Bleeding is usually the first sign of bad technique unless the rock is excessively sharp(crack climbing).

Although I've been totally spent before and have thrown technique out the window bullying up a pitch to finish a climb.

Those of you who are down on bleeding all seem to be trad climbers. Bouldering and sport involve dynamic movements, razor sharp crimps and weird body positions. Hell even trad uses knee, elbow, etc. scums. You can get scraped up and if you think that means you are climbing wrong then perhaps you should take your opinions to the elitist snob section(s) of the board.

"You're not really climbing until you berate other climbers for not climbing in the way you do."

I really hate the "Leading is climbing" crap. Somehow, people think that danger somehow defines the art and act of climbing.

Bouldering and free soloing are the truest forms of climbing (and they are the same) and the rest of that stuff is just more work and more fear added to the mix.

And I say this as a trad climber who never boulders, not sport climbs.

"You are not really climbing until you've bled on someone who belittles other forms of climbing."

I usually bleed cause I overshoot a dyno and scraped my knuckles or went for a rail off balance and tore a flapper or crunched my 2 fingers the wrong way in a pocket and scrapped some skin off or moved my hand up real quick and bashed a hold or overcrimp a hold and watch as the blood beads to the finger tips... do you see the trend?

"you're not really climbing unless you're bleeding" - Hey, I guess I am really climbing on those days I made a faulty move up the wall...

the only unavoidable bleeding are the jagged edges designed for punishment, hand jams and mono finger pockets...

I used to get flak at work for coming in on Monday with scrapped up knees. ("Looks like someone was on his knees this weekend.")

Its like snowboarding, I'm not really pushing myself unless I fall once in a while. And if you fall once in a while, in climbing or boarding, you're going to get some bruises and/or scrapes.

i have yet to bleed from climbing i just come home with bruises all over my legs. i'm a bruiser not a bleeder. really bad when people look at my legs and ask "what in the heck did you do to yourself" the only other time i heard that was after getting bucked off a horse. now i am beginning to think maybe i am not as smart as i thought breaking horses and rock climbing guess that mare knocked something loose when she bucked me off.
