Shoot, I don't know if I've made it to the 5.1 range yet. I can't seem to break the 4.10c range. haha. I'll just be entering as a beginner or whatever. I'll do sport up to 5.9 or TR up to 11. I mainly just wanna hang out with everyone and see what it's like. I'll be there the next two weekends to climb.

NICE yah man.....I pretty much go climbing every day after work. You should hit me up after the event....perhaps we can visit some of the "less obvious" climbing destinations.... -Dan

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! So I think we're going to add a supplemenet to the bouldering comp: We're going to add the bouldering area: Short Creek (assuming I get the darned thing done!)

Where will the photo clinic be held again? How much of the day will it take? We're wondering if we'll get enough routes in to partake in the trad/sport comp.

Its in the morning. I was thinking Tentatively at Hawks Nest, but we can make a call the morning of...if its just us, then we can go climb and take climbing photos... I'm thinking like sit around and talk about stuff for about 30-45 min, then go whereever and take lots of photos. It'll be very hands on, like OK, I would use this angle/lens to take this shot. I wouldn't bother with this shot, etc etc. What'd you think?

#1: I'll be looking for partners for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I've been to the New twice before, but I just tagged along and didn't pay much attention, so I don't know my way around. I lead sport up to about 10b and trad up to 8. If anyone's interested, drop me a line. #2: I'm coming from the Philly area, either Thursday night or Friday morning. Anyone interested in carpooling?

I'm in the same boat. Guess I'm not to worried about finding partners, and I hope to make the best of the clinics being offered, but it would be nice to find some people to car pool with. I will be leaving St. Catharines, On, driving through Buffalo (can go through any of the crossings there). Taking the I90 to Erie, Pennsylvania and then getting on the I79. Idealy some one from Ontario would meet me in St. Catharines, but I have no problem picking up people alond the way. I will be leaving Thursday afternoon, I'm hoping 2 or 3pm (to get down there at a reasonable time). And be leaving for home on Monday, again at 2 or 3pm. Would love some company and to be able to share gas!

Have any other volunteers heard anything? When should we expect to hear? It would be nice to know when my services will be needed so that I can make arrival and climbing plans around them. Thanks

I got a word document via email about a week ago containing current timeslots and names for the volunteers. I'd send it to you but I can't seem to find it, oops.

I'm sure that's where your name is then! If you volunteered for a specific slot and have not heard back, then assume that is where you are. I'm phoning around to get an electronic copy of the volunteer's schedule. stay tuned folks! Also, we'll have the schedule available at the event for you to check. -Dan

Question: how much spending money should I look at having on me? What goodies are going to tempt me and how expensive will they be (gear, clothes or food on sale? good deals?). FYI - I plan to bring some cash for my donation for enjoying the weekend, but other than the donations and my own food it sounds like everything else is free. I don't want to get caught with my pants down and no cash in my pocket if something comes along. Also, an all important question......should I pick up some generic beer at the duty free or are there some must-have brews when I get down there (or at least point me in the direction of a place with a decent beer selection, I'd rather just blow through the border).

Theoretically, you can bring 0 $$ to the event and walk away stuffed and happy. However, the purpose of the event is to raise $$ for rebolting and other issues in the gorge. We will NOT be selling anything. However, we will be auctioning off gear and photos; There will be ropes, draws, cloths, that sort of thing that you can bid on. (Silent auction, likely starting bid price = whole sale or close) We take plastic, check and cash, so if you don't want to bring cash but bring a credit card, bling bling. (though cash would be best for the donation bin...just think, about $2.75 = a brand spanking new bolt and hanger) The competitions, of course, cost $$ so if you want in on that, bring some dough (and some guns.) There will be LOTS of prizes for that. To be honest with you, I don't really drink much. Since in WV, the national past time is drinking cheap beer, you may be inclined to bring something "special" from Canada or from somewhere along the way. (and bring me some too OK?, just kidding) Hope that helps, -Dan

Okay, I didn't really know. Good to know about the payment options for the auction though, and like I said I wan't planning on taking in the whole thing without some sort of donation. Its just that we have a stash of american cash that I was going to dip into, I just wanted to get an idea of how much I should bring. And I'll see about bringing some nice Quebec beer that I have been enjoying lately (nice flavour...and pretty strong!). But beer is a lot cheaper in the states so I was planning on taking advantage of that.

I think there is nothing you need to buy other then lunches during the day. The rest is donations. There are the picture auctions, the raffles, donate $10 for patagonia shirts, minor amounts of gear is for sale, silent auctions, etc. So, if you are gullible for donating to good causes...you would need at least $1000 spending cash. If you are hard hearted, you should be more then good with $10. I think most people are going to be good with $50 alloted for splurge cash. Last year we brought a case of beer, but we didn't use it except when the lines to the kegs were huge. I would love to hear the beer joints myself though. I have never found anything better then the gas stations carrying bud, miller, coors, and pabst. Sometimes I like to spoil myself with a microbrew. ----------------------------------- second question triggered by your post.... I understand this is similar to asking what percentage you tip, but I am curious as to what you all believe. How much do you guys feel should be donated for a clinic? My thoughts have been to go look up how much the clinics normally cost the public, and then I would donate based off of that. As an example, I will use the numbers I remember from the Warrior's Way clinics. Expresso clinics seem to be about $70 Two day clinics $200 My guess is that a one day clinic is probably $120 What would you think a good donation for taking the clinic would be? I think something around $100 is reasonable (in this instance). The volunteer is giving up one day's pay to the NRR. So, the NRR should get the whole day's pay. However, I wouldn't take most of the clinics if they were full priced. So, I am giving a portion of the 100% cost. What do you guys think is an acceptable amount? How are you deciding what to give for a clinic that is not given outside of the NRR? (As an aside, I should note that I am going to donate in addition to the clinics. I just feel my attendance at a clinic validates ____ extra. I am trying to decide how much extra.) Thanks

Appalachian Ale is quite tasty and can be purchased at Pies and Pints, one of the must go places to chow on pizza and guzzle the suds. You can also buy 20oz bottles of Rogue to go there. Rogue's Hazlenut porter is always a yummy treat. You'll pay for it though. Other than that, beer selection in Fayetteville is pretty limited. You can all the regular stuff and even can get stuff like Newcastle, Sam Adams, and other more popular microbrews. But as far as local varieties, I don't know of a grocery store or gas station that sells a great selection.

Okay, wait.....how much food and how many meals should I plan for anyway? Food planning for trips like this always kills me, and it would be a big help if I didn't have to plan too many of my own meals. I'm also curious about the donations and what people are thinking about for the clinics. The only thing I have a basic idea of the cost is for the yoga clinics. I don't know what cost of these specialty clinics would normally be.
