I don't push products much, but I mentioned your design on my blog. Nothing fancy, but I get a few hundred hits a week, so maybe someone will come your way.

Are you happy with cafe-press. I've consider creating an account with them, but haven't committed yet.

Thanks Eman. Yeah, I like cafepress. Happygirrl has a bit more experience with them than I do so you may want to hit her up too. But I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Yeah - include the link. Or is that just some sick marketing ploy to have the guy click around looking for it.... ahahah

RE: CafePress - I have been doing stuff on there for a couple years now, and am pretty satisfied. There are pros and cons. One of the biggest con's is that they changed their policy on commissions a few months ago.
- You can mark your items to whatever price you want(of course it cannot go below the base price CP charges),

BUT

there are two ways someone can get "to' your product on the site.

First, you drive them there through whatever way you do(websites, someone sends a link to them in an email, your shop comes up in a search, or what have you.)

The other way is if they come in THROUGH the CafePress website. CafePress has really good SEO and unless you do too, anyone who enters "rock climbing t-shirt(or just about anything and t-shirt) into a search, the CP site will come up first. So, the person will click that, and may find your design....

In THAT scenario(which they call Marketplace) you only receive a 10% commission on your item. Not only that - CP makes their OWN price, which most likely is NOT the same as what you are pricing at. In fact, they keep changing the prices around as *test* to see which people like the most....

So - you can sell a shirt for $25.00, and have your markup of, say, $5.00 or $10 or whatever. But if "CP sells" the same item at $22.00, you only get $2.20.

The thing you need to do is to drive the business to your shop yourself. CafePress will NOT do that for you. You have to do that with really good SEO, because there are pro sellers on there who DO have good SEO, and their crappy clip art "IClimb"(with an image of a person on rappel) will come up on page 1 while your item may be buried wherever....

People will NOT find your goods if you just put them up there and hope. Believe me - I know.

The quality on CP is good, though on occasion the print may not be as great as you were hoping. What I discovered is that this is mostly my own fault, in not understanding the qualities needed to be put in to get good quality out.

CP has an excellent customer satisfaction policy, and that is really great. If your customer doesn't like it - for whatever reason - they will refund or replace.

They do all the invoicing and shipping, and customer service, not to mention having the inventory of blanks ready to print on demand, which is a HUGE expense for someone to undertake on their own. And they do it well.

Personally, I am happy with CP except for they did that 10% commission change. It really sucks. But I am doing what I can to drive people directly to my shop, whereas for many years I just didn't get how important that aspect of the equation was. So long as CP doesn't change their policy AGAIN(which they can, at any time), and limit the price we sellers can put our goods out at, I will stay there.

The other "most used" print on demand place is Zazzle.com and I haven't got much experience with them yet. From what I am seeing, other sellers are happy with them. The service is good, the shirt and print quality is good.

I find the platform very confusing and am only just beginning to understand how to actually get my shop the way I want it. But - that might be because I expect it to be "like" cafepress, and the system is totally not the same.

Zazzle has microfiber shirts, which makes them attractive. CP doesn't. And they have a variety of shirt styles that CP doesn't have. They are a little more expensive.

One thing to be sure to do(which I didn't) is to make sure you keep files of any artwork you upload to these places. So that when they change policy, you can go somewhere else with your designs. They will not send them back to you. And in some ways they retain rights to the images and their use(in promotions, for example). If these issues are critical for you - you should be sure to understand what the small print says.

Thanks all! And feel free to use the pic if it will help you out. The ring came out beautifully, just a simple unobtrusive flat band. Working and staying employed long enough to buy the platinum was harder than making the ring.
