The notches are primarily for catching larger loads, longer falls or using smaller ropes.
Joe

I can't think of how many times my leader has been involved in a longer fall, giving me enough time to switch my Belay Device orientation.

Not really.
I use my XP through the grooves exclusively, but I'm tipping the scale at 170lbs lately. On skinny-line double-rope raps, it's necessary. On fatter single line raps I'll set a biner brake and use a single cord to rap on.

But thats just me.

My thoughts exactly. Except for rapping, when it depends on circumstances.

Jim,
I think you have had enough of an opportunity to voice your opinions of madrock (the user and the brand). I had a little more respect for you before you began carrying out your little agenda. Don't lose your credabilty by hunting down the Reds amoung us. By now we are all aware of what is going on, and have formed our own opinions.

So, should I assume that either homosexuality is your sexual preference, hence the comment...or that your just a biggot?

Good to see your starting a membership here with something useful.

Thanks everyone, for weighing in with your opinions over a week after my last post. Quite helpful, really! Seems like you all decided to add some fuel to the fire your saying should get put out....makes sense.

This thread reverted to discussion about the belay device, until you all decided that your opinions of me were worth posting about, and thus turned this thread back into a flame-fest.

Considering that things had died down, the only reason I can see for posting the above comments was to beat your chests a little on the internet. Way to go!

Next time, look at the dates on posts before you cry for an end that has already arrived.

Jim

Sorry jim, I just assumed you were a catcher with all the whining you've been doing.

As for your assumption, some of my best friends are as queer as a $3 bill and I've turned more than one woman into a lesbian.

Oh and it's Bigot not biggot.

Jim, you can do whatever you want behind close doors. It's no ones buisness butt you and your partner. Sorry if I offended.

Madrock, hows about sending me one of those belay devices.

OMG, laughing so hard I almost spewed.

I will attest to Larry (areyoumydude) being both Hetro. (not that there's anything wrong with that) and a kick-ass climber. Send us both one please. Please note we have different addresses and we do not live together. :P

I would also like to point out just for the other witch-hunt thread that Larry use to work at a gear store and is a confessed slackliner. Please don't hold that against him and hustle them devices right over:-).

Thank you to everyone who got productively involved, I am looking forward to some feedback after the devices arrive.

I'd be more interested in what they think of them after they've used them for:

    2wks
    6wks
    6mos
    12mos
than what they think of the packaging.

In reply to:
We will continue to try and involve the members of rockclimbing.com in testing and some fun contests despite the continued harassment by a few members with personal issues.

So, let me see... that means you'll quit harassing members with unresolved personal issues, rather than dealing with them in a straightforward manner? My opinion of you may yet change, if you'll put your $$ where your foot once was.

In reply to:
Please PM me with any feedback on the device.

Mad Rock

Actually, since you've already involved us all in this brou-ha-ha, why don't y'all who get the devices just post up right here on this thread? I would be interested in the following information:

Did the product arrive in a timely manner?

Were the instructions clear and easy to read? (and in 10 languages? )

Does the device perform as promised?

Did the device perform as expected?

    How was the device used?

    How many pitches/raps were performed?

What size rope were you using?

Did it feed easily when belaying a leader?

Was it easy to control descent speed on rap?

Did you catch any falls with the device?

What would you expect to pay retail for such a device?

If you had to send the device back to mad rock now that you are finished evaluating it, would you go out and purchase your own?

60 degrees? I don't think I could give up our 40 degrees and raining every day to go where its warm and dry.

My bananna slug buddies would miss me too much!

Take care and Merry Christmas:

In high friction mode, yes. In low friction mode, no.

However, I've only used it with my 7.7 mm twins so far.
