Yeah, g/f has to have other interests but I'd forgive her if her only interests were climbing and me.

It isn't just a issue for guys, it is way better for climbing girls-in my oppinion- to have a climbing boyfriend than non-climbing one!! My ex boyfriend didn't climb, therefore I climbed less and kind of felt bad spending days away climbing. Now I have a climbing boyfriend and it is great!! Nobody can challenge me as much as he does! :D

Reaching the summit with your spouse is awesome: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/showphoto.php?photo=1172&sort=1&cat=all We've done a lot of large peaks and committing climbs in the North Cascades and South America. We've survived some real epics, which brought us together. It is reassuring to know that under great pressure and fear that we could still communicate and cooperate. However, one thing I've become more aware of is that if disaster struck, our abilities to help one another are not equal. I could carry and manage a descent of her 125lb a lot easier than she could handle my 185lb. Now that we have an 8 month old son the prospect of alpine and ice climbing seems a little unsettling. I think we'll continue to climb but probably in a more conservative manner. I'm looking forward to teaching The Dude how to climb. If he ever free solo's however he's grounded for life.

This is a tricky question. i've only dated one climber. All the rest were guys who didnt understand my need to be on the rock several times a week. It didnt work out. The reality is that as a girl climber that its hard to date someone whos Not a climber for several reasons: no matter how hot you are off the rock, on it you are sweaty and generally ungirly. Your fingeres are callused and your toes are never pretty because you cram them into climbing shoes constantly. All my friends are guys becasue of my hobbies, non climber are intimidated by this when you leave them to go on trips with other guys. I pretty much Live in my climbing pants and flip flops. Only climbers appriciate these things.

I think this is party a function of what kind of person you are too. Some people are -sit at the bottom of the crag and smoke a doobie -partners and others are serious -take me out and challange me everytime-climbers. I've climbed with lots of girls and I tend to want to climb with someone who challanges me and accepts challanges from me. If I just want a girl who's going to tag along, belay and chill, thats easy- my moms done that with me.

Yes, climbing girls are hot. I would love to have one as a mate. I wouldn't mind it a bit if she climbed way harder than I do. That just means I would improve fatser. It happens when you climb with someone better than you. But, she would need to be patient and let me get my wimpy leads in too, and be into trad climbing once in a while. No ,"oh, that hurts my hands I prefer sport, but I will belay you". Sorry, but I need multipitch trad. That said, I have never ask a climber chick out, because I figure they have plenty of offers (I mean how can't they), and I don't think climbing at the gym or the rock is a singles bar, you know. All the girls that are saying it hard for them to find a climbing guy, sorry but I just don't believe it, well becuase most I know are attached. One of the best climbing partners I had was a chick. She climbed harder than me and she was hot, and yes she was attched. She had the sexiest boddy I ever seen. Oh, and for the swetty dirty non girly comment, there is just something sexy about that to me. As long as you take a shower when you get home its all good. I like low maintenance. This is Just my opinion, I am probably wrong as usual. Ken

Hey Locker...what other kinda interests? Actually my favorite thing is to climb with my bf when he can. I wish it was more, but he is busy raising his teenage son and I know you can relate to that. So can I, but I get to be irresponsible every other weekend at least. To me, sharing interest like climbing/skiing/cycling etc with your significant other is icing on the cake. You just have to be sure it's your favorite kinda cake that you're icing.

DAMN IT!!! Will some other spelling nazi moderator put me out of my misery and fix the subject line to read "girls that ARE climbers?" I give up my wings and this is the thanks I get? Days and days of "r" on the front page? R is NOT a word. Maybe in your pre-adolescent test-messaging world, "R" is a word, but "are" is a word. If pronounced properly, it even SOUNDS differently than the letter "r." Are you that lazy you can't type two extra letters? TWO! TWO!!!!! ::falls onto the ground, shaking in paroxysms.::

In reply to: If I just want a girl who's going to tag along, belay and chill, thats easy- my moms done that with me. Your mom has gone climbing with you? That's really cool, even if she is just belaying. I'll bet she's extra good on the belay too, watchin' over her kid and all. I wonder how many other climbers could get their mom to do that for them. I know mine wouldn't. She doesn't even want to think about what I'm doing when I go climbing.

Ok I can't keep silent any longer. Seems like alot of you guys are pining away for a girl climber but really don't know how to go about getting one. Can I offer some advice from a female perspective? I have read many times that you want a hot climber chick that already climbs hard. I think maybe you are being a bit unrealistic and limiting your selves, hence making it harder to end up with that climber gal. Relatively speaking there are not that many females that climb hard already. There are several major reasons for this. Why not broaden your scope and befriend a gal that has never climbed or one that is still learning? Alot of females could use some encouragement when first trying climbing. This first time I tried rock was when I was taking a basic climbing class and we had to do it in our big mountaineering boots. It scared the crap out of me and I sucked. I didn't try it again untill 2 years later when I took a rock climbing class with rock shoes. I would have loved it if when I was in my 20's a guy had introduced me to rock climbing. I didn't even know what it was then! Once I completed the rock climbing class I was excited to keep going but I could not find a female partner. There are very few female climbers out there that are willing to mentor other females. You have to get milage on the rock to get any good. Look you had to spend lots of time climbing with your male buddies right? The only reason I'm not a 5.12 climber is I haven't gotten the time on the rock. The desire is there. I have met alot of guys that are willing to take me climbing a time or two but none that were willing to spend the time mentoring me. Also you know some of the nicest girls may not be real athletic and assertive, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't be good climbers if given the chance. Just my 2 cents.

In reply to: it would be great if she'd like to backcoutry ski too......... Or at least attempt to learn.... :o  Hey Hacksaw, I just got introduced to Backcountry skiing once last winter. I didn't even know what it was before that. Anyway I loved it. I didn't even know how to downhill. (All I had ever done is some piddly cross country skiing.) I went and bought a randonae set (skins too) and took a bunch of downhill lessons. But what do you think my chances are of finding a guy to take me out skiing this winter? I'd say slim to none because I'm still learning. My point is why don't you find a gal that you like and introduce her to your sport. Patience, a willingness to mentor and being a gentleman will go a long ways.

I taught her, married her and ended up divorced from her.(the divorce had nothing to do with the skiing stuff)... :( Yes, I can be very willing to teach. That's what I do for a living :D It would just be nice to not have to always start at square one for a change.

My daughter and I do multipitch together whenever we can, although we're both pretty new to it. I admit that it's hard to watch her sometimes on hairier stuff (even sport) but I'm thrilled to see her go get it..... my parents wouldn't ever let me do anything remotely dangerous, and I make up for it. :D What better way to get close than to hang on belay? As for significant others that don't climb, if mine didn't HE'd get left home a lot.

Well yes it would be nice it if one did not have to start over at square one with lots of things. But life seems to have a way of throwing that at us more than once. Sorry your efforts didn't work out for you the first time. All I'm saying is there is the ideal of what we are all looking for, then there is reality.

I met the most sweet nice trad climbing girl at the Seneca chili cookoff this weekend. We were suppost to run into each other Sunday on the east face but it never happened. She told me that she needed new Seneca partners. What a perfect setup to give her my number!! And I didn't do it cause I thought I'd see her later!!! Ah man I suck. :(
