Wow, i just read through all the pages of this thread and the one thing that really sticks out to me is the following: are you guys really climbing at places that are so crowded that a dog on a short leash annoys you. quite honestly if i get to a crag that is so full that i actually have to watch out not to trip over someone elses stuff i just leave and go to another one. But anyways - we recently got a dog, a newfoundland puppy, she is still small at 30lbs, but will grow to be about 100lbs. We have only taken her climbing once so far, but she is doing really well Her mother is a sweety that goes along to the crag all the time and she just finds herself a place away from all the commotion and goes to sleep until her owners come back. But one thing I have learned as a notorious people hater is the following - it doesn't matter if it's kids, or dogs, or loud music or whatever.... it's never the kids, dog, boombox' fault but always the people that bring them to the crag. Get real people - dogs are not the nuisance, it's their owners, the same people that leave their TP, cigarette butts, trash etc every where, step on your rope while walking by, and almost kill their partners cause they can't belay worth a damn. - what the hell is wrong with people these days, just because we have more lawyers than one country can support doesn't mean common sense needs to go out the window - if there is space for a dog and you don't risk other people's, your, or your dogs health and sanity, bring him. If the approach is steep, you plan to do a 10 pitch trad climb, or there is a million people trying to get on route, leave the rascal at home
