Yeah its been slow....looks like Chicago and L.A. were having some problems also. If you do a trace on the IP address below, you'll see the hops and the milliseconds its taking.... type this....tracert 216.240.150.146 and hit , and you'll see all of the slow connections up to the IP.

Probably look something like

There's the problem, like 6 hops to earthlink servers. Earthlink Sucks.

Gracias, JL. But the truth is, it happened all the time when I was a mod. Frustrates me as much now as it did then. Yesterday I almost ran to the street corner to buy actual crack to substitute my RC.com virtual crack.

But, maybe my time working here leant me a perspective that most others don't get. I know ddt and the developers are working as fast as they can. Unfortunately, the budget is shoestring for both money and time that actual people can devote to it. I have as much choice now as I did then -- to be patient. Sooner or later (obviously more later), things will get better. And when they do, I suspect most of us will believe it was worth it.

For those of us that aren't contributing members, I don't think there is much room for complaint. If I was paying a monthly fee and still had to deal with excessive load times, it would be a larger issue. I don't feel it's being ignored, especially with the amount of posts that come up and the updates from ddt.

Besides, it's a good reminder of what life was like with dial-up. Click a page, minimize the screen and focus on something else for a couple minutes, then check back.

FYI: dbrayack pointed out to me that the recent problem seems to be limited to the front page. Sure enough, I'm only experiencing "normal" delays with most every other page. I still don't seem to be able to get the FP to load, though. Not sure why that is.

It was a sad weekend for the Hamster family. Rockclimbing.com Hamster had quite a cardiac episode followed by a bout with Pnemonia and shin splints. After hours of surgery by Dr. Tim (probably) it seems as though he will pull through for now.

Best wishes to the Hamster family in their time of crisis

Serious question for Tim, DDT and whoever else...

At some point, is it worth considering bailing on some of the beta testing and de-bugging and pushing live with the new site and hardware? Even untested it would almost certainly be more stable and usable than what the site has been lately.

I don't mean this as a slag, I'm sure you guys are busting ass on this and Tim's hip probably has permanent nerve damage from the pager going off telling him the site's down. I'm asking earnestly.

We'll go live as soon as we can do that without causing more pain, frustration and work for ourselves than what we have at the moment. And rest assured, this day will come before the new site is perfect!

At the moment we have not started beta testing. We're still doing development work on some final pieces that we need for a complete site.

Three threads about justifying the practice of bolting cracks was all the hamster could handle. He just couldn't be associated with the site any longer.

By chance, does that at all translate into: "We're still developing the gratuitous nudity features that we need for a complete site."

I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that the sexy nipple chick is good and all, but its time to remove the shirt.

Agreed. We all need to learn patience. Remember, if your not part of the solution, your part of the problem! ha ha, I hate the quote so much, but it might be true.

I think because thats what everyone else tries to hit at the same time. Kinda like the front door at a concert, if you can sneak in the side it's less wait time, but the same show.

Please, Please, Please beta test before launching the new site. I'll help all I can, but don't launch a site without testing it first. Of course you know that, but just in case! =)
