After selling several of my older cams last week at the Black Diamond gear-swap in Salt Lake City, I purchased 6 new C4 camalots to supplement the medium section of my rack. I’ve only had them a week, but have already fallen in love. Has anyone else been having a positive experience with the new C4s? Anyone else picking some up later this spring?

I think all in all the redesign was great! The only thing that I don't like about them is the sling that's on them. Every once in a while it gets cought up in the upper portions of the oval and crosses over the stem. I haven't had a real problem with it but if your leading at your limit I can see how this could start to be a real pain in the ass.

A solution to this I think would be to sling them line aliens are slung.

The nice thing about the new slings are they actually give an extra inch or two in certain aid placements I've found which is really nice.

All in all I really like the new designs and a sling isin't going to make or break them for me. You can always resling them to your own liking.

The question I'd like to ask is; Has anyone had a negative experience with the new C4's?

Nothing but positive here. I've had them for a few months now and have used them a lot for aid and trad. I love the thumb loop for ease of placement and for the extra inches when aid climbing! Really great redesign!

The reply to your question should have been, "I have never had an experience which was not positive."

Is that not better?

no problems with mine either. i've got one of each from .5 to a #4 and love them all. i took a 15 footer on my #1 yesterday and it did its job perfectly. i can't find anything to complain about. other than i wish they were cheaper so i could afford more of them

one of my C4's got benched from action on friday due to a strange problem with the cam lobes....its sort of funky to describe exactly whats wrong with it- but the gist is this: the cam has shifted on its axles, causing the springs on one side to compress, rendering the lobes on that side non-functional (they retract, but stick in the retracted position...)

i've contacted BD and will hopefully receive info on repair/replacement soon.

other than that, they're great (see pk's original post for their only real drawback)....

If you're gonna play at being a grammar nazi then a preposition isn't something you should end a sentence with

A sentence ending in a preposition is an abomination up with which I will not put!

nope, love them, two sets up to #4, and one 5! No problems, no complaints...well, one..my trigger wires catch the cam lobes when you contract them, i need to bend them back out of the way. I love these cams though!

Did this problem develop over time, or the result of a fall?

FWIW, I think the new camalots are significantly better than the old ones. Feel nicer in the hand, some of which is the thumb loop, and some the lighter weight.

actually, it happened spontaneously, almost literally overnight- one day it was fine, the next, not working so good- i've never dropped it, and i've never fallen on it. i have some thought that it may have occurred in a chimney thrash or something of the like, but that seems unlikely because my climbing style/habits havent changed since i acquired the cam.

i'm still waiting to hear from BD...hopefully they'll have some answers. I'm a huge BD whore, though, so regardless, i'm still a fan- i consider this nothing but a fluke.

Hosh.

We grammar police are not Nazi but merely authoritarian. When so gross a violation as using a nominative interrogative pronoun as the object of a preposition occurs, we must, of course, state how to correct this grievous violation lest it corrupt the entire rc.com website.

The issue of what to end a sentence with, or what a to a sentence by, or even where to end a sentence at, is a subject of differing opinions as expressed by those who such things care about.

The repair is to whack it against the palm of your hand a few times on the side where the lobes will retract. This will slide it back down to the middle of the axle.

Used a buddies number 1 last weekend in Josh, seemed very nice.

One slightly silly question. Is the length from where your thumb contacts the loop to where your fingers wrap the trigger shorter than the old design? Later in the day I was cleaning the number 1 (it had walked a bit) and it seemed like I had to get my hand in deeper into the crack to clean than I would have with the old design.

Rob, are you bored.

When I get bored I get naked and have a sexy female take pictures of my gear. Intant cure.

On topic: I've decided to never own a C4, their existance pisses me off. The only unique (necessary) piece in the BD line was the #4. Everything else could be done with the cheaper and lighter Friends. Now the 4 is all screwed up, it's too small, the 5 is too big. You need both. Those proprietary bastards.

i wish. i had to use a screwdriver to fix it the first time it happened, but its decided to be persistent in its desire to be broken...i'm leaving it to BD on this one...
