Probably late and past the point but quite a few mountaineers over the decades have taken pride in bouldering in some form.

this is ridiculous. what a waste of time. i climb on a rope when i get a chance and boulder as often as possible. i don't care who likes alpining, trad, sport, multi pitch, or bouldering. try doing them all. pick the one you like and be the best you can at it. personally i don't want to see half of you at my local areas. keep your bitter opinions to yourself and respect other climbers. by the way... personally in my 7 years of being on the rock. bouldering blew my mind at its difficulty level. still struggling. not saying it's my favorite, but negating it's difficulty level proves you have no idea what your talking about.

In reply to: oops..busted however bouldering is still a girlyman version of climbing three things... 1. this website www.rockclimbing.com thinks bouldering is a perfectly fine aspect of climbing... so i only hope that this website isnt too girly for you... 2. and ask Chris Sharma how he got to the top of 'witness the fitness'... im sure he will tell you that he did not fall up there 3. find some other friends who think the same way... im sure everyone here is tired of babysitting for the length that this post has been up

Ignorant Climbers, I have read some of the most idiotic comments in this thread. First off dont hate on bouldering because you cant pull your fat ass up V0's, dont need to be jealous just lose 50 lbs and learn to do more than one pullup and maybe you can have a different respect for people out there dead hanging from half pad crimps and cranking one arm pullups. Secondly there is no V10/11 climber that cant climb 20 pitches of 5.9, if your fat ass can do any v11 climber can do it, probably in better style than you. I dont trad climb but i totaly respect people out there with good energy that climb in any style to each his own, all im saying is dont sit on your fat ass and namelessly talk shit.

In reply to: In reply to: Frankly, I think that alpine climbing is pretty much a joke. Why don't you call it what it is? Hiking up a mountian in the snow. I know there is some climbing involved, but most of getting up the mountain is not climbing. You're pretty much hiking to a climb, climbing, hiking to another climb higher up, climbing, ad nauseum. Bouldering is more climbing that alpine could ever be. ok someone does not know the meaning of alpine climbing. Alpine climbing is where you can do a mix of rock climbin, ice climbing and dry, tooling up a huge mountain that has terrible wether and it has SO MUCH CLIMBING involved that it that MULTIPLE DAYS to climb Right. And there might be some 5.5 moves involved also. Don't forget that.

Drops 6 ft of snow on your route and you get powderclouds wafting into camp from the avalanches after it clears.

i think bouldering pushes you at your limit like no other type of climbing. the moves on bouldering are harder and more powerful then you could ever do on any sport or trad climb. on those it could be 20+ feet till the crux or even 15 pitches before, either way it isnt you strongest possible go. with bouldering youre about to push your body to the peak of it's performance. no easy moves to wear you out on, it's there and you can see it two inches from your face. you're completely fresh and at the height of your ability. with no other form of climbing can you do this.

In reply to: Bouldering is nice when bored. Sure it takes skill.. but so does snatching flies out of the air with chopsticks. What is wrong with people it seems as though they just want to start controversy when bored. As to the op fuck you, I love to boulder, but I don't go around bashing aid, trad, or sport next time you feel the need to waste your own breath go fuck yourself instead.
