Weather and booze. The first time we got caught in bad weather and made the decision to turn around. The second attempt we thought camping would get us an early start. So we drank a lot and the first person woke up at 9:30 am. So much for the alpine start. We were too hungover to worry about it anyway, so we went to the Estes Park Brewery and drank away the pain. The third time was also weather, although I'm not sure if it counts as an attempt, since we never got out of the cars. We set there with the heater on, debating whether it was worth it. One of the girls decided she wouldn't leave the car (it was about 25 F.) Arguments ensued, the mood turned sour, we drove back to Denver and went back to bed.
Oddly enough, I've never had a problem with any other CO 14'er. I've never had to turn back for weather or route problems. Just Long's. I keep thinking I should put the Diamond on my life list, but I can't even make it up the boy scout route, so the D may have to wait awhile.
And yeah, too fat would also fall into the mix, but I can't really say it kept me off Long's. Probably off of a few blonde's, though.

Saturday weddings killed a lot of climbing days for me last summer.

It is approaching a critical mass. The Dan thread is pretty fun, that's where I noticed some of that. Critical Mass for bicyclists pisses me off though. I'll throat stab the next Crital Mass-er I see with a bicycle fork.
