some thoughts. WE could invite epa, ohio, and wv. too.

I like the idea. One minor problem for me is that I will probably go on an internship outside of Pittsburgh again this summer. So, maybe May would be a good time for me, but I would encourage the idea even during the summer.

A second thought is that we often drive down to those places on our own. I would be more psyched about making a slightly longer drive to a place where we go less often as individuals. My thoughts would be RRG or the Gunks.

Would this be a weekend thing or a weeklong thing? That could cut out my suggestions. Like I said though, I would be up for a trip to anyplace.

Let me know what you think.
