I was 30. I really wish I'd taken that class my dad tried to talk me into when I was 18. Dammit! I could been a contender. Now I'm just happy to get up a 10a alive.

13/14 somewhere inbetween there, but i've always been a climber at heart. As a little kid i climbed everthing, trees, cars, and even started buildering. When i played with Lego's i would make a lego cliff and make my action figures climb it

In reply to: We really need a climber chick rendevous..... Hell yeah! But I have the strange feeling that it would be co-sponsored with the first male stalking gathering nearby. Something about the sheer possibility of a climbing chick pajama party. We should hold it in Rocky Mountain National Park. Enough variety of climbing for all, and centrally located. Course, i could be biased. :D

I'm serious. We should do it. Who cares if there would be some stalkers lurking on the fringes. So what? Like they've never seen a bunch of ripped, hard, drunk, climber chicks having a pillow fight in their panties.... Who can organize such a thing? Unless you all want to fly into St. Louis (and I know you don't), someone else has got to take the lead. A location that is easy to fly to is preferable. I'll change my pillowcase right now to get prepared....

I don't really know, but I have a neon green and hot pink chalk bag which probably came out of the late '80's/ early '90's. I bought it when I first started and i'm 19 now. Judging from that I was probably 8 or nine years old when I started.

Toddler I reckon. Like most children I had to be told NOT to climb. I didn't do that to my kids. Trees, barns, what have you. Boulders too. Roped climbing at 13. Most humans are climbers. We are descended from climbers. It is a perfectly natural thing to do. Ever notice how pleasing, or um, fitting (?) it is to hold a branch or a stick in your hand? That isn't an accident you know. People like to ask the stupid... 'why climb?' A more apt question is why not climb. DMT

Eeee gawd: 28 years ago at the age of 15. My interest has been low the last couple of years due to a growing interest in cycling, but I'm getting excited again about the rock. I've got a big route (for me) planned for this summer: Red Dihedral on the Incredible Hulk. Can't wait! Scott

Since the first tree I ever climbed, probably age 3-4. I remember going to the gym on my 14th B-day for an intro course and thinking my rock star climbing instructor was cool - but didn't really have the patience to climb formally. I aways new I was a climber though - in grade 9 I thought I'd impress the lady's by ascending two floors and climbing in through the window for the start of my computer exam. Once they all started watching me my finger tips started to sweat and therefore slip - sheesh! Good thing I landed on a collapsable table hehe, I still get reminded of that one from time to time. Started seriously training when I was 21.

My various family members started me technical climbing (after hiking and scrambling) Let's see. The Vertical Club started about '86/'87 I think, so I must have been about 5 then when my aunt taught me to belay. My grandpa taught me ice axe basics about age 7. I learned to lead sport climbs about 12. Now 22 and trying to remember how to do everything, plus learn trad and go climb some more mountains. My grandpa stopped climbing, my aunt moved away, and I had a lengthy love affair with speed that only my mountain bike could fulfill. Self-sufficiency is awesome: Buying a rope, six quickdraws, and a car changed my life :D

I started when I was about 9. I got serious about when I was twelve, and began using the money i made off allowance and pet sitting (oh, the memories) to buy a rope, a harness, an atc and carabiner, climbing shoes, and some webbing and carabiners.

I started about four months ago and I'm hooked. The biggest thing that has shocked me about climbing is how you all are to except in new people. I can go the gym any day of the week and partner up with someone. I'm not sure if you all just have cabin fever and are willing to climb with anyone during these winter months, or its genuine. I hope you all are like this on the crags. I know someone is going to take a shot at the "you all" comment.

Well, i started when i was 7 at my dad's buisiness' party on a portable wall that i climbed all day until i got it. Then at 9 i climbed another portable wall at another 1 of my dad's business' partys. Then i moved to saratoga, CA at 10 and went to REI every week on thursday while i was 10 for the year pretty much unless they closed it, other plans, etc. and we only got to do 2 climbs. Then i started to go to Planet Granite on and off, then they closed the wall at REI for a year so i dint go climbing that year at all, and now im in 7th grade at 12 years old and i am doing it for serious for 2 months now every week at Touchstone San Jose (Bouldering only). And there is my climbing career so far. P.S. i gave you all of this cuz i started climbing again and again every time but now im hooked for good.

I grew up in south Mississippi. For those of you that don't know the geography, THERE'S NO ROCK! However, I was born to climb. I split my chin at 3 or 4 yo climbing the shelves in my closet. I was forever on top of buildings and swingsets, or swinging in the trees. National Geographic and TV got me interested in rock, and in high school, trips around the country got me hooked. I'm now 30, live in Tennessee, and have passed the climbing gene on to my 3 kids.

always loved climbing, never really had the opportunity to do it often until about a year ago at age 17. I had climbed indoors a couple times and outdoors a few times, but I had never climbed anything challenging outside until last fall. What's even better is after I graduate Highschool this year I'm going to a college in West Virginia near NRG woohoo!!

I started climbing when I started walking. I would climb anything. I started formally "rock" climbing when I was 15 or 16.

Started scrambling around back home in the Adirondacks in my teens. Took my first class and learned the ropes  at 30. Carter was prez! Climbed only sporadically after that. Now, pushing 60, I am doing it more than I ever did before and wishing I had all those years of little activity back :!:

I think I was 15 or 16. I remember going to Eldorado Canyon and paying some old guy with a cigar box, 50 cents to go climbing there. Walking across the old telephone pole bridge scared me more then the climbing did.

I'm 26, and I've just started climbing this month. After a great evening of climbing some crags yesterday, I can honestly say this gumby-arsed nOOb is now horribly, horribly addicted. And here's more trips planned for the weekend? :D

In reply to: I'm serious. I'll change my pillowcase right now to get prepared.... i love this idea...I will organize that stalker party
