Hey all, I'm relativly new to climbing (have been doing indoor at school for about half the year, and have climbed at the Mills once before), and I am really looking to get involved this summer. I am from the North Hills, and I am planning on checking out Climb North gym (about 5 mins from my house) in hopes of meeting some people. Although, I really want to get involved outdoors this summer. Basically, if anyone wouldn't mind taking someone under their wing for a little sharing of experience, it would be great to get to know some people in the area.

Hey jconly, Around here we're all about helping people get started. We'd be happy to take you on some trips outside, if it ever stopped raining long enough for the rocks to dry! Alternatively, if you have a way to get down to the city, there's a group of us that go climbing almost every Tuesday and Thursday at the Climbing Wall in Wilkinsburg. I'm sending you a PM with more info. Matt

no, I went to one comp and found it wasn't for me. Good news is that they raised $1700 for White Rocks. Only another 83300 left to go. I wish them luck. I figure I will see how much I can donate directly after my next paycheck.

we're leaving in a couple hours for the New as well. it seems a lot of people are heading down there this weekend! we're opting to stay with my mother (she lives 45 minutes from the gorge) and shuttle back and forth, hanging out mostly in Bubba city and Junkyard. just look for the tan 4Runner with NRG, SR, and JT stickers! victor

man, I feel like such a loser It was a great weekend to be out. Especially Sunday and Monday! I went to NY on vacation for two days. Then I moved apartments and got a puppy. I have a lot keeping me busy. I will probably get some free time to come climbing in a week or two. I don't know how hard I will be able to climb though. I busted my foot. I was stupid and kicked a rock while wearing sandals. It looks like the crack in my toenail will take about a month to grow out. Hope you all get enough fun outside to make up for my lost time.

Claire and I were at Sandstonia (aka tattoo wall) saturday morning for a few climbs...rock was a little wet, but soon dried out. also picked up the new NRG guide, which is really good and has the new Meadows routes. Met up with friends Sunday AM in Junkyard for rappelling and TR. Monday we went to Beer Wall, spent some time on the popular 5.5, 5.6, and 5.7 area, then, for the last climb of the day, my friend (terry s.) attempted Beer Wench (5.8), was about to clip into the 5th bolt, right foot slipped, and he took about a 15 foot fall, but not before slamming into an 8 inch ledge midway through the fall, breaking his left ankle and right elbow. he was able to ambulate with minimal assistance back to the car, went directly to Canonsburg hospital, admitted overnight, and had surgery next day. although he remains in good spirits, he's out for the rest of the summer. 6 weeks in a cast + physical therapy. remember to be CAREFUL out there... obviously this sport can be dangerous. victor

Sorry to hear that he got hurt. That is a good reminder. Too bad we need reminders about the dangers of the sport sometimes. Hope he is back to 100% quickly.

I'm sorry this happened. My best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery. I hope Terry emerges stronger and bolder for the experience.

Anyone have any ideas as to who stole the shuts up at Breakneck Rocks? There's a reward for any infomation leading to a conviction ;) Good news is that they've been replaced! Thanks again goes out to all of you who've donated graciously to the SWPA bolt fund.
