In reply to: I use a grigri routinely with a dry 9.4. I have yet to find it "incompatable" with any skinny rope. -Jay Have you tried the Trango Cinch, Jay? I'd be curious to read your impressions of the device if you've tried it.

The Cinch is great. Hey Jay: ya know how nice your GriGri feeds slack on those skinny ropes? The Cinch will feed that nice even on worn thicker ropes. I even had it feeding slack just fine on a puffy, old 11mm rope (probably more like 12mm)---unfortunately, it turned out it wouldn't lower the climber . (I posted a thread about that). Generally, it is definitely more finicky to lower people with than a Gri. I still prefer it over a GriGri, though, because it feeds slack like it isn't even there.... 8^)

True. Either that or I swear by my Omega SBGII! I use it for everything and anything. I found the Cinch has a very touchy trigger (they are making next years longer, maybe that will give it more control). I think it is a good idea to do a couple of rapels with a cinch to get use to its control lever before you drop your partner using it for the first time. My 2 cents.
