well to tell ya the truth the drought has been pretty bad...but we have alot of snow this year.....we have plenty of water right now...in fact the valley has been the greenest its ever been since i have been here for the past 5 years. alot of people are questioning wether or not the water will be conssitant...alot of people think the snow pack is melting too fast. i guess it could be...but Snowbird still has 80 some inches of snow packed down right now for skiing and boarding....i can't say that leaveing your wife for the job is the best thing to do...if she was hell bent on staying and i was in your postition i would stay. but thats just me....i guess you would have to like climbing and working for black diamond alot more than your wife to pull that move. about the water though....i seriously doubt it will run out anytime soon...i mean this is a desert so there will alwasy be way less water than any where near georgia or florida has. its just dry here....and the water we do have is either salty...or cold as hell up in the mountains.

there is definitely some good climbing.....i guess its just up to you to decide wether or not you like SLC climbing enough to move away from your current climbing....and wether the job means more than your wife.

that about all i can tell ya...but if you chose to stay in georgia...SLC will still be here if ya want to come out and climb for a week or two.

keep in mind that just because you are considering moving to SLC for a job doesn't mean you have to move to the valley. park city wouldn't be that bad of a commute if you are working at black diamond. working for a company like bd always makes things easier because you have an instant pool of like minded individuals that are accessible. there are other great places to live like immigration canyon or big cottonwood canyon, the latter of which could be a longer more difficult commute in the winter. i guess it ultimately comes down to where you and your wife are at in life- do you have children, are you planning on that soon, is it important for you to have some land, what are your wife's interests and would she be able to pursue them here? for me raising children here would be a challenge. in terms of public education we get the least amount of money allocated per child out of all fifty states- shocking! there are some great private schools but very very expensive.

Have you come out here for a visit? Seems like regardless what you read about SLC you're waffleing on the idea. Since 30% of your life will be at work, that should be the #1 factor driving your decision. #2 is family. #3 the social, environmental and recreational circumstances YOU wish to have.

Utah: The only really sucky part of Utah is the inversions during Jan./Feb. As for the culture you make of it what you want.

I've been to all 50 states and choose Utah to live. Not because I'm Mormon but because ot the dozens of things that Utah offers other states can't. Examples:
-During a wind storm while I was at work my neighbor came over and flipped my trampoline and tied down my BBQ. No neighbor would do that in Virginia.
-Was short $1 and the register once and the guy behind me said "I'll cover ya".
-Skied Snowbird one day for 1/2 day and golfed in the afternoon.
-9 lakes or reservoirs withing 2 hours of SLC.
-Camped out at Fish lake (7000'ish) and caught 3 nice trout.
-Hikes through the High Uinta Wilderness Area.
-Trips to Zion's, Canyonlands, Moab, Lake Powell, and tons of areas for Canyoneering, hiking, kyaking, rafting, 4-wheeling, horse riding, etc.
-Hunting. If you'e into it at all UT is pretty good for it (except for squirrel, there are rednecks here but they don't get to eat squirrel).
-Vegas 5 hours away.

Pretty much unless what you want to do involves an ocean it can be done in UT. There is even a pretty strong SCUBA community here.

I've been there, spent some time in Moab and a few days in SLC. I know Utah is great for most everything outdoors. I guess it's not deciding if Utah is right, it's deciding if everything else is right. To be quite honest, the problem is Black Diamond. It's a big paycut and they won't fork out any money to relocate and that ain't cheap. I don't see going into more debt with less pay any kind of incentive to get there. Their response is "look at where you'll be livin". Well, I've worked long and hard to get where I am financially and I can't throw all that away even if it is BD.

So, thanks for all the input, but I think I'm stayin put in the Southeast for awhile longer.
