my family has a history of diabetes, and heart disease, in fact, 5 of my 6 siblings have diabetes. the big commonality is........they're all over weight. my younger brother and i are not!! i also have cataracts which put me in the risk for diabetes. my brother just had quadruple bypass..........living the trucker lifestyle, overwieght and smoker!!!!
oh and type 2 runs through my family too. my cousin was diagnosed at the age of 2. seems to be managing it.
why the hell are you giving yourself such a limited time frame?

Oh the diabetes isn't what's limiting me but it is factor. I take very good care of my diabetes; in fact my doctor has me do talks with new diabetics to show them how active people can properly take care of their disease. While some of you may like to say I'm fat, I'm not. I'm just a big muscular guy.
The thing is that diabetics, even when we manage our disease great; are five times more likely to suffer from stroke and heart disease. Combine that with a history on both sides of my family of serious stroke and heart disease and I'm in the range of 35 times more likely to suffer one of those.
Sure I'm taking care of myself, eating right, exercising, and on preventive medication for these circulatory problems but I according to my doctors I have around a 75% chance of suffering major stroke or heart attack by the time I'm 50.
I mean it's not like I'm all doom and gloom thinking the day turn 50 life is over. I just have a realistic outlook on my future and pay very close attention to my heath so that I can head off any potential problems before they can kill me.
