My one time at the Gunks these boulderers were stink eyeing me for having a trad rack. I thought it was funny cuz more than likely I'm much better at bouldering than them.

By the sounds of this thread, the Gunks must be a really crappy place to climb.

Either that, or New Yorkers are a bunch of whiny bitches.

Or both.

Yosemite: Feeling inadequate about your rack size compares to everyone else, especially the Germans. (The Germans seems to carry like 4 racks for everything).

The cool thing is, if you get on anything harder than 5.9, you can avoid all the whiny New Yorkers.

nah its weird man, all trad climbers are really cool to each other willing to help lend a hand, pair up so u can make a 2 rope rapell at the top, been going there alot the past couple years and everyone with a back pack on(climbing gear inside) or a harness on, are friendly as hell to each other....

but the boulderers alll give u a stink eye..it remind me when snow boarding first hit the winter scene... almost as if they (boulderers) are skiiers and everyone one who actually climbs are the snowboaders...

Odd - I've never had a problem with a boulderer while walking with my rack at the Gunks.

Maybe you just come off like an ass?

I agree, the people at the Gunks for the most part are always friendly, it's a really pleasant setting. I have not really gotten any negative vibes from boulderers other than sometimes having to walk through a pile of mats. Perhaps they just are a little envious of those who climb the great rock up above.

Hammond Pond, MA: "This shit is sharp and chossy."

Pirate's Cove, CA: "This shit is sandy and chossy."

Now I feel doubly dirty for posting about two crummy urban bouldering locations...

Oak Creek Overlook - "TAKE!!!!! TAKETAKETAKE!!!! FUCKING TARANTULA ON THE HOLD!!"

I've never seen a tarantula on a hold there; they typically prefer to stick to the ground.

Bats yelling at you from inside cracks and/or popping out at you from a crack unexpectedly is another story...
****************************************

Donner Summit, CA: "The locals are such pricks...is that an Arctic breeze I just felt?"

Climber exchanges as can be heard everywhere in the Tahoe region: "Hi, how's it going. Let me guess, you must be from the Bay area..."

Tahquitz: "Where is the 5.easy section on this pitch?" "You're on it."
