Will someone please explain to me why some climbers wear beanies? I climbed the other day, it was 90+ degrees, and this guy would intermittently wear this woolley looking thing on his head. I've seen this in the gym also, when climate was not an explanation. I understand fashion is probably a big factor, but come on, do these folks actually look in the mirror and say to themselves, "wow, there is one sharp looking dude"? Maybe those of you out there that know the utility of the beanie, could post pictures of yourself, donning your favorite beanie and an award could be given to the sharpest beanie headed climber.

When you're a prick, you have to cover your head to be safe.

What I've always wondered is how it can be simultaneously too hot for a shirt, but cold enough for the wool beanie.

Easy, want to keep the hands sweat free and stop the body getting over hot'n'sweaty, but not wanting to actually get cold. you lose a lot of heat through your head, wel maybe not you...

The size and color of the beanie weighs in direct relation to the ability of the climber. You, sir, obviously haven't hit the level where wearing a beanie is paramount to your sending ability.

Beanie has lots of year-round uses. It allows the wearer to go for extended periods of time without hair washing. It is a great way to always carry with you a piece of cloth that could be used to mop up wet holds, wipe off unidentifiable bodily fluids, chalk, etc. It can be used as a hanky substitute, and to keep the sweat from dripping into your eyes. In a pinch it could be worn by a chemotherapy patient... As to wearing one in the gym... well, how else would you let people know that you are gnarly rad climber who climbs outside all the time?

Now the headband might make sense. Especially if it had gear loops.
