Ramlson - Great idea on the Bouldering get together, I'm in. Where is the party going to be held? I don't know if this is a possibility, but I've got one heck of a DJ system I could bring with if you wanted to have a real party somewhere, just an idea to throw out there. Plus, an idea I've had lately is to have a tour of some of the "Secret" Sandstone bouldering areas( You've seen the pics ). If people were interested we could figure out a weekend this spring and I could work out the logistics. It would probably take two days to do this little tour.
Later

I was wondering when you were going to chime in Chad. :D Glad to see that you're willing to get one some rock w/ us in a few weeks. I would be completely down to do the tour, heck it's more climbing. Heck, we could start to tour at the Lake that weekend, at the Junkyard boulder or something along the North Shore. Whatever..

I didn't know you used to DJ either. Same boat, just needed to take a break for awhile, but I've spun throughout the midwest. Sounds like we could get something serious going to the summer. Wonder if Kay would mind putting something together up at Green Valley. Could be super fun some summer night.

BTW, and this is for everyone, looks like I'll be gunning for RRG March 13th-15th if anyone is interested (although, this trip is still somewhat up in the air). And, Rocktown/HP40 April 6th-11th. Anyone interested?

Hey Ramyson, I'm still doing the DJ thing about once a month or so. I got really sick of it after being booked about every weekend last summer and missing out on lots of climbing adventures. This summer is going to be about R & R and lots of travel. I've got tons of sound gear so we can really tear it up if things work out. I'm down with the bouldering in a couple weeks, can't wait.
Not sure if I can pull off the RRG trip but the HP40 or Rocktown thing might work. I was kinda thinking about hitting Jackson Falls over Easter and HP40 or Spearfish Canyon over Memorial Day. All those plans are up in the air though.
Anyone that wants to join in on a bouldering tour of the lesser known places in Western Wisconsin just speak up. THere is so much out there!

Dan, I was going to go the weekend after spring break, but I'm going to be:
1) broke
2) returning my old man's truck
3) getting my bro's tent back to him

so thats not going to work. I'll look in to further dates later and see what I can muster up.

quickclips...if you can get to milwaukee two weekends after we get back (first weekend in April), i'd be all up for driving my ride to the red. I'd have to be back by Sunday, but that's not a whole lot different than your plan, as far as i heard. what do you say? You can hear the faint siren's call of the Red calling your name...

Dan, I'll see. Right now I'm planning on backpacking that weekend. But we'll see. I might be able to change my plans as long as someone from my group takes the back packing group out.

I say we stay at the lake as soon as people respond I will reserve a campsite. Unless people are absolutely against this. Sorry but $10 a night for as many people as we can fit beats out $6/night/person. Sorry Kay but you need to lower the prices.

I really don't care where we all stay. I'm actually suprised that places are open to camp this early in the year. I have nothing against staying at either place. Hopefully the weather will straighten up a bit.

hey all i'm new to this site. I currently live right in the middle of illinois. Bloomington if any of you happen to have been to upper limits that's my home gym (i know it's a gym but good luck finding a crag around here)

Anyway i'm all for getting in on a trip someplace. I just got back from jackson falls. That was some amazing climbing.

how is starved rock? Is that climbing any good?

Anyway if anyone is looking to get a trip together in illinois for a weekend lemme know and i'm all about going. i'm at most 4 hours from anywhere in this state, so nothing is really out of reach. I'd be down for hitting starved rock if it's worth doing.

oh by the way i mostly boulder and sport climb, haven't really touched trad yet.

first off, welcome to the community!

FYI, rock climbing at starved rock is not allowed. (IMO, after looking at the rock while ice climbing, which is an approved activity, i'm not sure if i'd want to. the quality of the rock seems to be on the low side)

there's loads of climbing in southern illinois. jackson falls (which has a lot in itself) isn't the only destination down there, check the route database here for more areas.

i was planning on heading out there this weekend, but the rainy forecast stopped me. I think it turned out raining a lot less than they were predicting. Did you get wet at all?

No, we had one cloudy morning but it had broken open to blue skies by about 930. The first night was a bit cold in the tent since it got down to 20 degrees. that was a bit much. Aside from that i have no complaints it was a great trip. Once i get ahold of a scanner i'll throw up some pictures

Alright we need some people to talk on this thread. Anyways weather is looking worse and worse in Baraboo this weekend anyone up for changing the plans to RRG or Jackson Falls? We are talking mid to low forties in WI and mid to high fifties in RRG and J-Falls. Am I just being a wimp?

Yahoo weather says 46 both days and partly cloudy to sunny. Sounds great to me! The friction at DL should be pretty good for bouldering at those temp. Might get a little frigid at night but thats what campfires are for. I'm sure that the weather forecast will change by then so who knows. I only have Sat & Sun off so a roadtrip is out for me. If anyone else want to cahnge the location, thats fine by me but I'm leading to the lake regardless.

I don't think i could make a trip to jackson this weekend. I've gotta be in springfield to entertain a friend home from the marines. Possibly the week after that if people are interested in going. (my new gear has shipped and will get here tomorrow! :D

Well temps in wisconsin are now slated at a high of 40 for saturday and a high of 38 for sunday. Sorry guys but I am not coming to climb in that! Instead I will most likely be heading to Jackson falls on friday night and coming back sunday night. Temps there right now are high 50's and low 60's for saturday and sunday. Anyone else want to go?

Boo..

Actually, the weather is looking really good: 45 and party sunny (last time I checked anyway). But, like Chad said, that's perfect for bouldering around the lake. Heck, best day climbing I've ever had at the lake was 36 degrees out. It made things seem like, dare I say, there was friction. I'll definitely be there.. although, I won't be able to stay and camp Saturday night, or climb on Sunday. Have some things I have to take care of in Milwaukee.

So, I guess the real question here is, who's still planning on going? And, any idea where we should meet up? I'm guessing the north shore (far south) parking lot, but I'll keep it as an idea to get more discussion on it.
