Juice, The Damned & I climbed at Woodland today (Friday)

Warning: New big yellow posted signs are at the parking area to go in from above. The Damned felt he couldn't park under them, as his license number was on file with them from the summer before.

I knew a place along Decker Creek to park, and we hiked up from the bottom. A bit overgrown.

This was dedicated to the Pope I love.

Hot, sunny, the rock was clean and crisp. Awesome day; I'm so trashed.

Mike Varlotta & I climbed at Cumberland today. The rock was perfect, and I was climbing much much better.

The clouds came in to rescue a hot day.

Life is too short to climb with pain in the ass partners.

Anyway, this makes 3 climbing days in the last four. I am so tired, and must rest.

Went to the New with Layne (thewyseclimber) and Mark. Got quite a bit of climbing done between showers and under overhangs at Endless (that wall really dries pretty quickly).

Was such a beautiful day, the routes were only wet deep inside the holds.

Heck, I probably wouldn't be climbing at all if it wasn't for Bill! He taught me so much. Skill just doesn't lie in climbing 5.12.

Perhaps we invite the security guards out for a day of climbing and get them addicted Cool

Excelent idea. We invite them to climb with us and slip hillbilly heroin into their Nalgalene bottles. Seriously though, I see there being some problems out there this summer. My co-workers' dad is a VP there and gave him the heads up about increased inforcement (he doesn't climb, he hunts there). The new no trespassing signs are the 1st hint of the trouble to come. I also heard that someone has been night -climbing there. Headlamps are visable from the road. Please use night-vision goggles instead.

I just spoke to a client who is a foreman @ Greer. They are doing the following:
1. Posting all area's as no trespassing.
2. Fining/prosecuting ALL tresspassers. (even if you know DanWink)
3. Hiring an individual to chop all bolts. (he asked if I was interested in doing this, I'm not)
4. Making it well known that woodlands is off limits.
5. Make an example of someone. He said the next person caught climbing there is gonna get nailed....HARD!!!
6. Continued enforcement. They have done this before and then backed off. Not this time.
7. Boobie traps. Everywhere.

I asked him to keep me updated and I'll update all of you as I hear stuff. Anyone have spare millions laying around and wanna buy Greer?

I'm jealous... must quit my job...

I'm curious about this River's End Crag as it doesn't sound like something you'd find in PA. Where is it near? I'm assuming its in the Connellsville area as thats where most of the ones you posted are.

The only issue that I'm aware of at Breakneck is parking. I'm still pretty unsure where the preferred place to park is.

It looks like the house at the trailhead has some residents now (didn't seem to when I first went there) so they probably won't be too happy if we park in front of their driveway.

A little bit up from the trailhead (left) looks like its still the best option.

The best parking at Breakneck is to make the right turn after the last house on the left, (right after the road turns to gravel). Park in the small lot if available. If not park in that area. NOT up by the access trail near the stream. That used to be okay, but there are quite a few more people than back in the days when there was about 5 of us climbing there. Now with the crowds, please be considerate and park lower down where I mentioned above. Relations are still good between us climbers and the locals, lets keep it that way. Hope this helps...

Tim

Thanks Tim. Now I just have to hope I don't get lost again. Last time my wife & sister got dragged through the woods b/c I missed the trail up to the rocks. I really like Breakneck b/c after we get to go to my grandparents and eat sammywiches.

Micro trip report:
Spent an incredible sunny day at Rivers End Crag (Day 3). Working new lines and pumping my arms into oblivion. Made progress on the new line I've been throwing myself at. Completed it with one hang on TR. I know sounds pathetic, but its progress. Trying to get used to the steepness and endurance. I'm having a great time at this new place. Its refreshing to get on a new "cliff" around here. Especially one with features unlike most of the other crags around. Plentiful overhangs with forearm zapping power (at least to me). I think this one will be popular. Wait til Y'all see it in person. Hope there's some interest. Curious? Want to go? Get in touch. Weather is looking good all week long. Hope everyone is out pullin' down.

The '08 rock season is underway and Dale Gribble said it best - WINGO!

Not sure what it's called...still haven't seen it.
Also, anyone heading to Coopers I will be up there most days around 4-5pm if you need a catch or tour. Just PM me before 2 or so and I'll let you know if I can make it.

Some beta for McConnells mill.
For those who sometimes turn off Route 19 in Portersville and drive in the back way to the Mills, be advised that the road from the Cheesemen's Campground to the Mill is closed. The other turn off point from Route 19 and Route 422 are fine.
Looks like things are going to be wet for awhile. It is raining now.Mad

Anybody wanna' check out a few photos from the 'Rivers End Crag', go to www.wildfilmproductions.com, then to the 2008 News/Info page - photos are at the bottom of the page. Referenced for now as 'Youghiogheny River Gorge', 'till all the exploring is done - understand that another wall or two, just as big or bigger, has turned up.
