For all the programmers out there...
In reply to: Real Programmers don't play tennis, or any other sport which requires you to change clothes. Mountain climbing is OK, and Real Programmers wear their climbing boots to work in case a mountain should suddenly spring up in the middle of the computer room. - Tom Van Vleck, Real Programmers Don't Write Specs
In reply to: If climbers used the word "beta" they way most software houses do, we'd all be dead.
In reply to: Welcome to the employee rock-climbing seminar. You'll learn valuable teamwork skills by doing dangerous things unrelated to your jobs. - Dilbert (Aug 3 1997)
In reply to: The first in a series of challenging, thrilling and dangerous outdoor adventure games that lets kids experience the realism, excitement and achievement of going Beyond the Limit. Ultimate Climb lets kids experience the thrill and challenge of a real mountain climbing adventure. — Excerpt from the cover of the Microsoft game Beyond the Limit: Ultimate Climb' uh, right. Thank you, Micro$oft....

In reply to: In reply to: definitely in my top 10 of pet peeves... people who quote themselves on forums... especially in their signature... Look at the link under "ahem", chances are he wasn't even quoting himself... "Every man dies. Not every man really lives" - Mel Gibson in Braveheart

My boyfriend this summer while climbing Assembly Line at the Tower in a torrential downpour: "I'm out of cams and my nuts are too small!!" Putting his fear and danger aside, this really made us laugh at the belay station...as well as the guys that had just finished rapping below it.

You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know. Rene Daumal My father considered a walk among the mountains as the equivalent of churchgoing. Aldous Huxley

"I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating Crackers, even if Crackers was her dog." Oh, I guess these quotes are supposed to have something to do with climbing eh? Oh well. It's cold out and rock quotes just aren't helping to warm me up.

Ken, it's not about how many tens you've led, it's about how many 5.10 leaders you've laid. Bev Johnson (From Climbing Free) Me: (muttering under my breath) "Valley 10c, wtf? scary moves and no gear." Sevve: (Loudly) "I can see commitment from here." Me: "Cheeky Bastard." When I came down it was explained to me that "Commitment" is a route on a wall he could see.

"Climb up there and set up a top rope. I'll check your set-up when your done." - my first climbing mentor. (There was no "easy way" to the anchors, just the route itself. And I didn't know anything about leading.)
