I am guessing that the pop tart is out but can anyone suggest the best breakfast for a long day of climbing? Trying to keep my energy up and my food down.

I like a warm bowl of WEED! No, just joking! I prefer either 3 packets of oatmeal and tea, or a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter. Both seem to give me the steam to make it through the day with lots of energy. I usually can get by with a cliff bar and an apple for lunch with these breakfasts. Of course, by the hike out I'm ready to eat my partner.

Coffee, half a power bar, and four Ex-lax tablets was the daily diet of many rad climbers in the late 80's.

banana oatmeal waffles (use half flour, half oats, and some old bananas), with plenty of real maple syrup. use extra waffles to make powerburgers: waffle sandwhiches with peanut butter, nuttella and raisens. pack these in and make your partner jealous. or you could always go with ham sandwhiches. can't go wrong with ham sandwhiches for climbing.

depends on the amount of time it will pass before i climb. if its less than about 1h30min, i eat cereal. if its more, i prefer scrambled eggs with bacon or somesuch. but be warned, youll need some time to digest this

Oatmeal works for some people, stuff makes me ravenous an hour later.I do the egg/bacon/cheese/mayo/english thing.I can run all day on that,I'm no diet whiz, but I think you be wanting some protein in there to make it last.

mix all these things together to get a breakfast that will keep you satisfied and give you energy for hours: - 1 cup plain oatmeal, cooked (good carbs, fiber) - 1 tbsp peanut butter (healthy fats, protein. the fat slows the digestion of carbs and gives you more energy for longer) - 1 sliced banana (again, good carbs, fiber, and potassium to help prevent cramps) - 1 tbsp honey (simple sugars to get you going soon, and it makes this whole concoction taste better) - 1 cup plain yogurt (lots of protein. if you use vanilla yogurt, skip the honey, unless you like super sweet things) - any other fruits you like, just mix them in. blueberries do really well. this is good about and hour and a half before climbing. if you're going to climb any sooner, i'd suggest eating only about 1/2 to 2/3 of it. feel free to play with the ratios anyway you like. this is what i use and it works really well. let me know what you think. -e

I usually get 2 krispy kremes and a tea before climbing. 3 krispy kremes if i'm going multi-pitching.

moditup wrote: BEER Breakfast of Champions Idiot..... you can't drink beer for breakfast and expect to have energy to climb all day. Gotta add some pretzels to it. Me, I'll have a bit of oatmeal with some dried fruit and a dab of jelly/jam (like you get when you eat at a diner.... those little packs of jelly?) I'll often have a PopTart with it. And coffee, of course.

You live in Florida- probably climb somewhere HOT- I'd suggest easily digestable foods. Unless you get to eat a while before climbing- then load up on kcals! Anything you love, plenty of fiber to slow down the digestion. So juice, fruit, oatmeal, some protein, etc.

I can't believe it is cooler there than here.

Multigrain hot cereal, mixed with banana, Blueberries, Peanut Butter, Honey & straight up expresso to help with the endurance (not too much tho!) If I know that I have really long and very very very intense day ahead of me- I'll take Ephedrine if it is legal in your state/providence or country since it really fires you up and multiplies the effects of caffeine. It can be considered as performance enhancer so if you're in comp... make sure it's not against the rule. Ephedrine can be dangerous so don't abuse it and take it very rarely. DO NOT take it with any medications unless approved by doc. Also, drink SHITLOAD of water since this do lead to higher likeness to dehydration.
