zeke_sf wrote: Iz can post to thr3d with "bet" in it? *waits for banzing* After nearly a week of getting booted back to general populace, I have to agree with Jake (well, I actually thought this already but I thought I should be nice to Jake for once). The actual "climbing" parts of this site are far excelled by places like mproject. Of course, there are the odd crags where rc.com provides better beta, but this is a rarity. I really think it is the social aspect of this site that sets rc.com apart. To wit, something like killfile would seem an appropriate tool for us to have although I 100% don't use it. I'm conflicted on automatic deletion of redundant "n00b" posts that has been discussed in related threads. First, sometimes equipment/techniques really do change and should be addressed. Second, how would we decide which post(s) really answered the question with the best possible wording and information for everybody? Perhaps the beginners forum should just be a button on the frontpage and not have posts that shoot out and disturb the holy bejeezus out of the crusties? It seems like an (de)evolving conversation is what this site does best, whether that be discussion on technique, equipment, etiquette, or even conversation threads like the bet. Too much moderation, inconsistently applied may very well kill that strength. Personally, seeing somebody like Dingus who really exemplifies why I like this site (crotchety trad or no) express such a desire to sever with rc.com entirely seems like it should trigger a little evaluation. Of course, we're rock climbers and we will find some iconoclast bitch-fit to whine about no matter what.... *looks up at what he wrote* I'm not reading this. unfortunately, I did.

You wanted a delete button ( here), and we gave it to you! DDT Delete all. If 'user owns their own material' had any meaning whatsoever there would be a delete all button. There isn't and this site doesn't respect user owned data, never has either. Never. its part of the culture here. YOUR culture. You. DMT

Dingus, you own and control your data. We don't claim any ownership or copyright of your creations. You can delete anything and everything you post to this site. This was not always the case. It is now. (OUR culture?) I understand that you want the convenience of a nuke-all-at-once button, which we're not currently giving you. (Do other sites you frequent provide this?) We're trying to preserve/encourage some individual accountability and the associated individual "reputation" (good or bad), which is one of the basic tenets of a working community -- who said what, and when? We would like users to think at least a little bit before they post. If they want to delete their words and actions later, it is still possible. Dingus, if you feel so strongly about leaving and erasing your history here, I can't stand in your way. While you've had nothing good to say about rc.com for some time now, I, like many others, don't want to see you go. Still, I can't stop you, and before you actually attempt to delete your 10,000 posts individually, send me a PM. DDT
