i'm planning on going. this is all pending me getting that saturday and sunday off work.

anyone who wants to carpool from boulder/denver/pretty much anywhere on the 70 between here and moab, is welcome to it. i've got space for 3 others, since it's an 8 hour drive. it may be down to 2 others, as soon as someone checks their email (coughcolclimbcough) and gets back to me.

in fact, i think it would be better to carpool, since the price of gas sucks. i can leave on friday morning after about 8 am, and i really don't have to be back(but i can be, and would like to be--in other words, i'm flexible) until wednesday afternoon. of course, carpooling wold take some logistical work, but imo, it's worth the gas money saved.

anyone who's interested in carpooling(in my car or yours), pm me, or email me.

josh.

I'll be in Moab for the Fat Tire Festival (you all should consider that, Moab will be extra busy--but still do-able) I have Slack Lined but I wouldn't say 'I slack line' but I would love to hang with ya'll and watch, I haven't seen a highliner besides picture. Maybe we could do some routes too.
yeah, so are watchers invited to the party?

not a bad idea. i'll prolly throw my smallish rack in the car as well as my slackline gear, just in case some climbing does happen.

In reply to:

i'd say yeah, but i don't presume to speak for the group. as far as i'm concerned, the more the merrier, until the drunken fat tire crowd comes and wants to walk a highline...

ok, josh's care is down to 2 more empty seats, from the front range friday morning to moab on friday evening, and departing moab monday morning and arriving denver/boulder around 6 or 8 pm, possibly later. the return trip i' a little more flexible on, since i won't be setting up my lodging, just returning to my house/bed, which will be ready for me even if it's after dark.

josh.

I might come down, no cx race that weekend. We'll have to see, got a big proj. due the week before, not to mention a seminar presentation that friday. Prob. won't walk, but come by to say "Hey!" and watch, try and recruit some folks to do some climbing.

So, maybe, but won't know for a few weeks. As soon as I make a decision, though, i'll make it known.

How does everyone feel about new highliners joining in the fun? Have been slacking for a couple years but don't have the resources/knowledge to set-up my own highlines. Is there going to be a meeting place? It would be great to learn the set-ups.

there's no better way to learn than from someone in person.

Indeed, and actually that's part of what the trip is all about. Definitely come if you can!

CC
I will come through Vegas!
But I have three people and gear in a four seater!
But if I borrowed a bigger car for the trip or drove my truck as well, I could theoretically pick you up in Vegas!
I whole heartedly agree with Larry, YOU HAVE TO BE THERE!

Hehe, no worries man, I'm set with Josh through Denver now so I'm good. Looks like I'll make it as long as nothing drastic happens. :D

a question for the experienced highliners who are planning on being in attendance(the answer being intended for myself as well as any other noobs...):

what kinda stuff should we be responsible for bringing for highlining, aside from normal camping stuff?

rap rings,
a leash worth of rope?(btw, i'm assuming this is simply a length of dynamic rope.)
anything else? i don't wanna expect that the "leaders" would be providing something, and then not have enough gear.

anything else we should expect?

thanks.

josh.

You'll want your own harness for sure. I might bring a rope and some gear for photography purposes. I'll be bringing my leash and some slacklining gear, but I expect there'll be plenty of that to go around. Can't really think of a whole lot else you'll need though.

Has anybody gotten ahold of Scott? Not sure if he checks here regularly or not, but he probably oughta be invited.

damn! I need to check the boards more often!

Ok, this sounds AWESOME. ok I'm in Branson, MO. I'm contemplating flying in.

My questions aree....

1) If I fly into Denver(maybe Las Vegas?) on the 28th would there be a ride maybe, hopefully?

2) What gear need I bring?

3) What gear need I bring? <--- Pretty noob climber.

I've been slackling for a year and half, and I realllly want to do a highline, and I've been drooling at Larry's Moab pics.

Oh and if you guys are looking for airfares I check,
http://southwest.com/...es/hotfares_air.html

I'm most definitely thinking about coming.

if you get here by the time we leave we'l b here. i think coldclimb's flight gets here around 10 or so, and then we're driving from denver international straight to moab.

camping gear, a slackline if you've got it, a harness and a leash.

i'll be driving me and coldclimb, and perhaps a-slacker-in-progress from denver to moab on friday, the 28th, arriving sometime in the afternoon/evening. we'll need to leave fairly early on monday, the 31st, to get coldclimb back to the airport.

is someone organizing campsites, or what? i've never been to the area, dunno my way around...perhaps an off rc.com email list would be prudent at this point? perhaps not.

josh.

It doesn't look like a bunch of people are coming , so you guys can camp out at my place and my friend Sam's house. He has a 100' slackline in his yard, so we will probably be hanging there most. Bring a tent if you have one.

Oh yea, and some of that good Colorado beer.

A couple of us will have to camp at the highlines to make sure they don't get messed with, but we can have a rotation every night.

Peace, Larry
