There are several factors which make Mt Lemmon not the ideal gathering place (IMHO).

1. The climbing at Mt Lemmon is very spread out, and most of the crags have a limited selection of routes, in grade and quantity.

2. There also isn't any camping area that I know of that could accomodate a large number of people.

3. Mt Lemmon bouldering blows.

4. Mt Lemmon sport climbing is marginal at best(Excepting Steve's Arete).

5. Mt Lemmon is not limestone.

6. Mt Lemmon approaches suck balls.

Flag/Jacks rulz!!!!!111

WHA?!

I can't believe I'm hearing this! And from a Tucsonan!

To counter the Mt. Lemmon bashing:

1. If by "spread out" you mean "approach longer than 10 minutes" you might be right. Mean time, I can name crags galore with 10+ climbs, ranging 5.fun to 5.hard...

2. Camping for large groups abounds. Let me know if you need any suggestions, free or cheep.

3. Mount Lemmon PUBLISHED bouldering blows... HOWEVER, if you are willing to scramble up the right washes, canyons, and gullies, it will BLOW YOUR MIND. I'd be glad to show anyone around... but I don't promise to send much on my currently starving tips.

4. Mount Lemmon sport climbing is marginal if you never leave Windy Point. Thousands of "sport" climbs around the mountain cry out every day to be climbed... and go untouched because our busy lives keep us hacking for "roadside" crags, when the best are just a little work away.

5. Hmmm... you're right, Mt. Lemmon is NOT limestone. But in case you haven't noticed, Jacks Canyon isn't GRANITE!!!

6. "Mount Lemmon approaches suck balls." Don't know what to make of that one... Good excersize maybe? Amazing views? Less "car" noise? Fewer climbers, hence the crag is yours for the day... ? Refer back to point 1.

Anyway, I'd say the big deterant for a Mount Lemmon get together will be the highway traffic over the holiday. Head for COCHISE!!!! As much as I want to go, I've been sucked in to my 10-year highschool reunion that weekend.

Could somebody please try to reason me out of it?!

On 2nd thought, from the sounds of this thread, you're all a little too crazy for comfort! I up and got married, had a kid, and seem to have flattened out for the kind of craziness Zonies get into in the mountains... What sort of hazing would I be obliged to endure to be accepted to AZ 4.0?

Well, obviously we can not delve into specifics, as it's all Double Top Secret stuff, but I can give you a small hint:

It involves a can of Crisco, a Madagascar Parrot, and the 33lpm vinyl recording of Devastating Dave the Turntable Slave's "Zip Zap Rap."

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/....bell43/untitled.bmp

That's all I can tell you, lest I get outed by Robert Novak for revealing Double Top Secret stuff.

Reno -- yer killin me. Keep that damn parrot away from me. I had the Humane Society and the ASPCA all over my ass after last years goat slaying. I'm not allow around small animals any longer -- part of the conditions of probation.

You won't be the only one there who has gotten married since the last gathering. I'm sure I'll have the wife and rope gu...errrrrr, kid in tow.

OH SHIT. I haven't read any details beyond the first post, but count me in. Um... currently living in NH, but will then be in a dorm in Flag, so I guess that makes me AZ?

You're going to need to change your name. I'm afraid I have got "DIBS" on it. Don't worry, I am sure we can come up with something good to call you...

Hmm... fine. I will either have to revert to Juliana (the horror!) or Joules. That would be far less confusing.

Too lazy to read the entire thread. . . Is anyone bringing kids? If so, that is probably the only thing that will get me there. Mine have been gone too much this summer so I don't want to leave them, even if it is just for the weekend. BUT, I'd love to bring them out to meet some of my friends and for some camping and climbing. My older one gets a huge kick out of traveling to new states and neither one of them have been to AZ yet.
