I'm not so concerned with race as I am with poverty.

Too bad the criteria for Affirmative Action is based on genetics, instead of circumstances.

In reply to: Too bad the criteria for Affirmative Action is based on genetics, instead of circumstances. I think there are 2 different issues here. Certainly poverty limits opportunities for anyone, regardless of race. But even if you solve poverty, there will still be racial discrimination. Take 2 people at the bottom of the economic ladder, one black and one white. I contend that the white person will have an easier time lifting themselves up. I think a lot of small businesses, where many blue collar jobs reside, are owned by guys that you could affectionately refer to as Bubba. Many Bubbas, especially in the South, are not inclined to hire blacks.

In reply to: Many Bubbas, especially in the South, are not inclined to hire blacks. That's a harsh stereotype that race-baiters like to promote. Doesn't have much to do with reality.

Actually, I made that statement, based on my experiences in SC and NC. The Bubba in question was rhetorical. Have you been to any hog farms? A lot of blacks work on them? Hiring is based on work ethic, not skin color. What exactly do you consider "your south"?
