'cause that's all there is to New York, right....!? Oh, wait, that's right, I forgot Orange County, 'cause that's "Upstate" New York, you know. Let me give you JG's quick rules of geography: 1). North of Orange County, NY is Canada with the limited exception of the Adirondacks which a bit like the Guam of New York. It's somehow part of the state but in the middle of any ocean of Canada. 2) Jersey City is the north pole and therefore 20 miles in any direction is South Jersey (i.e. Sussex County) 3) The Mason Dixie line is in Bayonne, NJ so travelling further south than about 35th Street in Bayonne means you are in Kentucky. 4) Anything northeast of the Bronx is Boston and therefore sucks the big one accordingly. (Some people refer to the outlier parts of Boston as the eastern parts of Westchester, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and the rest of Massachusetts which includes the County of Rhode Island.) 5). It is a myth that anything at all exists between New Jersey and California. Route 80 is actually a Super Mario Brothersesque warp zone that allows you to just pop up in the Bay Area. There will be a test on this on Monday so I hope you are taking notes.

in a slightly related matter, did anyone see the article that says that Boston is no. 3 in the country for bad drivers and mostly likely to commit road rage? Now, it didn't actually say who is 1 and 2, but if we are not #1, then it must be NYC. Who would the other one be? Somewhere in New Jersey? Josh

I'm in Northwest NJ (near the DWG) and am in the market for occasional partners. It would be nice to meet more climbers in the area.

Well JRenee, your location has a lot to do with things. I never doubted for a minute that you lived in NYC, because, as someone else previously posted, only a resident of the aforementioned stinkhole would have the gall to say, "I live in New York" and assume that people knew he meant city. See, for those of us who live/lived in the rest of the state, we get a little tired of the attitude from the city we subsidize with our tax dollars. I'm guessing you're not going to be up for the 7 hour drive to Niagra Falls to do some bouldering, so your location, in a tiny corner of a big state, does indeed make a difference. Jeez, I left NY state 6 years ago, you'd think I could let this go by now! I gotta go kick the dog...

PS, your post was way better than the one I started writing along the same lines. Mine just made me sound like a jerk....so I deleted it

Har!!! I will rarely do the 15 min drive to Niagara Falls to some bouldering! Limestone sucks! I will agree, as a confused Canadian living so close to the state of NY I am not always sure if the person means NY state or NYC. Though I think I'm slowly picking it up.

I had a couple of Boston buddies in college.... they had the worst road rage I have ever seen... I thought their heads were going to explode everytime someone did the slightest thing.. and then it was a 10 min screaming and finger explosion extravaganza.... It was crazy!!! and I am from philly....were're not the best either but the Boston fellas were damn crazy.

I've only ever seen Jersey road rage... which usually gets resolved by tail-gating and high beaming the weaker animal. It's a vicious practice; but, it culls the flock. ...I have been known to get bouts of rage at the mass of SUV drivers with cellphones that nearly collide with my tiny car weekly.
