Hi all,

I'm Mick's current climbing partner. Though I have never met any of you, you can count me in if its cool with all of you. I am more than willing to contribute some money for the group fund once we know where we are going, an I know I can make it. Californai might be a little hard for the wife to swallow.

ice climbing? hahaha. that's cute. you've got my one and only ice climbing experience. ;)

as for two parties, as much as i like the idea, i doubt that i'll be able to afford that many flights. flying to the east is generally pretty expensive, and i already have one trip planned for the summer, so i dont know if i'd be able to afford two flights to the east and another to the west in the spring, and trying to herd a group of cats for two trips within a year might be difficult. hell, it's taken how many years for us to plan another get together?

what about everyone else? is taking a trip in the fall and another in the spring very realistic?

grant, how long will you be taking off work for rumney? trust me, there's not much ice in jtree, but there's plenty of rock for two trips. (engagement and wedding parties)

mick, what happened to you, buddy. what does your ability to make it to lax look like?

anybody else still in touch with woodse and crew? beerandblood? jeepmonkey? ravenswing? fo_d? krustyklimber?

ravenswing_jim...
is living in Salem, doing construction.
I hear from him occasionally. jeep, moved to san Clemente, and bought a house, and was engaged...or by now married.

krusty...
no idea.

Familiar names... hazy memories... I know what most of the people in this thread look like, but I've never been much for talking in large gatherings. I'm fairly certain I've met fiend somewhere before though. I also recall blue toenails and "froo froo drinks" but that might have something to do with my Friday night alter ego as a cross-dress... uh, please disregard that.

It's odd reading 'bout people planning to jet off here and there for possible gatherings, and now I'm wondering where I'll be during this upcomming year. So far late July and early August will see me to the Gunks, HP40, Rumney, and others. After that I'll have no more ride, so I think I'm just going to start walking west. Maybe I'll make it out and meet up with some of y'all, but so far the plan is to run out of money in Nebraska and starve to death in some random gutter.

Tired... what am I talking about?

kris, if you can make it a little further west, you can die in our gutter. boulder has LOTS of homeless people.

i meant, um, colorado has really great climbing, so you should come out here. we're poor too. you can join us. we'd love to have you! we'll even share the bop-it. :)

Had to put off the NRG gathering and I might have to put off the Old Geezers gathering, both due to work circumstances, but this gathering will be late enough in the year to make it. As before, I can help out in some way for those who are having trouble getting there, but where is there?? Doesn't look like there is a destination yet or a date …

Well... Colorodo ain't no Nebraska, but be on the lookout for a haggard homeless man wearing a halcyon hoodie this fall.

I most likely won't be able to climb no matter where we go in the fall, so it gets harder to justify to the wife the further away it is. I probably won't be able to make it further west than Colorado, so if it's in J-Tree, my chances will be slim even if the timing worked out so I didn't have to work. Besides, it would probably kill me to be in J-Tree, a climber's mecca, and not be able to climb; that will probably be a once-in-a-lifetime destination and to go when I'm not in good climbing condition would just invite disaster as I would try to climb anyway and risk rupturing the repair they just did on my shoulder.

If it were closer, or if a second gathering were put together in the east, it would be easier to justify going to see everyone, even if I can't climb. I won't completely rule it out, but if it's in Cali, my chances are slim at best. Sorry to be a downer guys - I really do want to see you all again.

Amber: the Rumney gathering is on a long weekend so I should be there for three days at least. I hope to be there longer if possible though just as I have each of the previous three. Things are far off and uncertain at this point though.

~T~ yes I see : robert : but you don't fool me with all that eye fluttering young madame. Well at least not this time but I think that's how all the "blue" started, isn't it?

Well time to burst the bubble I'm afraid. After five pages of posting and years of mini reunions, I think we have to admit the truth on this. It's just not going to happen. People are too spread out and after five pages we haven't even figured out whether to meet in the east or the west, never mind which crag. Even the timing only came as close as a number of folks expressing a desire to meet in the "fall". That narrows it down to September - October - November
If it came down to fall in the west, I simply can't do it. As for next spring, that's a year away yet and we haven't finished this spring even. Just like Mick, I would love to have a reunion with all of you but this party seems to have flopped. I hope to keep meeting up with folks as time goes on but for the purposes of this thread, I'm going to end it here and give my official....

I'm out :(

If things change and someone actually gets a date and place then send me an e-mail.
For now - Ciao freaks

I say we have an engagement party in the fall, I'm not too sure about the holiday schedule, but late-sept/early-oct would mean good temps for anyone putting the effort into traveling and wanting to get some quality sending in. This could be combined with the Rumney gathering (most of the old crew show up at that anyways) or take place at the RRG (mmmm Miguels).

Party two should be before/during/after the actual wedding for those who Robert and T want to show up.

Some of us can only do East, some only West, some both. This way we can try to make whichever gathering is most convenient and still get to see MOST of the old friends we haven't seen in a bit.

Either that or we meet in Colorado and sleep on Amber's couch.

What's cracking folks...

Here's the schpeal...

I'd be stoked to have the "fall" gathering (October is best)...somwhere back East. Concidering that fact that I've never lived on the East Coast, I'm going to have to rely on some of you folks to assist with destinations. Something to keep in mind: one of my life's goals is to step foot in all 50 states. I've been through most of the North East...but not the East/South East. So any help there would be great.

Next...the wedding will be held in Joshua Tree...likely sometime around the (5th?) annual gathering. We'll be taking a couple of weeks off to climb afterwards.

Let's mark the calendars...October 14th-17 (Friday-Monday)

Everyone up for that?

I know exactly jack shit about East Coast climbing...so someone help a brutha out and let's hammer this thing down

Luv you all!

~RB

Okay, so the dates of Oct. 14-17 work well for me..... now for a destination.....

Skipping the areas already mentioned here in this thread (Rumney, The Red, The New, Nelson Rocks Preserve), I figured I'd share what I know about the Southeast...

Well, I'm no expert in Eastern or Southeastern climbing, but my climbing partners and I went down to North Carolina and loved it so much that we made an annual trip with 2 under our belts now. I don't know if that's what you're hoping for or not, but the rock is bombproof and the lines are amazing. We've been to 3 locations so far; Stone Mtn., Looking Glass and Rumbling Bald.

Stone Mtn: The quintessential slab destination, all routes start steep and ease as you gain altitude. It looks like a 450' tall granite cereal bowl upside-down. Routes are easy to moderate with almost all lots of smearing and plenty of runout excitement on cheese-grater granite.

Looking Glass: Probably the most diverse option. It's primarily trad, but has sporadic bolts and even some Yose-style aid routes on its steep north faces. The climbing is fantastic on the trademark eyebrows with lots of multi-pitch trad lines and great camping abounds. Routes go from serene to extreme and there's a huge number of them. It's also less than an hour from Rumbling Bald.

Rumbling Bald: Great climbing area with tons of fantastic bouldering. Climbing begins at moderate grades and goes up to 5.hard. No free, primitive camping real close though.

Knowing Robert's love for trad lines, I think Looking Glass would be an excellent choice, and Rumbling Bald is close by for those who want to challenge its steeper lines. RRRAdam can probably provide more beta on these options as he used to go there quite a bit I think.

Just some humble thoughts on places many of you might not have been yet.

Mick

The date is good, and as for the location, if you are going to do it on the east cost, I am definately in. I will start researching some other possible areas in the SE.

Well children…it’s what daddies have to do when mommies get drunk and hopped up on drugs and cause a big scene out in public and get thrown in jail…

They have to post bondage

(I’d make a great parent)
