Anything Canadian....the occasional pisswater US beer is worth drinking every now and then.

"Geeeez, what is with the yuppies trying to pawn off micro-brew as something you are going to drag up a wall! " I have a difficult time thinking that "yuppy" beer is a bad thing?!? I'd rather drink something with substance than any piss-water beer :P !!! That is a waste of good energy (from the hand to the mouth motion). I guess over time you'll discover that and savour the flavor. Cheers, once again . . . Jules :D

In reply to: when I packed my daypack I took a can of beer (Tecate if you must ask) and paired it with an asceptic juice container (one of those little cartons) that I had frozen solid, and wrapped them together carefully inside my rain pullover. One of my favorite tricks involves freezing about 1/3 of the water supply for a big wall. The ice plus the insulation and padding for the haul bag gives me an ice chest that lasts for about two days, with absolutely no extra weight. An ice cold Sapporo Gold (which is malt liquor by the way, even if it is made in the US of A) is something to be treasured on a hot El Cap evening. I believe that the Heineken aluminum "keg" cans are also durable enough for wall duty, but that beer runs a little weak, and only comes in 12-oz. cans, which is inefficient packaging. Edited to make correction: Heineken does come in 24-oz. heavy duty aluminum cans now. Still weak and watery though. The ice allows me to take some "fridge foods" on the wall as well. Brutus

scubasnyder has got it! on a wall nothing beats a stout beeer-they are meant to be drank warm (try it, infinitely better that way compared to cold) AND they save all the hassle of packing and cooking dinner-a few stouts give you both a meal and a beer all in one. though you gotta import those directly from britain, cause even the guiness sold in this country is like "having sex in a canoe, fucking close to water"! piss water at that!
