yeah, he is going to be hurting. It takes a whole lot of force to break a scapula... like a whole lot. I wouldn't be too apprehensive about internal fixation(the cutting and pinning), as the orthos, while they may be glorified carpenters, are pretty good at fixing broken shit.
The good news is that while you will have to shell out for insurance, the driver's estate will likely be shelling out for much more. Think about the pain and suffering clauses.
Tell him your internet friends say to enjoy the percocet and not to drink more than 3-4 beers at a clip while recovering...
