i haven't seen the commercial, but i think that whoever is getting sponsored should get a pat on the back. not that i believe that A&F has any business in the climbing industry, but we all need to get paid, right? otherwise, like most of you, i think this is just another marketing ploy to get wannabes to buy their clothes so that us real climbers will accept them. get a life, posers! aberchrombie and fitch , are you so fuc...you know I would like to shoot you. You are so freaking stupid. Once you get older and buy your own stuff you will learn what is good and what is not. I would sh I dont even know what I would do if there was a climber that was sponsored by a&f, they are a load of cock sh and you need a life. What will they come out with next. A&F Rock Climber 1982. They put anything on a freaking shirt to make there company look like a bunch of dumb fucs. If I could I would burn the store, shirts, shoes, hats and all other fake crap. This kid must be retarded then I would give him a break. :edit:To add to my post from a PM I get Clean up your mouth, Arkansas!!! You are only 16 years old and your mamma lets you get away with that? Nasty boy!! A&F happens to be quite popular around people who are educated. The way you talk, I can see what the problem may be. Be careful, or you may be banned from this website, buddy. Cheers. Jules Uh yea thanks....I am educated. Don't go off judging someone for how they talk. You are all a bunch of preps wearing shirts that cost 50 bucks. When the words, and thoughts come to mind you will understand. You need to be in my shoes, think from how I live everyday. What makes a bad word a bad word? People do....So before you go off judging me and thinking your educated because you wear that crap think again.... its cool that people can get sponsored, but frankly it would suck if climbing became hyper-corporatized. You can get perfectly good clothes from thrift stores and if you are worried about durability for outdoors stuff, the amount you'd save buying used stuff will more than equal out the little extra it would cost to buy from a socially and environmentally respnsible manufacturer.

Wow. I don't even know how to field this one. "Posers"......hmmmm.....just remember fellow climbers....you're showing your true colors. Take a moment and step outside of yourself before you write a response.

If you want to read a really good book on the evils of branding and advertising read Naomi Kleins book No Logo. You really won't want to wear ANYONE's brand after reading it.

massbayclimber: we got to pick our owne topic, something we had an opinion on. that was the first thing, and the only thing that came to my head. so i figured i could look at climbing stuff while at school and still be "doing work" the paper is pretty much just to teach us how to write persuasive essays, because we just got finished reading "team rodant" its all about how "disney devours the world" good book, you should read it. anyways thanks for all the replys guys its really going to help with this thing.

Watched the ad. I really enjoyed it. It was like Zoolander. I wish they had done more "looks" though. The credits were amusing too.

Lauren Lee is hot. I kind of feel sorry for her though having to put up with those fuc*ing corporate posers though. They were like "Whooooooo! We're goin' rok klymin! Look at us! Whooooo!" It was almost as bad as the ad for "Girls Gone Wild". M@

Whatever, A&F is a legitimate brand same as Prana and Patagonia...I don't care if I have organic cotton or triple recycled cardboard for t-shirts, it still has a brand name and it still has a super price. I'd probably buy A&F before Patagonia because it is cheaper! So whatever, climbers don't like it because they think it isn't unique like they are or whatever...you aren't unique, you wear "climbing" brands, like other climbers. Get over your selfrighteous brand bashing. And anyway, that volleyball video, the chicas are muy bueno...wooHOO!!!

Watched the video. I think its perfect for the age and genre they are targeting. Whether or not you like or dislike A&F, you have to give their marketing people major credit!

You bunch of F*ing hypocritical snobs. you talk about A and F being and exclusive snobbish corporate hell hole. Look at yourselves, you think you are special because you climb and thne you cop this holier than thou attitude. F you. Who cares what other people do as long as it doesn't effect anyone else. Anyone who gets down on sharma or lauren lee as sell outs is full of sh*t. you'd sell out in a second too. Its not even really selling out. Hell its a commerical with great climbers who are enthusiasitc about their sport introducing neophytes to something they love. Whats wrong with that? Why don't you let people handle their own business

Well Danl, while I enjoyed your little libertarian rant, I feel I should respond. While advertising is inherently manipulative, in recent years mainstream marketing has taken to co-opting sports like climbing, snowboarding, and anything seen as "extreme". By including climbers like Sharma and Lee, advertisers gain credibility with the climbing community. Most people see advertising as the BS that it is, but at the same time it is incredibly hegemonic. And no, I wouldn't sell out in a second.

This is all toooooo funny. The bottom line here is -- who cares what you wear, but CAN YOU CLIMB? If you want to wear or be sponsored by A&F, and you can climb -- more power to ya!!! JULES

Clothes are clothes. Wear what you want. I think A&F did a good job depicting new climbers getting out and having fun. If you want to climb in their clothes, good for you. If you don't, good for you. Just climb and have fun, but please do wear some form of clothing... The term 'butt shot' does not need redefining, trust me...

i think its cool they want to pay attention to us climbers but just because they sell clothes for climbing or stuff like that i still won't buy things from there they cost too much and i don't want to look like everyone else so i'll stay with my comfy cheap clothes

Obviously, they aren't trying to get climbers to buy the stuff. If they were, they wouldn't show people climbing a 5.8 on the "Panty Wall". Whether I like their clothes or not doesn't matter, I do think it is cool that they show people trying new stuff. I don't know much about Kiteboarding or mountainboarding so I watched the vids on them. Kind of lame but informative just the same. It's not like they were flashing A&F logos constantly and saying "climbing is so much better in my A&F muscle shirt" Hell it was as much of an ad for Land Rover, 5Ten, and Red Rocks national preserve as it was for A&F. Personally, I like vids on web sites and I wish more climbing companies would put them up . . . then you wouldn't be watching 5.8's on the panty wall. I laugh pretty damn hard at people who are clad head to toe in Prana, pataguchi, the north Face, etc. everyday becuase you can just tell that they are very concerned about letting everyone know that they are a climber/extremedude just like I laugh at all you people that are dissing A&F and people who wear it just because they put a little climbing segment on their website.

Okay im not trying to defend A&F but as far as outdoors goes they used to be an outfiter back in the day. They outfitted Teddy Rooselvet on one of his biggest hunting exspenditions and although it's a big leap from that to climbing it used to be that it wasant all about the clothes. John

I think it is stupid for anyone, especially climbers, to put any emphasis on fashion at all. Who gives a s--- about what you where as long as you are a good person and don't think that you are better than somebody. I don't wear Abercrombie and Fitch but I don't dislike people for wearing it. As people we should know better than to judge somebody by what they wear. *Scotia*
