so... just out of curiosity, why is this guy so intensely loathed. i have been around here for about 3 years now.. and my only recollection of him is his "accidents and injuries" posts. i replied to one of his posts about "digital photography" yesterday.....later i checked back to follow up on my post, and come to find out, this guy is definitely on a lot of people's fecal roster. so lets here the stories......why is he public enemy #1

He's not loathed, we love him dearly. He's like that crazy uncle in the corner of the room at family gatherings whos rocking back and forth in a little ball clutching his teddy bear.

You know, the guy meant well when he started posting accident reports. Hell, nobody hates ANAM. But for some reason, that combined with bad writing skills (English is not his first language), brought the haters out of the woodwork.

Those posts elicited more of a "what's with this obsession?" reaction. The hate started when folks posted about their own accidents, and he would be first on the scene calling people stupid, and saying that they deserved it.

Very little sence of humour in that boy. He isn't consistent with how he post (outside of subject), sometime a quick couple searches to clarify before he posts would be benificial for him.

as time goes on he seems to be losing experience... an old gem..
In reply to: At the end and based on my experiences with such devices, almost all rappelling accident are caused by the operator and in every case, their limited familiarity with the device itself was the leading cause of their accidents. Ps I own every device but this baby goes with me on evey big wall http://img86.imageshack.us/.../7836/veo0002jf0.jpg
In reply to: I also climbed 1650 feet on jumars during expeditions knowing that if I dropped I was going to kill myself.
In reply to: Well ,you should never belay without gloves, rope burns could kill ,I have seen deep cut over 1 inch on the partner's hand from not wearing a glove on El Cap, stopping a fall is an art, heat generated from the fast moving rope directly applies to all devices such as your fingers and every thing else,(july '03) (haha funny how the other day he said
In reply to: Her hand got burnt by passing rope, how could this be possible ? I guess a pair of leather gloves could help, do not you think SO ? lol.. could fill a whole thread

out of curiosity, i pm'ed majid_sabet last night to find out the scoop. I was expecting that he had conjoined twin myslexia, or, maybe, he was a professional baby kicker.... some reason that his posts would give rise to such reactions. he seems like a nice down to earth guy. he made reference to the fact that he had lost someone close to him in a climbing accident, and that was his reason for the "accidents and injuries" posts. so i am not sure about the conjoined twin myslexia thing, but but a nice guy - yeah.

So when you guys spoon, who get's the outside? There's a lot of shit talking around here, but I think when you get down to it, most around here are probably good people in real life. Except for me. It's the internet, there's always going to be flaming, and there's always going to be hot targets for it, usually based on their posting style more than anything else. Majid seems like he's handling our remarks just as anyone should... let it slide right off your shoulder. Then, move on, or sling mud back.

Alright -- I'll go to bat for Majid. I've only known him via this forum for several years but he's always been a well intentioned guy who's message often gets lost in translation. I know he is considered by friends as a competent climber and an all around good guy. He spends a lot of time doing search and rescue work and this probably explains his seeming "obsession" with accidents. He has seen a lot of stupid stuff cost people dearly. You may get the impression that English is not his first language -- and you'd be correct. He clearly struggles at times to say what he means. Regardless, I think he's a good guy at heart. I'd be happy to rope up with him some day. Ed

I've known Majid for about 14 years. I've climbed with him a handful of times. Here's my take: He is obsessed with safety to the point of absurdity. I have wondered whether climbing is simply a venue for him to discuss/preach safety issues. (He would probably have just as much fun discussing the dangers encountered while cooking dinner.) He is enamored with anything SAR. Vertical. Alpine. River. Lake. You name it. He wants to be part of it. He takes SAR classes whenever and wherever he can. Volunteers at YOSAR. Volunteers for Santa Clara County SAR. Goes to Pakistan and teaches a SAR clinic while he's there. He's obsessed with SAR. What else can I say? He is frickin' cynical. He also has a very dry sense of humor, and it can be hard to know when he's joking. He is very bright. He is a genuinely nice guy - a bit wierd and certainly with his own idiosynchrocies, but a very nice guy, for sure. So don't knock the guy for his safety fetish. It's just how he is. In fact, be glad he's around. RC.com benefits by having somebody that far to that side of the spectrum. I know I'll never spend any time searching the net for accident reports, etc. But I'm glad someone does. (And I'm glad it's not me.)

Oh, for fuck's sake, this has got to be the absolute nadir of misguided politically correct bullshit. Xenophobic? Xenophobic?!? Jesus wept. The guy, while occasionally well meaning, is a fucktard. Same as other jackasses on this board (kansasclimber comes to mind), yet no one falls back on the xenophobia excuse when those assclowns get flamed.

The same thing that people have met you think of you. . . You're an ok guy but think you know a lot more about climbing rescue than you actually do. That and your accent is a bit annoying.
