The cost will be a lot more and we had planned on paying for his first year. He won't be able to come home at all and I don't know how focused he would be on school with all those hills around to ride.
We all know what its like to want to follow your dream and move closer to a location that is better to live your passion. But is 18 too young to do that. And on the parents pocketbook?
Why do so many parents feel they have to pay for their kids education. I got some money from RESP (registered education savings plan for the non Canadians) and paid for the rest of university myself.

If you do insist on paying for most of university you could try this plan that I guy I worked with did for his kids: He'd pay 100% of school after their first year, which the kids had to pay for, but only if the kids passed all their courses and did okay in them.
Sounds reasonable but we are not sure if we were paying the whole shot anyway, just the first year. I mean if it was a matter of him not being able to fund the rest of the years and not be able to do of course we would find a way to keep him in it. but I would have him pay it back.
One year is more than reasonable.

Is he going to trade school? Electrician?

I electively dropped out of college in my third year - before they kicked me out - because all I was doing was riding my skateboard and smoking copious amounts of dope. I worked as a commercial electrician for a year busting my fucking ass. It then dawned on me that this manual labor things is a lot of fucking work so I went back to school and tried the whole going to class thing. Finished up with straight A's. Working as an electrician will be good for him.
heh.. you think working as an electrician is hard?

No wonder you keep climbing teh easy rootz.

Yes, I think working as an electrician is a lot harder than sitting in a class, getting a degree, and then getting paid a shit-ton of money to sit in a leather high-back chair in an air-conditioned office. If you think otherwise, you're doing it rong.
being an electrician is fucking easy. unroll some wire. drill a few holez. You must ahve been the dumb kid who all they would let do is pull wire.

You're obviously a fucking moron, so I'll forgive you for having to explain this. On a construction site it's the dumb ones that have to do more manual labor. I can see now why you're giving me a hard time for not working as hard as you do. Perhaps with the exception of a bosses kid or the retarded guy the moved the broom, there are no free passes on a job site. Well, maybe in Canada, but down here if you're too dumb to do your job you dig a ditch or use a jackhammer. If you're too dumb for that they kick your ass off the site.

You also obviously don't know shit about commercial electrical work. There can be hundreds of yards of ditches for conduits, holes for junction boxes, tearing up foundation, etc. There's also calculating loads and distributions, and an ever-evolving litany of standards that you get inspected to. No, it's not as manual intensive as the troglodyte on the ground floor moving concrete, nor is it as intellectually intensive as developing an artificial heart, but it draws from both sides of the fence. You sounds just like all the other douchebags on the site bitching at us because we weren't knee deep in shit getting paid a fraction of what we made. Don't blame me because you had/have a shitty job.
Ewe should take a look in the mirror.

And please try and keep up.

I'm actually one of the relatively healthy ones, believe it or not.

No, I don't want a cookie.

pffff.. you don't think i've worked in college and high school settings with sick people, young and old. using equipment used by dozens of people per day. Tending to folks who are sweating, bleeding and/or puking.

medical professionals way more exposed than education. Medical folks tend to be smarter in the ways of prevention.

wash hands, wash hands, wash hands. Eat correctly, sleep right.

temperature changes?? Last year i rode my bike and climbed in weather varying from 90F down to 35F. failllllll

i've made it almost 30 years with only ear infections other than minor head colds. missed less than 5 days of work/school since graduating high school.

this post means you will now get MRSA.

If I were on my parents dime, I would totally have followed my dream and gone out west for school.

Instead, I stayed relatively local and am still massively in debt.

Hm. Fail?

Pfft! Girl! I'm working on the third degree. The first one was paid for. Public school. The second and this one... private school. THAT'S massive debt. Ask Snupe about massive debt. I'll pay it all off about the time they put me in the grave.

So, Kel, could we say that you're suffering from severe 3rd degree burns? ZING!

Speaking of debt, I got off pretty easy with the debt at my private institution. This is because often majors that don't make a lot of money entice you in with stipends and such.

I think that if you took my student debt in proportion to the jack shit that I'm makig teaching right now, however, I'd me more in the hole than snupe. Well, maybe not.

And what is this third degree in, Kelly?

small business management.
!st rule of small business..

Don't spend money you don't have and will never recover.
So owning a house is pretty bad business I guess.

I was obviously a fucking dumbass having to hang out on the floor, helping the electricians with debug and reprogramming. I also got bitched at a lot because the managers got to be managers in the plant by bitching at the most people and yelling the loudest.

nope, even with the connections my dad had for him he didn't want to go that route. He wants to take mechanical engineering, college level.
So a technician. You really shouldn't call it engineering, you can only get an engineering degree through a 4 year university program.

You know, I've had it and it didn't really do anything to me other than force me into a private room away from the other patients.

I was treated, but I often wonder if I passed anything along to Nathan with the time he spent with me in the hospital.

So a technician. You really shouldn't call it engineering, you can only get an engineering degree through a 4 year university program.
The program is calling mechanical engineering, but yeah technician.

oh yeah you are one of them. As GG pointed out it won't be an engineering degree just a technician. And he is the grease monkey type. But seriously he wants to end up doing research and design for race face. He already emailed the GM of race face asking for a job. lol so I guess he is arrogant too.
That would be his dream job. Designing bike components and getting to test them out. It would be like a climber having the job of designing cams and testing them by climbing all day and getting paid.

worst immune system evar....

Let's break this down, shall we?

-30hrs /week in a elementary school, surrounded by 18 seven year-old walking petri dishes....check

-Outdoor temps that are up/down/up/down/up/down...check

-Surrounded by sick interns when not surrounded by sick children...check

-interactions with students knowingly exposed to the swine flu (don't ask)...check

-Repeat all of the above for three months....check

-Average of 4-5 hrs sleep per night and a lot of stress...check.

MRSA isn' thaaaaat bad.

Don't blame me because you had/have a shitty job.

nerve touched?

Meh, just a little drunk.

Stopping bouldering in the basement wouldn't be that big a deal, but I think that drytooling might be worse than bouldering for yer elbows.

This is possibly kerrect. Chossy boulders in there a lot, right? Drytooling can get you into some crazy positions, however when bouldering you can push too much.

I was treated, but I often wonder if I passed anything along to Nathan with the time he spent with me in the hospital.

MRSA often lives benignly on people's skin, especially if they have been hospitalized. Chances are, a) you still have it, and b) sharing is caring.

Long distance intercourse FTW?

An early 16th century Spanish conquistador wrote reports of an Indian tribe he encountered in the Caribbean in which the men had penises that were up to 12 feet long. They would keep them wrapped around their waists, and then whip them out (literally), to have sex with women from across the village square or whatever.

Otherwise known as chorizo!

He would still have to go to school to be an electrician here. He cooks at a pub part time and I am sure that is enough for him to know he needs to go to school and not end up doing that for the rest of his life

somebody's got to cook mah dinner.

oh yeah you are onetwo of them.

I did get called pompass a lot.

No. It seems her hobby is sext toys though. There has been like 5 of those toy parties between two of the women in the office.

No. The 1st one could fit in my harness, the other one might push the weight limits of the swing.

I worked with one of those in college. She and her husband went to swingers parties and were into S&M, and she was not at all shy about talking about it. Unfortunately, the thought of her having sex made me gag.

I ate one anyway 'cause it was mostly, pretty much cooked, but I'm recooking my second one.

I love my foreman grill, but it should really only be used to cook low-quality meats -- frozen chicken, frozen burgers, hot dogs, shit like that.

I think a nerve has been hit.

I think you've been GUd.

Good for him. Is he naturally cocky (arrogant, pompous)? Or does he come from the grease monkey side of ME?

IE = pretty boy, hipster
EE = unwashed
CE = Construction boy
AggE = farmer
oh yeah you are onetwo of them.

I hate to see a bunch of the other females in here ganging up on bailbiner and telling her to "suck it up princess," and "girl, life is pain, when I was your age I got kicked in the face for Christmas."

I've got to say, though, that the trees, vegetation, and humidity out east that biner is lamenting are fricking lame. Give me dry air, sparse population, and geology stripped naked of greenery any day.

Hmm. Does that actually work, or are you just trying to get me to put some vaseline up my nose?

it's also pretty handy for getting stubborn scabs to fall off, but tends to make the scars bigger.
Chicks dig scars?
Precisely.
Except mine seem to be all concentrated on my lower right leg. Not exactly the most noted area.
I want the cool face knife fight scar that goes vertically through the eyebrow and down to the cheekbone but missed the eyeball.
I almost have that cool scar, except it stops at the eyebrow not extending to the cheek.

It also tends to hide behind bangs most of the time too.

The big scar on my calf is pretty cool though.

You know, I've had it and it didn't really do anything to me other than force me into a private room away from the other patients.

I was treated, but I often wonder if I passed anything along to Nathan with the time he spent with me in the hospital.

MRSA often lives benignly on people's skin, especially if they have been hospitalized. Chances are, a) you still have it, and b) sharing is caring.
I most certainly got rid of it at least briefly. They did swabs and wouldn't let me into the physio area before I was clear.

Not saying that status hasn't changed though.

I think it's funny how donnies often try to join in on the shit talking here, and then get butthurtz when they get shit talked on them.

When I was (less of) a Donny, I got plenty of shit talked on me. but most of it stopped, except for the shit from Missus Zeke. Turns out she just hated me.
The one thing I've learned form these threads is to never go on vacation. Either cali-donnys will invade or threads will get shut down.

An unexpected outcome of the Great Locking was that the two threads seem to have somehow recombinated.

Yes, much like at the end of the Dark Crystal.

The attempt at the BET v.2.0 seems to have sunk to just talking about Jtree plans. It is just a shell of its former glory.

Unfortunately a shard or two may have fallen off tho.

OK, you're actually quite a good climber. Sorry, that's the funniest thing I could come up with on short notice.

I have gone over this... many times, at least once with ewe. I suck at climbing. I just suck less than ewe and most of the rest of these posers.

Ha! The venison should lower the housing costs. Keep the dead deer out on the porch and when you get hungry carve off a chunk and microwave it.

not to mention property values.

Would be fine if it were TX.... but *sigh* CO is not like TX.

A rotting animal hanging in front of your house is sure to drive down the neighborhood's property value.

Not being an annoying twat is one of the req's too.

Now, I agree that threads will get shut down when out climbing, and coming home to find 30+ pages to GU is a pain in teh azz, but I iz not yore donny!Mad

It's still there...and it's not bad, but I can imagine it potentially down the line getting not that fun.

You only have to do it for a couple months. MOnths in which you will be able to ski, climb and drink your ass off with other early 20somethings. You can ride it out until May, then hit the road for some more fun. DOn't talk about how homesick you are or how lame telluride is or you won't make any cool friends.

I chopped up a pork loin into steaks this afternoon and cooked them in the George Forman Grill. Problem is that I never really cook meet and I think I undercooked the entire lot.

I ate one anyway 'cause it was mostly, pretty much cooked, but I'm recooking my second one.

I love my foreman grill, but it should really only be used to cook low-quality meats -- frozen chicken, frozen burgers, hot dogs, shit like that.

WHat about one that starts 16 months after you quit your old one?

Uh oh, what happened to the hookup?

We met him. He was more interested in drugs and booze than reality.

Often the case in ski townes.

Wekest relocation attempt eva!

It doesn't even qualify as a vacation at this point.

It does kind of sound like a bad three day weekend.

If I were on my parents dime, I would totally have followed my dream and gone out west for school.

Instead, I stayed relatively local and am still massively in debt.

Hm. Fail?

Pfft! Girl! I'm working on the third degree. The first one was paid for. Public school. The second and this one... private school. THAT'S massive debt. Ask Snupe about massive debt. I'll pay it all off about the time they put me in the grave.

Oh yeah. And I got one more degree to go before I'm finished. Grad school aint cheap either.

4 degrees? damnz.

hah! This is an astute observation. As amusing as I found the curt/renob diatribes, you really need to up yore game in here, and establish some sort of GU ethic. You are rapping into this trad thread, and we don't like it. It should be obvious to all by now that you are incapable of changing your olde ways, so why not leave gracefully. you make me sick.

Perhaps we can make a specific thread to contain such assholery, that way it won't affect normal discussions around here and people can decide to enter the thread and deal with it if they choose - at which point they shouldn't bitch about it if they find assholery in such a thread.

OK, you're actually quite a good climber. Sorry, that's the funniest thing I could come up with on short notice.

I have gone over this... many times, at least once with ewe. I suck at climbing. I just suck less than ewe and most of the rest of these posers.

You are rapping into this trad thread, and we don't like it. It should be obvious to all by now that you are incapable of changing your olde ways, so why not leave gracefully. you make me sick.

This is correct. Except that life is hardly worth living without a secretary.

If you so choose to spend the next day sulking in a lawn chair holding your head in your hands and contemplating vomiting, then yes... it is phenomenal for drinking.

for the record, I was out of that lawn chair by noon.

It's been almost 4 months since I've had a hair cut so it's getting a little long.

I'm growing my hairz to give to bald ppl... so its really long right now...

I do like the not spending monies on haircuts... but brushing it sux

Teh gf just did that, had to get over 10 inches and kutz 11. It creates a drastic change in hairstylez. She waited an extra couple months before giving hers the chop till it drove her crazy. It was a nice distraction while it lasted - the hair driving her crazy instead of me.

i did this in college when i cut off my long hair. gave it to cancer kids.

I plan to give mine to some Urban Achievers.

being an electrician is fucking easy. unroll some wire. drill a few holez.

Don't blame me because you had/have a shitty job.

nerve touched?

That wasn't a nerve, that was a live 220 circuit!!! Sweet fuck, I quitz. Now where is my leather chair and my secretary???

This is korect, spambots don't have nerves, we have circuits and wirez. Beep beep bloop.

I have my meeting today with my boss about what I'll be doing and what I'll be getting paid. I'm lobbying for a full-time,salaried supervisor position. Werst case scenario sees me getting 9.50 an hour wiping snot off of kids noses.

Maybe you should start trying a little harder.

I believe I was busy making breakfast when the previous page was established.

I believe I'm still in bed and it's almost lunch your time.

After waking up to two dogs piled on me, I have moved to the couch, but still firmly established in the pajamas.

Seems yore travelz have weakened yore GU ability, yore crawling through this.

My GU is solid but slow. I have just gotten back to using a real computador instead of the Yup, and I seem to be fully scheduled by the loyerette for social engagements. I needed to block off this hole morning to do this shit!

I just about sold an old harness to a chick in our office. She wants to buy a sex swing. we found some youtube videos of sex swings and realized a climbing harness wasn't going to fit the bill as nicely.

I almost had a sale.

That is awesome. Is she teh hawt?

No. It seems her hobby is sext toys though. There has been like 5 of those toy parties between two of the women in the office.

is the other woman hawt?

No. The 1st one could fit in my harness, the other one might push the weight limits of the swing.

I worked with one of those in college. She and her husband went to swingers parties and were into S&M, and she was not at all shy about talking about it. Unfortunately, the thought of her having sex made me gag.
What's with all the buzzing.

GTFO!

Have I mentioned lately that I hate you?

You know, I'm starting to think Marco doesn't like you snupe!

It almost looks like he went to Kel's Better Living Through Klown Hatred class.

Yes, I'm really starting to think that Kel not liking me might actually be real and not the BET joke that I thought it was?
