Seems like you have no idea what you're talking about. Of course, that means you have an opinion on this website.

I complained about those Subaru ads that sent mud and bottles of detergent flying around my screen. A number of people said they'd be logging on much less as a direct result of those ads. It's not much use to keep the lights on if you drive everyone off. In that case, management worked pretty quickly to limit the number of times per day that those ads would run, and let us know when the campaign would end.

The UFC ads don't bother me, but I don't feel the OP should censor his opinion about them.

I wonder if a day will come when the internet is no longer profitable by the means of ads. I can imagine that being in he near future without some sort of legal interference.

looks like i am saying that fighting adds are bad for calm space
and that i have nothing against the sport fighting set

the reason that fighting is not so good for climbing is that some people go off onto mountains in a sort of peace questing thing, where the climbing is secondary to putting a physical barrier between self and the likelihood of violence to begin with .. .. ..

the second reason that fighting is not good is that it leads to noncooperation and antagonism between people ..

uhhh * reluctantly sets aside trocar *
of course it is true that i am no brain surgeon, as i said before i am a soda jerk and a nightjanitor, so my views should be treated with a good deal of skepticism and / or condescension ...

u could check with oregon local C.O.B.R.A. or so lag med center severe head trauma team to see if my ideas are valid or crackpot

like many people you assume that the competition is based around hate and antagonism. Just the same, non climbers assume anyone out rock climbing is under dire peril and immediate danger.

as far as a calm space and peaceful climbing experience, its not like you are opening up this website in between routes and are put off by the ads. when you watch TV and the new micheal bay movie is being advertised, do your undies need changing then as well? Just curious.

Mine need changing often.

Free speech in a forum like this applies to the publisher, not to people who happen to post here. The OP might have a valid opinion and you might agree or disagree, but that's not a matter of rights- nobody has any right to say anything here, beyond that which is extended to them by the publishers or their designates.

I'm sure feedback like this is important to whomever makes the decisions about ad content and all, but I also expect that paying the bills is important too- and membership here is what, free? Respectfully, complaining about the ads that deliver you a forum of this scope and quality (for free!) might, in some quarters, be viewed as entitled, ungrateful whining. Especially when blocking ad content (or simply ignoring it, or better yet, clicking through from time to time, for which the advertiser usually pays the site- think of it as spending their money!) is so easy.

For free? We don't use it for free. NameMedia acquired this site for it's own profit yet the site itself is not profitable with out the contributions and developments of various members and of previous owners.

Admittedly, I don't know any architects. I just assumed there was some sort of guiding force that let them put things into context so that we didn't end up with two bedroom houses designed to have eighteen bathrooms.

I deal with architects at work all the time; they seem to know the basics but none of the intricacies of actually building something, anything. To me, level of education says nothing of a person’s intelligence; it just tells me how willing they are to put up with the BS that is our current educational system.

Sorry getting a little off topic here. The ads don’t bother me that much, paying out of my pocket to contribute to any web site would.

Edit to add:My favorite line to date is “I drew it so it must be possible” to which my response was “sure, but you won’t like how much it will cost”

Yeah, I entirely get how free speech works here, but thanks..... What it really means is we have a right to get away with what we can here on this free site of member generated content. Or is it best we not be mewling little brats about how that content is moderated? I don't really know or care anymore, it's all in fun.

I REALLY don't care to see ad video of Mucinex snot characters trying to fight my immune system when I visit this site. Two thumbs down.

And how is that not considered child content? May as well just start running ads for the Teletubbies. If this site needs $ that bad...let it die. There is no pride up my nose.

As long as the political left can't advertise/run ads for their own bleeders I could care less what is advertised here. Well, ok. Maybe they're are better than a terrorist sponsor.Shocked

Sorry to rekindle a dead thread but I've kinda changed my mind about ads on this site because they are now showing full length commercials with sound. I'm fine with visuals that I can simply ignore but when a commercial with sound starts playing it's hard to ignore and just really annoying, especially when at work Wink I realize not being able to ignore it is the point but at some point it goes to far.

Which ads? I'm not seeing this... probably because of geo-targeting excluding South Africa.

Thanks.

Seems to have stopped for now but it was in the top right frame in the photos section below "select a category "

This happened to me a couple days ago, and it just happened again when I loaded rc.com a couple minutes ago. The ad was for Clearasil Ultra, and it was in the ad block right under the My Stuff box. I tried reloading several times both the other day and today, and haven't had a repeat in a single day yet. Ad with default audio is definitely annoying.
