In reply to: I'll be there getting all bowling alley drunk like this girl. That's the sort of class you just don't get here in tinsel-town. It's all Botox and bouldering (and that's just the men).

As my first year of climbing begins to wind down, I thought a celebration with all my new climbing friends would be a nice way to end the rock climbing season and also to recognize the anniversary of the death of my boyfriend, Angus. Sooo...... Party at my house on 10-21-2005. And yes, there will be drinking, story telling and maybe even liederhosen. This is NOT to be a sad occasion. No tears, no wailing or gnashing of teeth. It is meant to be a celebration of climbing and of living. So, leave your tissues at home and bring your booze and your happy faces. Lets pay homage to climbing. After all, it is THE GREATEST SPORT ON EARTH!

And, a couple of us will be putting together a slide show of all the climbing pictures from 2005. I've set up an account on http://www.photobucket.com to act as a collection point. PLEASE, load any climbing pictures you have into this account so we can include them in the slide show to be shown during the party. I'll also make CD's for anyone who is interested in having a copy of the show. Log in on photobucket: username: climbers2005 password: climb The more pics we have, the better the show. Hope to see everyone at the party.

There will be a fire pit outside, too, because everyone knows just how festive a fire pit is. Can there be anything more festive? Unlikely. http://www.sandiegoclubs.com/...l/w%20fire%20pit.jpg This one will actually be on a large piece of tin on gravel, but you get the picture. So come get that same campfire smell you are still trying to remove from the clothes you wore to Shelf. Those unable to drive due to sleepiness or "other" reasons can crash at the house.

In the spirit of Oktober Fest... EU: English Is Official Language of EU: As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as “Euro-English”. In the first year, “s” will replace the soft “c”. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard “c” will be dropped in favour of “k”. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome “ph” will be replaced with “f”. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter. In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governmen! ts will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent “e” in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away. By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing “th” with “z” and “w” with “v”. During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary “o” kan be dropd from vords kontaining “ou” and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru. Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas. Vince Jetzt, gibt mir ein bier!

Cindy, I didn't have the opportunity to meet Angus, but if he was half as genuine, enthusiastic, friendly and fun as you are, then I'm sure he was a quality human being that deserves a big time celebration in his honor!!! Thanks for the invite. I'll be there with bells on. -kelly. No jagermeister for me this time, though!

I have my sons that night and per Cindy's suggestion, I'm bringing them, ages 6 and 10. . .boys. I won't be drinking that night. . .no matter how many shots you guys throw in my face, so if more kids show, I'll help entertain them. I'm like a milkbone flavored Barney. Dogs and kids love me. hehe

This is going to be a blast! Looks like I will definitely need some help with food and chairs. So, bring your booze, a chair and a snack. If you think you might get blottoed, wasted or trashed, bring a sleeping bag and plan to crash on the floor. If you can't crawl inside to get to your sleeping bag, the backyard isn't a horrible place to spend the night. It's better than ricocheting off Jen's car and then passing out face down in the dirt right outside your SUV. Aye, Aaron? Watch out for the dogs though in the morning. They tend to pee on anything that isn't moving. Meanwhile, I'll be inside rustling up some grub for breakfast. Belgium waffles or pancakes?????? WHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Edited to note: Sharpie won't be joining us because he will be in the Bahamas at a water climbing contest. Anyone want to step into his shoes? Or should I say helmet? Wow, over 50 people are coming to Octoberfest! Bring your own booze, a snack (if you want), a chair if you have one and want to be by the firepit, and a sleeping bag if you intend to 'drink and doze' or get 'trashed and crashed.' Breakfast Burritos will be served in the morning along with OJ and extremely strong coffee.

Just a shitty thought. The VeloSwap is on Saturday, I think there's a good chance I'll be selling there. So if you pedal like me, we might not be able to go climbing on Saturday after the party, still, buying and selling bike parts with a hang over is cool. If I sell my Vortex before the swap, I'm climbing biatchez.

The fire pit has been procured for the party. After much driving in mine country, a sufficient quantity of sheet metal was recycled on the roadside and carted to the backyard, where it was set upon four cinder blocks and stomped into a mild V shape to hold the hot logs. A second metal sheet goes underneath to protect the grass from the heat. Now, no jumping over the fire from the trampoline.

In reply to: Trampoline, beer, I have seen this, NOT always pretty :) This is another activity I have experienced. And you're wrong, Scott. It most definitely WAS pretty. Pretty bloody because I had a rock stuck in my head, pretty sore because I hit the fence before I landed in the rocks, pretty stupid because I shouldn't have been doing back flips after consuming mass quantities of alcohol, and pretty funny based on the hysterical laughter coming from the witnesses. I think this is an activity best left to the person with a new bionic liver. Steve???? Steve????? Steve?????

I had a similar experience last weekend with my first slackline attempt, I have the video :), this was after 10-12 beers and a not small quantity of moonshine... We learned that slackline over pavement = bad idea (have the bruises to prove it), and a Ford Ranger is not heavy enough to string a slackline. After this we moved to trampoline (not me I was beat up enough), but others did. Not as exciting as you experience, but more enjoyable as I was only watching :) scoTt

That's good thinking, Steve. Jumping off the tramp and over the fire naked, could be dangerous. Protecting your boa from possible burns by wearing a helmet is really smart. I bet you could borrow Sharpie's helmet.

Have a great time tonight guys - sorry I can't be there but I'm having my tucks done this weekend. (The years have been kind to me, but the Saturday nights have been a killer). I've decided to nominate the bat as my proxy in attendance. Make sure somebody crushes a beer can against Apostolou's head tonight, and if any of the photos are allowable on this website I shall be very disappointed in you all.

In reply to: Whose bringing the absinthe?  Ha ha ha. I had a bottle from Czech back in Austin. Interesting, shitty flavor. Super Secret Intelligence: Single women will be at the party. Use the proper codephrase "The sun is shining." to the closest Shadow agent to inquire. Your reply will be "But the ice is slippery."

Cindy, you certainly know how to throw a great party. I left before the naked fire pit jumping began so I can't comment on whether the helmet wearing actually saved lives or "equipment"? :) Seriously, it was great seeing everyone and it was fun meeting new people and putting some faces with some screenames! I hope you all enjoy your breakfast burrito's this morning! JD

Cindy asks me how old I am, "Twenty seven" I respond. At that she laughs, swears a little, and laughs more. Is this because I found a grey hair? I'm really self conscious about it ::snif:: Great party

A really big THANK YOU for coming to my little soiree. God, it was so good to see everyone again and to meet some new people. I can't think of a better way to have spent the day. It was perfect. Good Food Good Friends and Family Good Beer (way, way too much good beer) I didn't find any bodies in my house this morning which means I have about 30 of Jen's delicious burritos in the fridge. I'll save them until the next party. I climbed Anthill today with Josh (thanks for leading, btw). Climbing with a horrid hangover is not that fun. Just in case anyone is wondering. I can see why no one climbs that route. It's difficult to find the route and the rocks are covered with lichen. Slippery stuff. Josh, you earned a ton of good karma credits today. The desire to climb Anthill is the reason I started climbing. Now that I have accomplished the climb, I'm hanging up my rock shoes. Jez fukkin wid cha. If anyone wants to climb, I'm there.

Cindy, Thanks for a spectacular party. It was a great time and it was fantastic meeting everyone. Just a heads up to all that attended, Gary will most likely be posting the photographic evidence today. This could get ugly. :lol jen aka mushroomcloud

Had a great time all. Cindy and folks, I will get the pics up as soon as I can. It's a little busy today at work, but hopefully I will get the hour I need to do it. If not, I will definitely get them up tomorrow.

In reply to: I apologize to anyone who is offended by my truck driver antics. Awww shucks, we all just thought you were saying, "You number one!" But really, you should do something about those cuticles. How long has it been since the last manicure?

Thanks Cindy, I had a great time at your place. It was great to meet everyone and put some faces to some names. We'll all have to get together sometime soon. I might try and go do some riding sometime soon if anyone is intrested.

Plans seem to form on a weekly basis here. We got a spot right now that you would swear had mid November conditions...
