Just wondering how many of the ontario folk climb at Gravity, I just picked up a 3month membership and would like to meet you guys if you're going to be there sometime.

I'll usually be wearing my navy blue Halcyon hoodie with brown Prana shorts Oh and it says fiend on my shoes. I used to work the desk and practically live there but haven't really been at the gym in the last year. Give me a shout if you see me.

Cool, I'll try to get out there more often, I'm hoping that if I get this new job I'll have my evenings back and I'll be able to go out more.

I usually climb with blue shorts and a red shirt. And MY SHOES say ballet gold on them... Okay so it's not as impressive as yours.

I have a memeber ship at Gravity and I'm ussual there twice a week or more. Saturdays and Wednesday and the odd Thrusday. Won't be there next week since I'm doing a road trip but the week after I should be. I have dark hair and glasses and climb in Boreal Zens... The clothing tends to change from time to time.

Gentlemen...

I think we need to all meet one night at the gym and then hit the local pub... Have a rock climbing.com bar night. God know I'm not drinking enough and need to get back in shape.

I'll be in at 4:00 a lot to boulder in peace and quiet but at least 2 days a week I'll be in after 7:00. Thursday is probably the only day I'll be in after 7:00 for sure.

Oh, I'd also like to add that my shorts are actually a greenish-brown, or darkish kahki, or maybe a mossy oakish redbluegreenyyellow. Whatever, just look for the guy with the cute girlfriend

Just to clarify, MY regular nights are tuesdays and thursdays, and so you don't confuse Fiend and I, he's the one being a dirty bird in the Bouldering cave, and I'm the one causing mischeif. Just didn't want you guys to get confused. You're not the only one with a cute girlfriend you know.

....BEER!!!

Who mentioned the magic word?
Too bad I didn't know about last night but I don't really go for gym climbing anyway unless there's an incentive...like beer. The last time I was at Gravity was to co-erse a buddy into a weekend roadtrip.

Downshift:
Talking of roadtrips, where are you heading? It wouldn't be the Red at this time of year would it? I was hoping to snag a partner to head down there myself this coming Thursday evening for a three day end of season blast.

Let me know if any of these gym nights involve such ulterior motives.

I'm just road tripping to Ottawa to see some freinds and then where ever after that. Not going to be climbing all too much I'm going with my girlfriend. But, maybe upon my return we can organize a gym / abuse the liver night in the name of rockclimbing.com. What do you guys think in two weeks or so????

Hey downshift I'll have you know that I've expanded my alcoholic tastes recently, such as gin martinis, gin and cranberry juice, and gin on the rocks. See? I can be flexible too...

As for the climb/abuse the liver night, sounds good, actually that's what we normally do after a climb anyways.

What goes into the price at a climbing gym? Why does it cost so much? Even if you don't rent any gear it's still fairly expensive, it'd be nice if a rockclimbing.com membership could get us discounts at places like gravity and joe rockheads.

Well in the cost of running the gym you have paying your staff, insurance, utilities, and other incidentals. Climbing gym prices really aren't that high comparatively to other pay per use sports.

Considering a day pass is $10 - $15 (CDN), lets compare it to golf or skiing. Golf can range from $30 - $300 (CDN) per game. A day pass of skiing is now minimum $20 - 30 (CDN).

Now I realize the cost of running a golf course or a ski hill is way higher than a climbing gym. But, you are getting the same amount of activity time so that's one way to look at it.

It would be nice if there was some sort of rockclimbing.com members discount but, I really don't feel that I'm getting ripped off from climbing gyms. Anyway it is the same price as a movie.

If you climb at a particular gym quite often then it cost very little with a membership. If you only visit a certain gym every once in a while, the $15 per visit isn't too bad. It costs most people more to see a two hour movie than it does for around five hours of cranking some hard core plastic.

Memberships are for sure the best way to go if you hit the gym alot. When I got mine I figured out how much I would be paying without and there is a really big difference. To add to Kris's point a movie may suck and you may lose 2 hours of you life. Climbing is what you make of it.
