It's one of those days....

Bearing's gone on the rear axle (Drivers side), No press, no SST (Special Service Tool) to do the Job, and no time to do it the other way.

Work sucks today.

Forgot my coffee at home before dropping the truck off.
Forgot my breakfast at the same time.

Shot me (figuratively, not litteraly)

Sucks to be you. Do the bearings wear out faster because of the mud you drive thru? If so, suck it up.

No.

I'm having to do them because the Truck is 18 years old. The breaks on the other hand... the guy I bought the truck off of a little over a year ago either lied about doing the front breaks or never learned how to use the gears in the truck to slow it down.

The front breaks were a pain in the ass to do, not because it was a difficult job, but rather to replace the rotors on a Toyota 4x4 you have to pull the lacking hubs (free wheel hubs), and the front wheel bearings in order to remove the disks, then you have to remove them from the backing plate and reinstall...
The benifit is that I know the front beriongs are good (and easier to replace when I need to do that than the rear bearings (untill I swap out the crappy IFS for a solid front axle.... can't wait for that).
Maybe he took it to the place that did my breaks thee time before last. I only had 20k-30,000 miles on them and they were shot.Mad
Should'a had the rotors turned when they did the brakes.

Turned, not rotated.Crazy

I pulled the free wheel hubs (locking hubs), front bearings, and calipers a couple days before to replace the front rotors and pads. I would have ben fine changing the inner seals and doing the rear breaks myself if the bearings hadn't been shot on the rear axle.

Go read the announcement on the top of the forum boards. There's a thread for it in the Announcements forums.

I am not linking either of them, because I'm too lazy.

Yep, still drivin' around. Headed towards home though... gotta take care of a few trouble sites on the way, which though it will involve climbing, it's not my favorite type of climbing. Pays the bills though.

Nope, your a shift worker now. You are no longer obligated to conform to rules of the 9 to fiver. Your internal clock says have a drink at 8am so you damn well better have a drink at 8am.

That being said...what was your excuse for drinking at 8am prior to this job???

Did we grant you permission to post again?

I took 4 days climbing up north on the escarpment. Some good climbing, didn't get to send my projects up there, but I was satisfied.

Left at ~2:30 yesterday afternoon to for the 4hour ride home. At about 3:00 the car overheated for the first time (not mine, my partner's clunker). At 3:30 after letting it cool down we get about 4km down the road before it over heats again. At about 4:30 the tow truck shows up.

Anyway, after the long ride home (he had to unlock someone's car on the way, it was CAA), transferring everything over to her boyfriend's car and unloading at my place it was about 10pm. In bed by 11pm after dealing with some unpacking and the kitty. Up at 5:30 this morning.

Um, yeah, so I'm tired today.

I'm going to be dreaming of heading back up there soon and getting back on my project. I know Nathan is dreaming of the same thing (his project, though I didn't get a chance to hike down and even see if it was dry).

I'm back.

2 FA's over the weekend, loads of drinking, and one really good stuck in the truck... in the middle of the river. Tones of washout + redeposition + not enough time for the crossing to harden = diging down.
I took it slow, but when the front tire slipped, that was it! the pasenger side of the hood was under water.
Had to hand winch it out backwards Crazy. Then it downpoured and the river rose another foot. Good thing we didn't get across!

The father-in-law is still bad off right now.

Laurie and her sisters just got called by the hospital and told they need to get there ASAP.

She called me on her way to the hospital and said she'd call me as soon as she knew anything. I'm waiting rather anxously right now to see if I have to run up there.

Nerveracked and stressed to the max right now. I really hate these kinds of waiting games.... I'm not good at them and they are not fun.

I spent the weekend with my kids. Took them on a canoe/kayak trip. We did about 8 hours of paddling. Camped overnight on route. They were not too happy that we didn't have pillows or anything to sleep on between us and the hard ground. I told them they would appreciate their beds more after we roughed it. child abuse? Madam Gs was spooky. I did the first pitch (or linked the first 2 together, I forget ho long it's supossed to be). Gear wasn't great for the last stretch before the horizontal you're supossed to make the anchor in. I threw ever tri-cam I had left in that crack happy I was done. I made Nathan do the last pitch.

Don't think I'd bother doing it again. Though it had been a little damp and there were wasps all over the rock too so I might have just been in a sketched out space in mind to start with, so maybe it really isn't that bad.

My condolences for you and your extended family.

Finally made it out west this morning. Four days of straight driving. Chillaxing at a friends' house outside of SF for the day, then heading to the valley Sunday.

The drive was an asskicker, but I made it. I also got some funny looks in rest stops, firing up my stove.

So far, I'm having a blast and I haven't even harnessed up yet. Good to be travelling again.

So what if it's gh3y purple? The bed is working great.

Cheers,
Matt

Creek, Zion, Joe's, City of Rocks, LCC, BCC, AF, Maple... Sandstone, granite, quartzite, slimestone, conglomerate cobbles....

Shit dude, it's ALL right here (or a short drive away)! You could spend a significant portion of your road trip on pretty much any kind of rock, and never leave the state of Utah. You should hit Smith up though on your way here, we don't have much of that kinda stuff here.

And

if you're plannin on being on the road till christmas, well... you should fig'r on gettin on some ice in Provo or Joe's Valley come late november/early December.

You DID pack your ice tools, keywrecked?

Oh I did. And it was amusing to see a guy take 40 minutes on a 5.4 slab.

Took C out to Cathedral on Saturday. This, after our wonderful day up at Camden. Went up a seldom climbed .5 and TRd a 180' sustained .9. There was nobody up there to bug us - Camden.

At Cathedral we got a 4:30AM start but did not leave town until 5:30 due to the AM errands being run. That and a 45 minute detour to her aunt's house to drop off her dog for the day put us at the base right around 8:30. Still, not ideal in my book, but early enough that we were the first on Thin Air. No one came up after us the entire time we were on route - strange for a holiday weekend Saturday.

After the complaints that I recieced from C about the rediculous amount of slab climbing we did a few weeks ago and her saying that it wasn't hard I snickered and knew, just knew, what would be good for her. I know how valuable experience on slab can be; it gives you excellent footwork - well, at the 5.7 and above grade it does, before then it's more of a paddle and run - but after doing Lost In The Sun - a 1100' route no harder than 5.5 - she was like "ok this is easy." So, what does any good mentor/boyfriend/climbing partner do? Get away from the slabs and get vertical.

Now, I know a few of us on here are aware of Thin Air. Jeff's nuts finally dropped on that climb and WMD dropped his sack. For me, it was a second ascent and I was fortunate to lead the entire thing. Now, I know it isn't reachy - but I was blamed for it being reachy. C felt the nerves on the first .6 crux. I went low to better protect it for her. I like the high way better. Anyway, she almost sketched out on the first crux. She cruised p2 and I bootied a webolette and a #4 Metolius at the p2 belay(p3 - but we combined 1 & 2).

On p3 she came to the realization that there was alot of air beneath her feet. The look she gave me when she finally pulled the last bulge wasn't pleasant. We took a few minute break and I shortroped her to the top - well, to the base of Aeriation.

Took a break and watched a TR solist get shut out on a .8. He was mumbling, cursing, and wearing a strange assorted mix of spandex, jean, and wetsuit. I thought nothing of it, but C was full of questions about the lunatic cursing up a climb.

Took a shot on Airation and was shut out at the crux. Rested and tried again, but tanked onto a blue Alien. My foot went between the rope and the wall and I caught a sling with my leg on the way down. You should see the bruise. Long live the Alien!!!

Walked down and enjoyed the copius amount of blueberries next to the road. Had a break at the car and went to do Funhouse. It was humid, I was tired. I slipped 10 feet off of the ground right before clipping the pin. Did the slab skid backwards down the dihedral to a solid 6.0 landing. Even rose the arms to celebrate. Anyway, climbed to the trees with a now bloody on top of the ropeburn and brusing left knee. I was done for the day. C couldn't make it up past the pin and it felt like all the holds were greasy.

Yesterday we went for a hike to a 26M waterfall. The water was nice and cold. I suspect that it rocks in the winter, and the approach isn't too bad either.

Well, that was my weekend, and finally getting C some exposure. Pulling any move when you get that first OH SHIT THIS IS HIGH feeling is rough. We've all been there.

cheers!

Nice weekend Epoch. The thought of too much slab makes me want to cry, so its good you got C on some different terrain.

Nathan got home at 11pm on Friday night, so we got a late start on Saturday morning to head up North for some steep sport climbing. It was a really good weekend with Nathan sending a couple hard lines fairly easily, and me falling all over my climbs. I didn't send....again....but I could already feel the improvment on that steep terrain from last weekend to this one.

Gawd, it is irritating that the project clock is still ticking though.

My abs hurt today.

Gear express. Since I used them like a crack junkie uses his pusher while i was in iraq, they now give me discounts. Not quite pro-deals, but not bad either.
They are pretty good guys.

They're great guys, but they aint's giving me no special deal. Bastages!

Great way to spend a long weekend Brendan.
Your stuck in the mud story brings back memories from the day...haha .I was dating a guy who owned a 'monster truck' spent a weekend when I was 18 at a mudfest. Wild times
Mudfest?

I was going to run with that one, but I won't.

Was Sty there?

No sleeping pads?

You are cruel.

At least now we don't have to worry about you wasting another weekend taking them out camping since they won't ever go again.

Mostly because I do not want to bore the shit out of everyone.
However, my partner and I climbed Madame G and Middle Earth at the gunks today, and put in two more bolts on monday at the new area.

Yeah, my partner got stung by a wasp while he was belaying me on the second pitch. It was fun climbing, but I think once is enough.
There are definitely better routes to do there.

So far, I'm having a blast and I haven't even harnessed up yet. Good to be travelling again.

It looks like you are going pretty light, or did you not have all your stuff in there when you took the pics?

sweet set up there wmd. sure beats the shitty hard ground I slept on last weekend. Although the purple totally reminds me of Prince.
Glad to hear you arrived west. Keep having fun and let us know when you tie in!!!

Yeah the purple sheets are kind of ghey.
Maybe that is why sty wants you to come to utah....
Very likely.

Rested and tried again, but tanked mEATBOMBED onto a blue Alien.

We've all been there.

cheers!
Fixed it for you.

Had a girlfriend. Same thing.

looks like he may have risen from the dead, which can only mean one of two things:

She's gone to visit her mother

or

she's gone

either way, he's got a slight reprieve. he'd better enjoy it while he can.

Had a girlfriend. Same thing.

looks like he may have risen from the dead, which can only mean one of two things:

She's gone to visit her mother

or

she's gone

either way, he's got a slight reprieve. he'd better enjoy it while he can.

neither of those, stymi,
no need for reprieve. I like this one.

Had a girlfriend. Same thing.

looks like he may have risen from the dead, which can only mean one of two things:

She's gone to visit her mother

or

she's gone

either way, he's got a slight reprieve. he'd better enjoy it while he can.

neither of those, stymi,
no need for reprieve. I like this one.
Well.....

I thought you were dead or something like that.
Had a girlfriend. Same thing.

looks like he may have risen from the dead, which can only mean one of two things:

She's gone to visit her mother

or

she's gone

either way, he's got a slight reprieve. he'd better enjoy it while he can.

neither of those, stymi,
no need for reprieve. I like this one.
Maybe the racecar blew up again?

sure did. a couple times, actually. once with me in it.

Oh, that sucks.

is that how you died and became a Zomb_e?

No, I'm not applying

That's right up there with a Full Service Gas station calling their employees "Petroleum Distribution EngineersTechnicians"
You can't call someone and enginerd in Canada unless they are.

BTW, I fixed you spelling.

Really? Good to know. Became the buzzword for anything menial a long time ago in the states. So I guess Canadia isn't all bad.

I would agree, any Tom, Dick or Harry in the United States can call themselves an engineer. Even after my school and being hired on to do engineering, I've still got to get my P.Eng before I'm actually allowed to call myself one (at least in the official and legal sense).

That's how it should be. Irregardless, I'm moving on to using Esquire instead. It sounds more official, and who cares what lawyers think.
