What if you run out of rope on a repell down a cliff? Is there a way to climb back up. I will use a munter hitch . Do I just climb up a few feet and than rest and repeat? Has anyone ever ended up suspended over a cliff and died because they could not move?

Judging by all your other posts you have absolutly no idea of what your doing.
There are places and ways to go about learning the skills for rockclimbing, iceclimbing, rappeling and instalation of bolts.
THIS SITE IS NOT A GOOD WAY!!!!

I think you are assuming Im stupid. Its a 3 inch bolt in rock. it is not going to fail. there is nothing you can do that would cause it to fail. drill a hole. hammer the bolt in. test. Im using a prussik for backup. i might even buy a grigri. Im terrified of heights. im terrified of dying. i have a university degree in a technical subject. i do my own car repairs. i even have built foundations and place bolts in the concrete. this is prolly the one and only time i do this. i have a reason to get up this waterfall and it aint for fun. just give me info so i dont kill myself. thanks in advance.

That's the problem is if we just type some info down on this site. We'll just enable you enough to get yourself killed.
From all your posts I am assuming your a novice at best. You might have gone to the gym a few times and maybe even climbed outside but have never placed trad gear in your life.

Why must you get to the top of this fall? Is there an injured climber up there?

I not calling you stupid, just inexperenced.
We all care for your safety, that's why we are discouraging you.

Here's a rockclimbing school near you

You guys are very wrong. Im scared to even drive. Im super defensive . Im anticipating other drivers being drunk or insane. If only you could tell me one way I could place a bolt wrong. this is a waste of my time. now i have to go buy a book.

And men said the Titanic was unsinkable too.

If I were you, I would seek a less technical rout up to the top of this cliff, or I would enlist the help of experienced climbers in your area.

God Bless,

mikitta has a good idea.
You mentioned something about conservation reasons.

Just post exactly what it is that your trying to accomplish and I sure you'll get a more favourable response.

Is it a research project or are you actually trying to put up a wet rockclimb?

I would give this one a T5 for creativity, but sadly I think this guy is for real.

Use a pair of prussik loops that you were asking about on your other thread and jug the line back to safety.

You can fall and die.

Yes.
edmontonalta wrote:

Yes.

A better plan is to make sure your rope is long enough before you get on rappel.

I hope you don't die rappelling anytime soon. But of course, the universal disclaimer, you're going to die eventually somehow.

you're buying a grigri, you have a rope, a harness and everything else needed for rappelling, BUT you can't afford books. Right.....

Head down to your local shop or gym and ask around for a guide.

If you're seriously going to bolt a route or do anything of the such....buy a GriGri and ascender and learn to use them.

i bolded my favorite part.

since you have a technical degree, i vote you show us some math proving that your bolts are strong enough to sustain forces generated. 100 level college physics should have taught you enough to get a pretty good estimate

Are you for real?!?!!??!? Dude, seriously, if you are, get some instruction. No degree is going to help if you don't have the experience. I'm reading all your posts, and you, no matter what you think, are definetly in need of an experienced partner. Just go to the gym, ask around, and you'll be able to find someone to help you out. And please don't drill any bolts. just use a couple nuts or hexes.

Oh sure, you see these people everywhere - you just need to get out more.

The Crows eventually feed off em, then you can pull the rope and dump the bones.

The quickest way to your end is to get someone to show you in person safe ways to do the stuff you want to do. Most of the techniques in climbing are show and tell. If you get "How to Rock Climb" by John Long it will say over and over in there that he's explaining x in the book because it wouldn't be complete without it, but that you need to have instruction to really get it. Find someone who knows what they are doing and let them know specifically what you want to learn. To answer your question in a self rescue situation you would use a prusik tied to your harness and a prusik chicken hitched to your foot to jug back up to your anchor. Note: This is a very short answer for a process that took me 6 hours of personal instruction to learn even after I had reviewed the topic the night before. I'm not stupid either and also have a technical degree. Before I took my class I tried to teach myself how to prusik up a rope. I made numerous mistakes. For example I tied my prusiks with the bowline knot. The tail worked its way through and I didn't notice until I was stuck 10 feet in the air having run out of arm strength and no foot prusik (don't ask). Anyway my point is get instruction and tie your prusiks with double fishermans.

Google Toni Kurz. His body hung on the rope for months after he died. Sad but true.

Yes, you are a troll, and a tool. You are so desperate for attention that you create a new account and answer your own questions as Majid. You even throw in a few compliments to boot. Pathetic.

The dead giveaway is the inappropriate pluralization of certain words.

Before I do any repelling down a route. I make sure that my rope is touching the ground. (I dont usually climb higher than 50m's tho) Usually my belayer or another climber will tell me that its safe to repell.

If you are un-sure of the rope touching the ground and you have to repell down. I usually tie the two ends of the rope together at the bottom so I dont fall off. In the event I mis-judge the repell (which has never happened because A. I read my guide book, which usually has the height of the climb and B. I always make sure I have a safe exit route before thinking about climbing) you can use two pursk cords (always keep them tied up on the same biner as my chalk bag) to climb back up the rope.

I have set up a repell on a climb. repelled down half way and then tie'd all my knots and climbed back up for practise.

I suggest you get an instructor to train you in the knots and how to use, then practise under his supervision indoors before doing any "dodgee" repel's.
