rc.com should hire sallyj to do the gear show blogs - just for entertainment value - think how many pro climbers might spontaneously combust ! (we'll keep the current blogs for the actual information though).

... now this is REALLY getting 'out there' ...

Al Qyeeda legend Atta , was the pilot of the big flying missile that smashed into the North Tower with almost as much world wide publicity as the collapse of Tasmania's Totem Pole ... we now have Mr sidepull , who registered on Septemper 11 2001 , daring to contribute to this thread ... there is an Australian cyber-climbing-legend called Hexy, who many believe has reincarnated in many ways , across the dreary Australian cyber-climbing ethernet ...

... what is the connection ...

Sidepull , the fire at Frog Buttress , bursting into life around the time of the Tote collapse ... you DID know that Henry Barber established Australia's first grade 23 at Frog Buttress , didn't you ... and now HB ( not to be confused with Arapilies hb ) is ... OMG ... thank christ Peter and Casey are safely on their way back to the States ... but Garry and Simon are still missing at Cape Hauy ...

OK , OK so maybe those Californians WERE holograms ... but the fact is this Totem thing was acknowleged at one stage or another , on Chockstone, UKC, SuperT , AND RC as a pretty bloody good .............. you know ...

The good news is that Garry emerged from the ' woods ' unscathed and reported on Chockstone that the TP is still OK !!! YAAAAY !!! ITS OK !!!! THE TOTEMS OK !!!! YAAAAAY !!! (*in best crank yankers voice*)

So the bot line is that we now ALL really appreciate the Tote , and can now not be so sqeamish about getting out there and climbing it !!!

Cheers,

Sallyj

sallyj is indeed hex the troll who escaped from chockstone.

I concur with the T6 given earlier in this thread although he did have me going on chockstone for about 5 minutes only.

A bloody good what? Joke? Prank? A pretty good example of a poor attempt to delude a community into believing something that could easily be verified or disproven?

The fact of the matter is that this thread sucks and it doesn't hold a candle to any of the great practical jokes that I've seen on the intraweb over the last few years.

hey Jay! The tard camp was on Black'n'Tan and Fantasy... so we did spurt climbing all day. Aesthetica, Discombolulated, and some 5.10. Good times. thanks for the room!

oh, and to keep up with the thread topic, a section of endless wall actually collapsed, rolled down the hill, and created a new Class VII rapid. More details will follow.

ouch.... that is an awfully big chunk of Nutall Sandstone to fall with. I hope the climber was OK.
So, is that route harder now that the "key hold" has broken off?

They were OK because there was a tail line up.

And I believe the route has been downgraded to 4th class Tongue

4th class, maybe it will be my new project. I'm currently working on a few 3.14b's but maybe a 4th class proj is what I need to reach the next level.

Now, the Totem hasn't collapsed, the New River Gorge is as solid as ever, but the San Juans ARE in a state of continual collapse - I've managed to regularly get myself onto talus so steep its "fluid" - a very fun place to be hiking. and climbing here makes me appreciate solid rock when I get on it. In fact, some of the mountains out here seem to be huge piles of talus, and I wonder if there is anything but talus all the way down..... and if someone posted that Half Peak fell over, I'd probably believe it.

oh noez! That will really impede my porch view when I get home tomorrow!

There is actually a bit of folklore that says there used to be another tower to the left of castleton that fell down only a couple hundred years ago. You can see where it would have been, but I have found no historical accounts of it, obviously.

[semi-inside joke] No, because the low crux is still the single hardest move in the universe. [/semi-inside joke]

Imagine the slackline people would be setting up if the second tower were still there!

Really, if the second tower only fell a few hundred years ago, there should should still be a pile of pretty big chunks at some spot.

I know the Seneca Gendarme that toppled was found. (which makes me think they should put it back up with a Sikorsky and a bunch of Bondo! And if not, maybe just put up a paper machet replacement.)

Sweet view if you can see Castleton from your front porch!
