Please don't trash the English language. Its my favorite means of communication and very close to home. I know people speak English in North Carolina because I have been there. If North Carolinians treat their language like garbage, how can they expect anyone to believe they really care about their mountains?

Cry Baby. Its probably and more likely one of your local guide services and there 30 clients. Take it up with them. Climbers I know respect the environment and do not throw trash around. Maybe you can do something more proactive about it. PICKZ IT UP. Organize a trail day. Call the guide services and get them to watch the bastard rookies they bring to the mountain. QUIT YOUR BRITCHEN HERE. an learnz how to reads and rights. YOu middle school drop out.

Hmmm, I doubt it is "guild services" that would be doing this as everyone that I have seen, or been in contact with is very careful to pick up trash and educate clients. I always bring extra bag (at Pilot and other areas) and pickup what I see. I have seen some bad behavior in this regard with some of the school groups and BoyScouts (even worse I think). But, I have also seen bigger groups picking up trash (even stuff not their own) at Pilot. A little subtle persuasion, or even better, leading by example, goes a long way in my opinion. Pilot is a very high traffic area (from climbers and non-climbers, and as such is going to have trash issues. An anonymous rant does nothing, in my opinion. Dealing in a respectful way with the persons you disagree with may go much further. If they read your rant, they are probably going to assume you are talking about someone else...

Dude, who would not agree in the principal of the thing? People should not trash anything anywhere, not just your mountain. The people who do trash the place don't give a crap about trashing places and won't respond to an internet forum or even acknowledge that they trash places wherever they go. BTW, I've seen people throw cans and burning cigarette butts out of car windows within site of Lake Tahoe on a beautiful mountain road. People are scum and all over I'm sorry that your crag gets polluted. Good luck. Dave

The problems we have at our local crags are generally caused by non climbers, fishermen, hikers, bouldering spectators, etc. However having out of towners up your ass especially at the rap chains, is really freaking annoying. I started bring X-Lax for my partners.

I feel genuinely ashamed to know that you and I live and climb in the same state. Get over bitching at others and pack their trash out, lead by example not by empty threats and pointless anger. get over yourself.

'rsmillbern' wrote: "An anonymous rant does nothing, in my opinion." Permit me to disagree: this one was great fun! And despite being removed by the o.p. (suggesting it was not a comically misspelled troll), kept going a while on its own merits. Did anyone notice the posting locations? People in Idaho are reading this? At Pilot there have been retirees et alia who make a project of delittering the trails. I have had a minor subhobby of mentally noting the most remote and oldest trash along the way. The funniest object imo noticed so far was not a geologically deposited seashell released from what was a former sand seabed: it was a large glue-on fingernail. Had they been applied to function like crampons? There is, and will be, trash left by those who are trash. But surely, not any of "us"? ll

Gasp! Surely not! It's the day hikers who toss their athletic tape, mass gangs of camp children who drop their cigarette butts and tourists who so callously discard their Clifbar wrappers. Climbers never litter.

'Toproper87' is one of my favorite climbers at Pilot Mtn., as of today, and not because he belayed me. He is a good climber, very helpful and generous to others, and very safety-conscious with all aspects of climbing. There were two women hiking by, and he even offered his climbing shoes to make sure they both tried the climb he had rigged. He explained his concerns that led to that post, and it was a lot worse than just trash. It was a busload of wuffos generally out of control all over place, creating a serious hazard to climbers. There isn't an official way for him to express his distress, so he posted among what could be expected to be friends. He also removed the post: reposting it as a reply does not have to happen for a reply, and imo offends net ethics as much as netiquette. If you are ever at Pilot, and recognize Charles from his posted photo, as I did today, do make a point of saying hello. You won't find anybody there more worth at least getting acquainted with. LL

There's little doubt that he's a good climber. Five days a week and he sure as hell isn't at school the other two. Good for him for having a proficient e-backer such as yourself and concern for 'his ' mountain.

LL RC.com has its own culture, including the way in which new posters are greeted. There really is far less hate than most first time posters think they get. It is, for the most part, just people who think they are funny trying to be funny. If you post here for a while, and I hope you do, you will learn why capturing posts in replies is necessary. Complain if you want, but all that will happen is more posts of people trying to be funny.

in the long run it is probably better that he got on here and did his rant to vent. otherwise he might have gone balistic in person on the offenders. We all know that a polite discussion with someone can accomplish more than a pissed off ass chewing from someone no matter how true the message is |
