So, what do you all think she is? A new breed of the teeny bop? A new britney spears, just masked in try hard punk clothing? Or is she ACTUALLY original, and not a teeny bop, sell out untalented etc? My vote, shes a new breed of the teeny bop. I mean, she dresses like she should be singing REAL punk, but we get this cheesy hardcore wannabe songs that are not punkish AT ALL! sheesh, the pop punkers are taking over. God save us all from Lavigne, Sum 41, Blink 182, Greenday. *shudders*

I was watchign this sort of interview thing with avril lavigne on the news a while back. And she said that she doesn;t want to beknown as liek a punk skater (or vice versa), butyet, they were doing the interview from the big skatepark in calgary, where she had in her hands a skateboard. I'm sorry, bt it made absolutely no sense to me, I mean some of her other songs aren;t bad, but complicated is starting to get on my nerves. Just my thoughts. Brittany

From what I understand she writes and performs her own music, that has to be commended I should think. Haven't seen the video so can't say as I've seen her, but I heard the song, that and this one called 'gimme the light' by some guy named Sean Paul, and I like them ...

i admire anyone that can write and preform their own songs. she sucks up all the criticizm and all the crap that people throw at her. i think shes not like brittany or celine, shes herself just trying to do what she likes. at least shes modest, and doesnt have to show off all of herself just to get fans. i admire her for that too. writing songs is really hard, i must admit. and writing music to go with it is hard too. she has a telent, whether people recognize it or not.

I heard Jimmy Eat World perform a live song on KROQ at the Weenie Roast and they sucked live. I hate it when bands can't actually sing live, although they may have just been having a bad day. I saw Sum41 several times before any of you knew who they were and they kicked ass. Then I saw them on Warped last year and they had the most awful performance I've seen in a long time.

you all got me interested with this topic. music is something like a cross between dido and blink 182, altho I do think she is better than the sum of the parts, dido is too monotonous and blink 182 is too stupid and punk. but that's not saying much, I don't think she's going to be the next celine dion as someone said because she doesn't have much of a voice. (I'll bet she can't sing live, same as britney... no wait... she can't sing, period.) tries too hard to be original but? she sure is cute... not that it really ammounts to much... I do respect if she composes her own stuff tho

The point I was trying to make was that for someone of her age, to write and sing your own songs (trite or not) takes a lot of guts. Having that much guts is to be commended...

I say that Avril has a bright future ahead. She is just seventeen and she is fulfilling her dreams. So what if she is exploiting a market of kids with no individuality searching for some deeper meaning to their ultimately pathetic and useless lives. In a year from now she will be filthy rich and will never have to listen to anyones petty insults. Celine Dion is famous (or infamous) filthy rich and she doesn't have to care about our petty insults and all she had to do was exploit the masses of young girls who where searching for their tragic, beautiful and ultimately pointless and pathetic love stories at the bottom of the ocean next to a ship that sunk a hundred years ago. But COMparing the two! That is cruel and unusual by anyone's standards. Celine Dion isn't even real, she was computer generated with the Titanic.

It's not the artists fault, blame the kids that buy their CDs and request her videos. I may think that the Backstreet Boys have little to no musical talent and are entirely a product of their promoters and agents but it's not their fault they suck. If they were so bad then why do stupid kids buy their gear? I blame the stupid kids.

the backstreet boys have talent compared to britney, she can't even sing... all she can do is wiggle her ass rather decently (or indecently depending on the interpretation) and don't even mention n'sync... I've never seen more media manipulation than that.

I'm a bass payer for a band that is actually somewhat punk.......more like emo-indy rock, but anyway, we could kick the s*** out of many bands on TRL or other shows like that. They all write these poppy songs and sell out. It really bugs me. Avril almost there with the whole pose as a skater-punk chick.

Ummm Personally I think her poppie attempt at mocking the punk community is sad. Yes she did bring this whole skater fad even bigger with the dumb Ties and socks on your arms but what the hell? I mean shes doing what she wants to do it may be awful she may not be very good live and she may not be the best looking girl on the planet but at least shes helping pop music have one thing it has been lacking for a while... Instraments. Spears NSync and all the rest just have mixing boards that make pretty beats atleast she has a Gituar Bass and Drums. Thats why I half-way respect her and others that are doing the same like Vanessa Carlton and Pink. Maybe they'll help people have higher expections than people who look good and can dance while lip syncing to their song. How can people even call this music punk? It was an outrage when Green Day was labeled punk... an atrocity when Blink 182 got blessed with the punk label... and this chick is the farthest thing from the original definition of punk the world has ever seen. Punk isn't pop, it can't be. It's not supposed to be. It's about bucking the system, and not giving a damn about images and labels and conformity. In it's origin the music was highly politically motivated (pay attention to how many true punk songs have the word "revolution" in them some time). At it's least its nonsensical and horribly off key when preformed live. At it's best it motivates you to quit your job and start some anarchy. SHE IS REALLY HOT THOUGH!!! (Remind anyone of Nicole Kidman a little?)
